Personally I think the limited palette of 80s and 90s Lego sets led to much nicer looking pieces overall and a lot more versatility as to what parts can be combined with what other parts in a build. When we've got ten pinks, seven grays, and twenty blue-greens things can look a bit muddled.

Your Lego reviews are probably the best on RUclipss. I love how you structure your videos and even take the time to put the minifigs in interesting poses whenever they are on screen.
A great mix of objective reviewing and personal opinions, and making sure of showing every play features and easter eggs.
I wonder why you stopped making reviews? Is it because of COPPA?

I may understand the reasons for not walling the cabin and have a door for a simple reason, for its size there's no other access to the cabin, neither from the sides or the rear. On the BSB it opens from the back and the top, however here and because there's a mast that is somehow connected to the forward mast through a string it would be difficult to open it up from the top. I am experiencing few things from my Brick Bounty in term of playing with it because sometimes with too many elements its either blocking the hands or knocking off things. I think Lego was also thinking from that part of view.
But in the end this is the best Ship design for the non pirates sides (I am excluding the 2010 Ship because that is a different subject)

    • @TrikBrix
      @TrikBrix  5 лет назад +1

Agreed... it’s still a great design, and one of my favorites! I would’ve just liked to have seen a proper, full size Imperial battleship in the vintage line. I guess I just like my Lego sets BIG. 😄 Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for watching! 😎👍

    • @glitterboy2098

yep. and at the time the options for hinged parts (used on more modern sets to create walls and roofs you could open up for play) were a lot more limited. but even with those and using a single stud width bulkhead wall, you'd only get maybe 5-6 studs length of play area. barely enough to put in a couple minifigs and pretty cramped for kid's hands.
as a kid i always just rationalized it as the ship being a patrol boat that wasn't really meant to have fancy accommodations aboard the way that proper frigates and warships would. that the area under the aftcastle was mostly there to keep the weather off the crew as they slept on the deck. (i also used that little cargo area at the bow as a brig for captured pirates a few times. :) )
i do wish i'd thought of that rope ladder trick for giving access to the ships wheel though. as a kid i don;t think i cared about that, and by the time i hit the age where i might have worried about it, the set had gone through so many house moves that it had become rather irretrievably blended into my general lego bin. same for the other sets i had. i really should see if i can find the instructions and reconstruct it. (or just budget out $200 or so to try and get one off ebay)

I gotta say I love how much you talk about customization in your videos. All I see from a lot of lego youtubers is how they hate on a lego set cause it just doesnt have what they want but you just simply say what your not a fan of with no anger or rudeness at all and just fix it your own way. It feels great to watch a lego review without so much hate.:)

A two-masted ship with only one rigged mast, all square rigged except for the foresail? I hope they like only sailing downwind...
This ship needs a spanker sail (fore-and-aft rigged sale on a rear mast) on its missen.
Also, calling this a clipper is inaccurate. This is a ketch with bad rigging. A clipper was basically a sloop with two or more foresails or jibs.

BTW.: The small ladder piece became only available with the redcoats. So that ladder was no option at that time. The name of the ship comes from the fantastic audio books and the comic.
The chief with the yellow plume is governor Broadside. I used to switch the two and always placed him in my eldorado fortress, while the guy with the red plume became my ship captain.
I also outfitted the ship with four cannons, which is possible here in contrast to the imperial flagship.
I think there is no privacy for the captain, so you are able to play inside. When I was little this used to be no problem. My imagination always added the missing wall and stairs. 🤷‍♂️
Thanks for the nice review. 😀

  • @T0ffik1

this set and lego imperial flagship (red coats) were rly great for their price, and contrary to the bigger more finished Pirate ships, you could actually add some blocks you had to make them similary finished (with the barracuda's extra semi deck in middle etc). I dont know tbh im not sure i like this one more or the red coats. (red coats can be easier finished up with the front/middle part extra deck though but cant have 4 cannons).

I always wondered about the Cargo hold, because I at first I used to assume that it was a brig, then when I realised that was impossibe to fit any mini figures inside it I then assumed that an area for the sailors to do maintenance on the 'chain' (ie the string) for the anchor in the same manner one may lift up the hood of of a car in order to check or repair the engine.
As for the side burns on the head of the Governor Broadside Mini Figure they could also represent part of a wig, like the kind traditionally worn by Judges in Court as they were fashionable for rich men to own and wear during the era that Pirates is set.
Such a wig would indeed be worn by a man of his station, thus you can catch my drift.
I never really put any thought into his 5:00 shadow though....

  • @Elstar.
    @Elstar. Год назад

If a flag is standing perfectly oppose the wind it could be in an unstable equilibrium where the wind do not touch either of the sides on the flag and don't flip it to the stable equilibrium pointing forward. So Having the flag oppose to the wind is technically not impossible but very unlikely and any wind from the side would risk breaking the equilibrium. On other hand the flags are just plastic so and the require a lot of wind to flip. Point them anyway you want, use them to indicate the wind direction if you want

Just thought of this and probably other people as well but the lego company should have made a special pack of ship parts for all ships that was made so that you can customize your own ship however you want it. like extending the clipper so it could have 4 cannons on each side so it wuld be a total of 8 cannons or adding another sail or two hell they should have made separate instructions for making a cabin for the ships that has none for the captains to have there privacy multiple special packages of separate sails with the blue imperial guards and the red imperial soldiers And for the pirates as well!

The vintage LEGO sets have gotten out of sight now! I'm glad I bought mine years ago when I didn't pay much over a hundred for any of them. I can't believe how expensive the sails are either!
Yes this ship is very bare bones and I don't like the odd positioning of the rigging. I added another and had them clip the sides like the other ships, but I never got around to modifying the cabin.
I don't think the flags should face forward. If a ship is sailing at speed through the ocean, I would think the flags would get pushed backwards, and that force would be greater than the wind pushing forward, but I could be wrong, who knows!
The color scheme does look good I agree!

Almost all sets suffered from this. Like the dragon lair from castle or plenty of the castles. Even the iconic falcons fortress. I own it but it didn't have anything to wind the rope. While the previous castle did. It's either serious budget restraints or the designer simply didn't care as long as it looks good from the outside.😂

If you haven't got the original figure head, then using a normal red parrot element works just as well, in fact in my opinion it looks better because it looks like the figure head has just been repainted after a long and successful voyage, or perhaps for a Royal inspection...

Only issue is, the tricorn is worn incorrectly.

How do you get the string so tight? I have been diagnosed with ocd, so I always get exceptionally irate when the rigging gets somewhat loose

I was a dissapointed whit this set, when i got it. There is no any captain cabin with doors, and only 2 cannons. Also it was to short ship. They could put in, a 2 middle sections of hull, instead one..

So you wanted it to be the same size (and thus same price) as the pirateship? I got this soldiership for my birthday because the pirateship was too expensive. I probably wouldn’t have had a ship at all if they had made this one as big as the pirateship.

I think it’s awesome that LEGO is introducing a new original theme, and I really like the look some of the builds have, like the school and graveyard. I’m eagerly awaiting more detailed pictures of the other sets! 😎👍

Thanks so much! It takes a LOT of time to compose and record all the music, so it’s always nice to hear when someone notices and enjoys it! 😎👍

You’re probably going to have to use eBay or BrickLink for this one. If you did find it on Amazon, it would probably be way more expensive.
