The club has such a huge meaning to Germany. With the 1954 world cup title, they gave a lot of pride to all west germans (and even east germans, too). And all five players of the club being in Switzerland that time played in the final. Fritz Walter is seen as a man who built up the nation morally as the moral was devasted after the war.
Is it ironic that a World Club brings Kaiserslautern into limelight (the 1954 with the Miracle of Bern) but then another World Club also leads to this club's downfall (by the debts taken for paying the Renovation of Stadium for the 2006... which is named after said Legend who created that Miracle in the first place)? Thanks for the Fun Fact though. Cheers.

That's true but it wasn't just the worldcup that brouth all the financial problems... it all started after they won the german championship in 1998 cause then they still wanted to compeet with bayern in the following years. That was a huge mistake cause they really weren't a top team then and still bought a lot players who weren't in their prime anymore for way too much money! They also had a lot of "dirty" presidents which stole money from the club then... "...almost comparable to the Premier League title won by Leicester..." - This is a prime example of the Premier League bias you see so often in football videos these days. Both from an emotional standpoint and as footballing performance, Kaiserslautern's achievement ranks significantly higher than Leicester's. I don't want to take anything away from the Foxes' unbelievable title run. The competition in today's Premier League is incredibly strong and there is almost no room to break the top club's reign. However, Leicester did spend freaking 40.000.000€ that summer and another 23.000.000€ the year before that. Not much in comparison to Chelsea, ManCity and so on. But a ton in general to work with and sign players like Kante. So obviously they were able to snatch up great talent. To put things into perspective, Leicester spent more that year than Bayern Munich has 16 times out of the last 20 years! With this sort of investment power you are obviously bound to generate some success. Kaiserslautern on the other hand won the title as a newly promoted side. To get a feel for that kind of scope you would need to imagine Norwich winning the title last season. Not everything great only happens in freaking England! Aside from Kaiserslautern 1998, you might want to check the Bundesliga relegation battle of 1999, or Schalke's 4-minute title of 2001.
i'm from kaiserslautern! great video! but maybe you could have described in more detail how close we got between 2012 and 2015 to returning to the bundesliga. In 14/15 we were one win away from confirming promotion with 4 games to go against fairly easy opposition. we lost 2 and drew 2 dropping into 4th place. afterwards the best players, like leipzigs orban, leverkusens demirbay and napolis younes left and we fell into midtable and then relegation. it's pretty tough to think back to how close we got to being back in the bundesliga and likely fixing our financial issues, while we now sit in lower midtable in the 3 bundesliga.
I am also from K'town, was born there, raised and grew-up there, and left for good when I was 21. I keep very fond childhood/teen memories of KL and the beautiful region. I still follow KL's team until today, watching their games. It's a tragedy what was done to that club by Friedrich and Wischemann - they basically destroyed it.

Wow, what a brilliantly investigated and edited Video! I'm not even a Kaiserslautern fan, just a German, but those background story videos are really valuable to give the football world a little image of our history. Thank you very much, Alfie!🙏🏽🤗
IMO these story-type history videos are the most enjoyable on the channel, documenting peculiarities in a specific club's past. Keep up the good work Alfie! 😁
I'm not sure if you have done this (and I can't remember it over the past couple of years), but I would really love to see a video on the history of Athletic Club's Basque only policy. It is incredibly rare in the modern game and also has great political significance due to the massive pressure on the club under the Franco regime. Love your videos as always Alfie and thanks for standing up for the minorities in this clickbait world by giving us some real, academic-styled content!
There was a cycling team, Euskatel-Euskadi, that had the same policy. They had a very strong showing in the early 2000's, winning Tour stages and Vuelta's. They usually had a problem with guys leaving for bigger teams, and they ended up folding in 2013, as the government pulled funding (mostly due to the rampant use of drugs in the sport) even though cycling is very popular in the region.
This football RUclips channel is really underrated, I really like your work and research, every time I get a new phone I subscribe to this channel and see the videos even though I already saw them before, great work Alfie hope your channel grows bigger and gets the recognition it deserves
It is heartbreaking to see Kaiserslautern in that situation but it gives a nice feeling to see that it is remembered in so many brains out there. Nice vid mate and pretty solid pronunciation of the german words ;D keep it up Love from Germany and from a kaiserslautern fan :)
When I lived in the American military community in Wiesbaden and Mainz-Kastel, Kaiserslautern was simply known as "K-Town". Always struck me as strange that we couldn't take the time to pronounce our host country's cities, but words like "Tallahassee" and "Oklahoma" were pronounced fully like it wasn't shit.
@@hchastain16 That's super interesting. Are you in the military community out there, or are you a civilian? We moved back to the US in 2007, so I'd assume things have changed. Now that I think of it, though, the Americans I knew that had been stationed there used the proper name. Maybe it's something to do with seeing the name on Autobahn signs and stuff.
Kaiserslautern's fall makes me very sad. I'm not a die-hard supporter of them, but I've been there twice when my team (Hannover 96) played there and their fans are very nice people. I have very fond memories and their arena is awe-inspiring. Their supporters have gone through a lot and it's a shame to see them where they are right now. They all deserve so much better.
I lived in Ramstein for 3yrs, and my first ever soccer game I went to Kaiserslautern to see them play Nuremberg in a 1-1 tie. It was cold but had a great time.
Werder Bremen wasn't in the Second Division in 1996/97 (we havent been since 1981) Second Place has been Wolfsburg in that season. Still a great video, i miss Kaiserslautern in the Bundesliga..
Great video! I managed Die roten Teufel as my first team on Football Manager 2020. I resign after four Bundesliga titels in a row and winning the CL in 2029.
Why would 1. FC Kaiserslautern have to pay themselves for the stadium renovation when the DFB or whoever was in charge chose it as one of the host stadiums for the 2006 WC? Especially since they don't even own the stadium! That should have been paid by the DFB and the state/city, and MAYBE a bit by the club if they agreed to it. Absolutely insane.
I lived in German in 1991, just outside of K-Town. The area then, as alluded to, has the largest concentration of Americans outside of America. It feels like America more than Germany. Everyone seemed to speak English (it made it really hard to try and speak German, because it was just easier to do it in English) There are English TV channels, radio stations, fast food joints. I mean, it made it easy to live there for sure. That year, FCK was the Bundesliga. I always wondered what the deal was with them, they were so fanatically supported by all the Germans I knew. (I was not in the Military, I was working for a cycling company and was racing bikes as an amateur.)
Dear, Alfie, I hope you're doing good regardless of the situation, especially in this kind of times. If you read this comment (which I hope that you would), I want you to know that I love this channel and the contents you presented on a daily basis as it feels like I'm watching some sort of football documentaries with such a deep ,comprehensive yet you're amazingly able to summarize it to make sure that your presentation could be well-delivered to all of your viewers. Anyhow (yeah, a bit of pun intended. lol), just like a normal human being, there has to be a preference or few of those on things in life especially in what you presented here in HITC Sevens channel. And if you ask me what content I enjoy the most in this channel, I'd say that "What went wrong" documentaries of a particular team is my preferable theme of this channel and I'd love to see more of this down the road. Hopefully you can make many more of them about other teams that we all know have their own rise and fall in this past decades such as Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers, Hamburger SV, and any other teams you and others might know have quite similar story. The rest, well, I would say that I'll just do my usual daily activities and wait for you to present some (mostly) unthinkable football contents and watch it as well as give it as many likes as possible (as I already subscribed to this channel since... I guess around mid to late 2018, with my old account and my new one later). That's all I want to get off my mind in this channel's comment section as of late, thank you for your time & all of your efforts to make sure that all of these possible. Best wishes, peace & love from an HITC Sevens fan and hopefully , a good friend, some time down the road, all the way from Indonesia. Cheers!
Rise and fall of Malaga, when they had van nistelrooy, kameni, cazorla, Demichelis, toulalan, joaquin, monreal, Baptista, caballero, isco, rondon with pellegrini as manager
The biggest problem after being the Champion in 1998 was the transfer-policy. We just bought expensive players, gave them a lot of money but the didnt perform like they should. Those transfers just erase the money and were deadly too. But the stadium really killed us after the World Cup. And to be honest our team this season isnt that bad but they just do not perform the way they could. We won 5 games in a row but in the last 5 games we didnt win any game. And with our goalkeeper going to Leverkusen and our top scorer most likely to leave too next season could be really hard. But I love it that finally someone outside of germany makes a video about our lovely club 😁😁
Small technical annotation: during their first stint at the second tier, they weren't 10 points ahead of Werder Bremen, as stated in the video, but of VfL Wolfsburg. Werder Bremen was (as of now, if the Corona season would have continued it may change) only once in the second tier in 1980. VfL Wolfsburg has been promoted the same year as Kaiserslautern bounced back and stayed in the top flight ever since.
Do a video about Tigres UANL in mexico. They have risen up a lot in the past decade and have a very passionate fanbase..including myself. Keep up the good work !!
Grew up in K-town (military brat) There is so much history behind this team and some star studded players have put on that kit in the past, it's truly a shame what happened to them and hopefully they drag themselves back up to the top flight sooner than later.
I really enjoyed this video. I don't want to sound picky, and I understand you'd like to keep it short and concise- but it would be cool to hear a bit more detail about "how" they won the Bundesliga (who signed, who tookover as manager, what happened on the last league match/title decider/relegation decider etc)...just a thought. A little added context. Otherwise awesome content, subscribed!
I was living at Ramstein Air Base during the 1997-8 season. I was at the game when they clinched the title. What a party on the streets of K-Town that night.
Thank you man, u couldnt explain better. As a lautern fan it means a lot to me because we, the fans, never left the club. As u said, 19k fans per game watch us, and when uts a big game, its almost full every time. But the stadium, despite being beautiful, fucked us heavily. In my opinion, the city should just conceed the stadium to us, so therefore we wouldnt have to pay a lot. WESTKURVE FUR LEBEN🔴⚪❤👹
Great video although as an Eintracht Frankfurt I hate them I want them back in the Bundesliga because I miss the games against Kaiserslautern because of the hatred between both set of fans
An extremely so tearful to see Kaiserslautern to be in a downfall despite winning several titles in their history but I would want to see them winning two promotions from the division 3 to the top flight in coming years, good friend!!!:(By the way,I would want to see the German FA to be broadcasting the lower division matches so that most of us would watch those matches and never ever leave them out as our respective supports must be given to them as well as in the first division, good friend!!!:-D
These types of videos are my fav but I prefer it when their is a happy ending 😂 sadly in a lot of cases that’s not what happens tho, thankfully it was for my club (Rangers fc) and the worst is behind us I can’t believe myself how far we gave came
Can you please do a video on MSV Duisburg 1 of the founders of the bundesliga now in the bottom of the 3rd tier... It would mean a lot to me and my favourite club:)
They have so much potential as a club. If they could fill that Stadium. Just need a winning mentality on the pitch. Always go 1.FCK in Fifa. And bought FM 21 to get them back to where they belong. First attempt, I finished 4th and 2nd season 5th and they sacked me. Funny eh.
Then I started again. Played 4-3-3 wde DM. Went through the liga.3 unbeaten promoted first season. Computer games we can dream, with one game left in Bundesliga 2 lying 2nd 1 pt behind Augsburg and 1 pt ahead of Mainz 05. It is only a game, but would love to see Kaiserlautern FC in the Bundesliga again.

Äääh fick dich

@@philschmidt26 Haha junge 😂 Du denkst auch, dass Waldhof aufsteigt. Komplett lost.
As a German who is Fan of Another 3rd Division Team (FC Magdeburg) and with familymembers who live near Kaiserslautern and following the 1. FCK it was very interesting to hear the story from an englishman. Good job
Wow, what a brilliantly investigated and edited Video!
I'm not even a Kaiserslautern fan, just a German, but those background story videos are really valuable to give the football world a little image of our history. Thank you very much, Alfie!🙏🏽🤗
You missed when Killie and Kaiserslautern became great friends and started to go to each others games and became eachothers own fans
IMO these story-type history videos are the most enjoyable on the channel, documenting peculiarities in a specific club's past. Keep up the good work Alfie! 😁
I’m not a Bournemouth fan but what they did was incredible would be nice to see a Bournemouth style documentary
I guess Tifo Football has done a video on it
@@Michael-yo3vu they have ;)
There was a cycling team, Euskatel-Euskadi, that had the same policy.
Under Franco the team was praised because they played with 11 Spaniards

What's so interrupted about it?
That's just what I wanna know 🤣🤣
This football RUclips channel is really underrated, I really like your work and research, every time I get a new phone I subscribe to this channel and see the videos even though I already saw them before, great work Alfie hope your channel grows bigger and gets the recognition it deserves
Could be in for a part 2, Dirk Schuster is doing Dirk Schuster things with the club right now
It is heartbreaking to see Kaiserslautern in that situation but it gives a nice feeling to see that it is remembered in so many brains out there. Nice vid mate and pretty solid pronunciation of the german words ;D keep it up
Love from Germany and from a kaiserslautern fan :)
Thanks so much for this video on the Red Devils of the Betzenberg ("die roten Teufel vom Betzenberg").
Kilmarnock Fc/ Kaiserslautern 💙❤️
looking forward to visit you in Kilmarnock ^^
Now that MJ is away we should do a 2 leg game, would love to go over to Germany, always see the Germans over here every year
We need Kaiserslauten back in the Bundesliga.
Oklahoma city is called okc
Tallahassee is just 4 sylables
KostasNotKolsas so is Kaiserslautern
I’m American and lived in Kaiserslautern for seven years. I’d say only about half the Americans I met there referred to it as “K-Town.”
I lived there to in an amerixan vase and we went to a game
Did a Kaiserslautern save on FM19 and it was the best I've ever done. Hope they come back up soon

They all deserve so much better.
at least they got promoted back to the 2.Bundesliga today.
1:00am here in Los Angeles! Stay safe everyone! 🙏🏽
Dear, Alfie,
I hope you're doing good regardless of the situation, especially in this kind of times.
Cheers!
Enjoyed this. Great work Alfie 👍
Rise and fall of Malaga, when they had van nistelrooy, kameni, cazorla, Demichelis, toulalan, joaquin, monreal, Baptista, caballero, isco, rondon with pellegrini as manager

TJ House yes!
So sad, been a fan since 1997, when I visited and stayed in Kaiserslautern. Always will be a fan. I wish them the best and to get back to top level.
Thank you for the Video. It means much for us 👹❤️👹🇩🇪

FC Twente's 2009/10 title winning team. Where are they now?
I have been waiting for this!👍👍
another great video alfie keep it up
Brilliant video👏🏼
I think I found my new favorite German club
This is an incredible video
Last time I was this early, someone actually paid over £30m for Andy Carroll
The last time I was this early, a 30 million pound transfer was actually significant in the world of football! 😂
🤔 35
I mocked Andy Carroll once for that ridiculous transfer fee a few years ago in a casino, he was not happy to say the least
Last time I was early man Utd were a good side
He was worth the money he scored 9 goals. Of which won a trophy then recouped half of the fee. #Hecost15m
Do a video about Tigres UANL in mexico. They have risen up a lot in the past decade and have a very passionate fanbase..including myself. Keep up the good work !!
This breaks my heart as a lifelong fan every time
very good research done
Good video! I remember playing w/ them FIFA. Always wondered what had happened to them since I wasn’t too familiar with the Bundesliga at that time.
fantastic video!
Grew up in K-town (military brat)
There is so much history behind this team and some star studded players have put on that kit in the past, it's truly a shame what happened to them and hopefully they drag themselves back up to the top flight sooner than later.
Get fritz Walter an icon card in fifa why the hell does he not have one
I thought this was an ad because I'd been reading about them just last night.
Sweet coincidence
As a FCK-Fan I hope we will rise again. The club has the unofficial motto: Unzerstörbar, which translates to "indestructible".
Excellent video, thank you
I really enjoyed this video.
Maybe that's one for you and your channel?
@@callumhayes7502 Don't have one, but thanks.
I was living at Ramstein Air Base during the 1997-8 season. I was at the game when they clinched the title. What a party on the streets of K-Town that night.
The 7 best players who changed position mid career
The 7 best players who switched their strong/ weak foot mid career
Thank you man, u couldnt explain better. As a lautern fan it means a lot to me because we, the fans, never left the club. As u said, 19k fans per game watch us, and when uts a big game, its almost full every time. But the stadium, despite being beautiful, fucked us heavily. In my opinion, the city should just conceed the stadium to us, so therefore we wouldnt have to pay a lot. WESTKURVE FUR LEBEN🔴⚪❤👹
It would be nice if you coudl make a video about the 2000/01 Bundesliga title decider.
I have fond memories of my brief, drunk times in K-town.
Great video although as an Eintracht Frankfurt I hate them I want them back in the Bundesliga because I miss the games against Kaiserslautern because of the hatred between both set of fans
Love this, thank you!
Also Wankdorf is an epic name.
That's mannheim fans
And the fact that young boys play there. You couldn’t write it!
Go through each team and pick the best ever player from each continent.
Loved this one so much
An extremely so tearful to see Kaiserslautern to be in a downfall despite winning several titles in their history but I would want to see them winning two promotions from the division 3 to the top flight in coming years, good friend!!!:(By the way,I would want to see the German FA to be broadcasting the lower division matches so that most of us would watch those matches and never ever leave them out as our respective supports must be given to them as well as in the first division, good friend!!!:-D
These types of videos are my fav but I prefer it when their is a happy ending 😂 sadly in a lot of cases that’s not what happens tho, thankfully it was for my club (Rangers fc) and the worst is behind us I can’t believe myself how far we gave came
Brilliant 👏🏻 Well done
A perfect fifa career mode team to use!
Kaiserslautern Betzenberg I miss you👹😭🙏

@Luke Shaw's Daddy ???
Great video
Can you please do a video on MSV Duisburg 1 of the founders of the bundesliga now in the bottom of the 3rd tier... It would mean a lot to me and my favourite club:)
8:18 the second place was VfL Wolfsburg, not Werder Bremen. Werder only had one season in the Second Bundesliga, and that was in the early 80s.
Kaiserslautern is my hometown, even the football club is bad now , we really support it....
Respect thanks for this
Can you please do the rise of Luton? I think the consecutive promotions would be an interesting topic for a video.
Quality video
8:15 Slight correction - VfL Wolfsburg were the team who came 2nd after Kaiserslautern.
just started a career mode save with them due to this video, time to win the Bundesliga 🤝
