You just picked one of the greatest METAL anthems ever. Listen to the whole album, Gods of Wraith is also a personal fav. Also just listen to "metal church" same name as album. Metal church would be a huge influence on the transition from speed metal to thrash. They are arguably my fav 80's metal band, even more then testament and metallica.

Some of the best times of my life were going to smaller metal concerts in the mid and late 80s. The mosh pits were more about feeling the music rather than trying to hurt somebody. There was a love and respect for each other(an unspoken headbangers bond). Anybody that would get out of line would be dealt with.

March of 1987, my best friend David and I picked up Metallica’s Master of Puppets (vinyl) at a K-Mart going out of business sale in Macon, Georgia. I think the list price was $9.98 and we picked it up for $1.99. At the same going out of business sale, we picked up Metal Church for the same price. Each purchase was a “WTH, let’s give it a try” impulse purchase. We headed back the dorm, loaded up Master of Puppets first and were blown away - shocked, nodding to the beat, unable to utter coherent sentences - we basically cussed, looked at each other, cussed some more, and made grunting noises that slipped from our stink-faces. 😊 We had the same reaction to Metal Church.

Tell him I said thanks for the music that was my entire 80's theme. My teen age years was metal church and a very unsafe 1980 Toyota Celica power sliding through the mtns of TN. All I need is Metal church, a curvy road and I get a grin to this day when I drive. Metal Church > Metallica > Testament. But Metal Church was my metal temple.

So excited to see you reacted to Seattle’s Metal Church, one of the best of the original thrash metal bands and criminality overlooked. Beyond the Blade is the opening track of one of the best debut albums ever. Check out the instrumental Relentless Assault.
I’m always puzzled when you dump on the “old” sound of classic recordings and insist that you want to listen only to “remaster”. It has nothing to do with the actual quality of the music, the creative innovation, or the performance. You have to keep in mind that these thrash metal was definitely an underground music scene and these bands had limited access to fundage, recoding studios and audio engineering talent. This album was recorded several years before revolutionized the sound of metal records when he produced Reign in Blood. It still sounds great to me.
I would like to see your reaction to records produced in the 1930’s, and even the 1920’s.

Metal Church had to potential to be huge in 1984 when they debuted... They were from Seattle and part of the metal scene of Metallica & Slayer. Their singer David Wayne was a powerful vocalist like Rob Halford of Judas Priest... guitarist Kurdt Vanderhoof was a solid songwriter.
Unfortunately, Metal Church endured internal problems... by '88, David Wayne was fired... Mike Howe joined as the vocalist. Vanderhoof was replaced by Metallica's roadie John Marshall. When their 4th album 'The human factor' was released in '91, Nirvana became huge and the record was ignored... Metal Church broke up around '95 after a 5th album.
Vanderhoof brought Metal Church back around '99 for 1 album... but the band fell apart again. He tried again w/ new vocalist Ronnie Munroe and a new line-up in 2004 ... David Wayne passed away soon after 😪 R.I.P.
In 2014, singer Mike Howe reunited w/ Metal Church and they made a comeback in 2015... Tragically, Mike Howe took his own life in 2021 😪R.I.P.

For another great Seattle metal/thrash band, you guys should check out Sanctuary. Their debut album Refuge Denied was produced by Megadeth's Dave Mustaine, who played leads on their cover of Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit". Great band, I think you'd both love it. \m/

Finally saw them live in 2016 on tour with Megadeth, Amon Amarth, Suicidal Tendencies, and Butcher Babies. So glad I got to see them. The Metal Church album is fantastic.

Saw them opening for Metallica on the first tour after Cliff Burton's death. The classic Line Up. Title track from the Metal Church album are a great number. So are Fake Healer with later vocalist Mike Howe or Watch the Children Prey from the second album

Metal Church came from the same town as Nirvana, Aberdeen. Even on the same street in some ways.

Check out some Anvil. They are the most underrated thrash band ever. May even be the ones responsible for the whole genre! Song suggestions would be "Metal On Metal", "Juggernaut Of Justice", and "March Of The Crabs".

When Metal Church came out they blew doors on the metal scene in San Antonio. The whole album was great and that’s rare. You can pretty much pick any song in this album and it’s impressive, even their remake of Highway Star. Brad and Lex listen to Gods of wrath and Hitman on your show. I think you’ll like both.

I recommend ANY song from either album, "Hanging in the balance" or, "The Human Factor." To hit the ground, running... I recommend the song, "conductor." One other notable, outstanding song is from their first album, "God's or wrath." I 100% agree with other saying they are the most underrated metal band, ever.

Hell yeah, Metal Church! They are quite revered in the metal community. Once you dig deeper into Thrash you'll notice that while they don't have the notoriety of the Big 4 they are widely known and respected (much like Overkill, Exodus, Testament, etc.). This was an awesome reaction from you two, as always, but the original video's audio quality was very poor....didn't do the song justice. The cymbals and highs were filled with digital artifact noise in particular (certainly didn't do Brad any favors during the high pitched guitar solos LOL). A higher quality source would make you like it even more. Keep up the great work guys! \m/

Metal Church debuted in 1985. At the time us Metal fans considered Metal Church to be Thrash Metal, however after further refinement of the genres, I think they would and should be classified as just Speed Metal, or even Traditional Metal. That said, they're actually a great band. Their most popular years were of course the 80s and early 90s, but when the music industry changed, they kinda broke up, but reformed again in the 2000s with a different singer. He was alright, but just wasn't quite right for the band. In 2015 their fan favorite 2nd singer rejoined the band and they put out 3 new albums with him. With the last one release xcx earlier this year. Unfortunately he committed suicide earlier this summer around the time Eddie Van Halen died. It was a shock to all of us Metal Church fans. Initial thoughts was that he died of an illness or overdose, but a few days later it was revealed to have been a suicide. It was ashame too because everybody said he was a happy dude and thrilled to be back in the band that he loved back in the day.
