Bharatham is interpreted as a modern-day adaptation of the Ramayana from Bharath’s perspective. This song was picturised on Mohanlal in the climax of the film. In the song sequence Mohanlal portrayed the inner conflicts of his character Gopinathan, who is forced to conceal the truth of his brother's death because of their vocally disabled sister's marriage. During the last section of the song, Mohanlal sits in between the fire show, symbolizing that his brother's body on the other side is burning to ashes on behalf of his sister's on-going marriage.
The film won three National Film Awards-Best Actor for Mohanlal, Best Male Playback Singer for K. J. Yesudas for the song "Rama Katha Ganalayam", and Special Mention for Raveendran's music, and five Kerala State Film Awards !!

This movie written in 3 days before shooting, actually they were planning a different subject, but unfortunately some one told that it may have some connection with one another movie, but it was too late , pooja is already done nd shooting will start tomorrow. But after a meeting with nedumudi , sibi sir and lohi , they got a subject, mohanlal is also impressed, lohi sir started writing nd made a screen play from scratch. Its produced by mohanlal himself

Iconic song ! Bharathan is a legendary movie. This song is set in shubhapanthuvarali ragam which evokes a beautiful sense of pathos. The context is heart breaking. He is singing this just after his brother died. But no one else knows. Because the bride is mute and her dad died. Mohanlal n Urvashi hides the news and their sadness so that wedding can happen.

The situation of the song is like this - Mohan Lal is made to sing as part of pre-wedding celebrations because it is his Sister's wedding the next day. But Mohan Lal has just come back from cremating his elder Brother who was his musical Guru, who dies in a road mishap. @@mr.kochappan2418 sorry about the name. You right its Nadaroopini. I wouldn't argue its on the same level. But its really hard to sing though. For example if you consider all the reality shows that have happened in malayalam, noone has actually sang Nadaroopini while people have sang pramadavanam

Hi. The songs in this movie ( a classic) are beautiful. Mohanlal is trying to hide his grief from his family coz of his sister's wedding..and the family is unaware of the tragedy which has taken place. Hence the scene of him sitting within a ring of fire. He ( in the movie) comes from a family of singers.
