Kani Kusruti is an Indian actor who has worked in several movies across languages. Her forthcoming film, Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine as Light, had been selected in competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The film has won Grand Prix prize in the Cannes Film festival this year. Directed by Payal Kapadia, the film starstwo Malayali actors Divya Prabha and Kani Kusruti.The film was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.
She first gained recognition in 2009 with the film Kerala Cafe, where her performance was critically acclaimed. Kani won the Best Actress at Kerala State Film Awards in 2020 and the Best Actress Award at the Moscow International Film Festival for her performance as Khadeeja in the film Biriyaani. Kani was born to social activist and rationalist parents Jayasree A. K. and Maitreya Maitreyan. They had decided that they wouldn`t get married and raised Kani in an unconventional environment. Kani began her acting journey with theatre and was very well appreciated for her performances there as well.

The moment I saw that this interview have 5 parts, I decided that I will watch the whole thing in a single go. But my mind lose the control and Im watching before 5th part. Happiness is always and is sans any ‘thing ‘ ! There’s happiness in marriage and outside marriage and marriage is not any driving factor. Institutionalising anything only leads to binding ! The paradox is humans institutionalise ‘things’ to bring security, happiness and trust when the same institutions bind them from exploring the full potential of just ‘being’ness. Society is only a set of norms that is on repeat mode which started from that ‘original sin’ , that sin based on psychological biases like consensus bias, bandwagon effects. People are driven towards such institutions for they fear themselves being left out by the majority as seen from Dhanya‘s questioning too. The history has time and again proven that the majority is always clueless (even in a democracy ). So why give undue weightage to institutions? Use institutions for your purpose rather that it use you for its sake !

All parents damage their children. It cannot be helped. Youth, like pristine glass, absorbs the prints of its handlers. Some parents smudge, others crack, a few shatter childhoods completely into jagged little pieces, beyond repair.
All that a woman needs to hear is what she rightly said. Always adored her. I'm sure some day people will understand what she is saying. Things are not black and white or right or wrong, but everything lies in the choice.
