    I've had my hands on the LS60d for a bit as well and completely agree with you. One of the best 60w lights I've ever used! If you are already in the Aputure ecosystem it's pretty much a no brainer.

    One thing that I’ve noticed is that the boost from pushing LED lights through lenses pretty much gets canceled once the light is bounced or diffused.
    A 120d with a fresnel can get the same output as a 300d with just a reflector. But when you bounce it, the 300d easily gets more intensity.
    I think that’s because you’re only concentrating the light, not actually increasing it. When you soften back up, the light spreads out thinner, and you lose that intensity.
    So even thought this might outperform more powerful lights, I would caution not to expect that to hold true when using bounce or diffusion. At least, not without further testing.

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  2 года назад +4

      Hey hey again Mattie!
      I see what you're saying and its true about how the light thins out after a bounce and or going through various diffusion materials.
      For bouncing the light I think it really depends on the setup of the bounce and the size of the bounce area you're after. If I were to bounce an entire wall or book light, a 300d would make more sense so I can blast the entire wall for a large source. With a fresnel I would be aiming to hit a 4x4 or maybe even an 8x8 to bring a specific cut of soft light into the scene. So for bouncing it is technically limited if you are trying to light up an entire rooms ambience.
      Diffusion I feel is actually going to be the same if you took the 60d and 120d (bare), set them up so that they are hitting the diffusion material at the same intensity and around the same surface area, in theory the light coming from the other side should be nearly the same. The 120d would just need some flagging so that it doesn't introduce more light into the scene beyond the diffusion.
      I shoulda added the bounce discussion in the video, but didn't think about it over the use of shooting through diffusion material with the same overall intensity of a higher power led. This would be a fun video for me to make, bounce vs diffusion with flood or spot lights!

    Have the 60X bi-color version of this. Great lights. Also have their spotlight mini zoom. A great addition, and it's much more compact than typical spots.
    One of the best features of this and all Aputure / Amaran lights is the app. Perhaps the only truly good and robust light control app on the market.

      Most definitely, I didn't think I would like this light as much as I do. I need to reconsider my ideal lighting kit now that I know I can use something like this at half the power consumption, non-spill led. I'm almost always trying to flag away spills in an interior scene, now this might just make it super easy for me to not have to bring in so much gear into the acting area.

    would you recommend the aputure 60d with a lantern softbox or the GVM bi-colour 100w lighting kit (also has a lantern softbox)? I will be using the set up as an upgrade to my ring light for self tape auditions. The noise output is a bit relevant but I am mostly after soft flattering lighting :)
    Thank you for your videos!!

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  4 месяца назад

      I would suggest checking out either an Amaran 60d or 100d instead if you are planning to use a Lantern. The LS60d is indeed powerful but its done through focus of the light. For most modifiers you want the light to spread out right away. So thus my suggestion for your needs. Hope this helps!
      I'm not too big of a fan of GVM. While their products work just fine. The eco system is not as streamlined as Amaran/Aputure.

    Excellent video! Do you think the Glow EZ Lock Collapsible Silver Beauty Dish looks better than the original Aputure 35 inch Dome? Thank you!

      @TLDR_filmmaker  2 года назад

      Hey hey Sandy!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
      This will depend on the light you are using. If you are using a spot COB LED like this, the EZ-glow will produce better results. The Aputure Dome are more for non-spot COB LED's.
      In theory though, I feel the Glow EZ will do just a little better with making the diffusion surface nice and even, but not enough for you to see a major difference when putting the results side by side. One thing to add is the Aputure has a gel holder that can help for people wanting to play with some color.

    Getting closer to perfection for me! Once they create a bicolor and maybe make it slightly lighter, my wallet will lose some weight. Great video by the way!

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  2 года назад

      Hey hey again Jason!
      They do have a bi-color version of this light, I was hoping to receive that one as well to see what the power and slight color difference was. Usually the Aputure Bi-Colors are about 1/3 to 2/3 stop lower in output than their pure daylight counterparts.
      I'm not sure they can make this LED lighter based on its sturdy and weather resistant design. But if those are not any concern for you, there is the Amaran 60x, 100x, and 200x that can be paired with a non-hyper reflector to achieve a similar circle for diffusion curtains. Or of course just using a softbox to keep it simple.

  • @broaf
    @broaf 2 года назад

    I am wondering if you use this light with the mentioned softbox together with the parallel reflector inside, will you have additional light loss beside the diffuser clothes or not? also, do you get better result in spot or flood mode (expecting that parallel reflector also can catch up the most light in 15 degree spot)

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  2 года назад +1

      Hey hey Nyúl!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
      Yes, you will technically lose some light as it is going to be spread out more inside the box so that it illuminates more of the surface of the diffusion. It shouldn't be too much light loss because the reflector dish is so close to the LED, you'll want to use the Spot setting to concentrate the light at the reflector. If the reflector wasn't there you would want to use flood mode to get the most surface area on the diffusion. So in theory the amount of light loss may not be as much as one thinks as the spot beam hitting the reflector may be enough to balance out the light lose from the light beam traveling an extra bounce before it hits the diffusion. I'm still in the processes of getting this specific softbox to round out my LS60d kit. I ended up purchasing a total of three of these lights so trying to determine which softboxes sizes I'd need. Hope some of this explanation helps!
      Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

      @@TLDR_filmmaker thanks for the answer. I was doing the same math here, though I still dont have neither the light nor the softbox :) I am thinking between 65cm (25") and 85cm (33") softboxes, will try them out and see if the bigger fits good enough. I think (I hope) the 60d will fit to my three pieces of Godox S30s as main light :) I had a 60 bare COB, but I do not like it as much as the fresnel type of lights.

    Sorry my english is not perfect but I go a question. How far away is the LS60d away from the 200d when it comes to light output? Because I am thinking about these two systems.

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  6 месяцев назад

      Hallo!
      Es hängt davon ab, wie Sie Ihre Lichter nutzen möchten. Der LS60d ist hell, weil er fokussiert ist. Die 200d ist unfokussiert und viel heller als die LS60D. Bei Fokussierung könnte die 200d noch heller werden.
      Wenn Sie Ihr erstes Beleuchtungssystem kaufen, würde ich Ihnen empfehlen, das 200d zu kaufen. Der Grund dafür ist, dass Sie das Licht am besten an Ihre Aufnahmesituation anpassen können. Der LS60 ist bereits modifiziert. Abhängig von Ihrer Drehsituation ist es möglicherweise nicht möglich, dass es Ihren Anforderungen entspricht.
      Ich hoffe, das macht Sinn und hilft Ihnen bei Ihrer Entscheidung. Viel Glück!
      ----------
      It depends on how you want to use the light because the LS60d focuses the light for more output while the 200D is very bright without needing to be focused. The 200D will have even more output when focused.
      If you are looking for your first light system. I would suggest the 200D or X as that gives you the most options to work with to modify the light. The LS60 is already modified and you may not want it to be for certain lighting setups.
      I hope this makes sense.

    Hi how does this compare with the P60C? In terms of output at the same daylight K at roughly the same beam angle. And any other thoughts choosing between them as versatile lights for a long time (without accounting any need for the mini spotlight accessory). Thanks!

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  2 года назад +1

      Hey hey 108!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
      You can compare my output tests from every light I've reviewed on this channel at my website tldrfilmmaker.com.
      As for which light is the most versatile, the P60c is definitely the most versatile with its full color supports. The only downside is no bowens adaptors for diffusion, you'll have to set up diffusion curtains.
      If having color options is not what you're after and you just want daylight, then the LS60d makes more sense as it is going to produce more power and has bowens options.
      Hope this helps.

    Regarding how it creates a hotspot on a conventional softbox, would it be safe for me to assume that if I'm using it as a key for a small set e.g. coffee table for food shots, I could potentially get away with not using a soft box and just toning down the power? What's the radius of the beam at 6ft?

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  2 года назад +1

      Hey hey again Professional Potato!
      The radius from 6ft away in flood mode is approx a 6ft radius. Essentially it's a one to one ratio when in flood mode.
      In terms of using it as a key when getting close to the coffee table and food, I think its going to depend on if you want harsh lighting or soft lighting. If you want softer lighting you'll still need to diffuse or bounce the light to increase your illuminating surface. If you don't, then you are projecting from a small single LED source, that has less illuminating surface, so the shadows will have a hard time wrapping around the food and look harsh.
      Because of this light and its spot beam nature, I would probably go the bounce route and have a cheap white board boomed over where you would normally have a softbox. From there set up the light somewhere and use the barn doors and flag it so that it lights up the board and bounces towards the food. This is a nice cheap setup to start with until you get a softbox.
      Hope this helps!

    My budget can afford an LS-60X and an Aputure 120D ii. Do you think I could get away with using the LS-60X as a key light in the meantime if it allowed me to save for a 300D II or 300x? My concern in that the 120 ii is older tech without Sidus link, and that it’s not particularly bright in comparison to lights such as the new amaran series. For reference I am used to using Godox SL-60W lights, but have found them to be a little dim for many situations I am faced with…
    EDIT: it is also possible that I can purchase a single 300D ii or 300x, though I worry about them being my only light as I prefer to travel with a lighter kit.

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  2 года назад

      Hey hey again Orlando!
      I unfortunately don't have the LS60x to give you an idea of how much output it actually produces compared to the LS60d, I do know its a little dimmer, maybe by only 1/3 stops or something like that. That being said, because of its lens focused nature, it will technically still be brighter than the Godox SL60w from the same distances. The big difference, of course, is that the LS60x is not going to be a flood beam like the Godox. If you are filming with a diffusion curtain or softbox, the LS60x can easily be your key light if you are used to the output of a Godox SL60w.
      Because you still have your godox, presumably you're not getting rid of it yet. You can use both of these lights in tandem for a little bit until you save up for the 300d or 300x. Thats probably the route I would go if you are slowly building your aputure kit.
      Hope this helps somewhat!

      Hey hey Don!

      The Amaran 200d/x would be brighter. If your indoor studio lighting idea does not require the need of a focusable COB light because you are just going to use a softbox. I would then just go the Amaran route. You may even want to look into the Amaran 100d as it will be more than enough in a indoor studio with controlled lighting.

    Also, I’m wondering why it’s putting out so much light when it’s only a 60 watt. In the long run, will this cut the life expectancy of the LED light? I guess we’ll find out in a long term review by other creators. :)

      Mista Heeeeng!
      The 60w is essentially going through a magnifying glass to produce the higher output once it hits the surface. Essentially the same way to start a fire with the Sun and magnifier. The heatsink is much more substantial than the Amaran 60d, so I think in terms of longevity of the chip the LS60d should last longer. But then again LED's are getting more and more efficient each year so we're in a great place!
