nice. guess you are on your own property - a nice farm? cool idea. Definitely the first looper wearing huge boots ever. Nice singing voice. Keep it up.
Thank you. Hi. I actually walked quite a long way with bags of equipment to do this video. I wasnt going to film it there as i had somewhere else in mind, when i got to my original location i noticed it was next to a woodland path that had many people walking their dogs and they were putting me off so i carried on walking and found this location. Part way through filming the farmer must have come and let the sheep into the field, i didnt even notice the sheep until i finished and looked round, they must have realised i was filming and stayed quiet for me.
I just got one last night and have been up all night playing with it. it's amazing guy at guitar center said I should get the rc 3 cause the rc30 is hard to use needless to say he's a idiot and I got the rc30 and love it it is a little hard at first and got a lot to learn about it but worth it
Thank you from the future me. I hope you managed to get something our of your rc-30. it appears the trend towards loop pedals dropped off significantly. I still use them and love them but it seems to be a forgotten art 8 years later. Thanks for stopping by all those years ago, was appreicated then and still is now
Only a guitar, microphone, RC 30 and good guitarist of the nice voice. Beautifully ! no comment. :) Len gitara, mikrofón, rc 30 a dobrý gitarista s pekným hlasom. Nádherne ! bez komentára . :)
As always brother,"Awesome!!". I've been playing around with my RC-30 and all I can say is you have the most amazing gift. Keep it coming maybe one day ill glen some of that genius.
That was amazing in more ways the one the setting was spot on peaceful and tranquil complimenting the song the musician perform a male version of this song absolutely owned it more please...
I thought I've seen all RC-30 videos the tube has to offer, but I had missed this. Simply the best one of them all! I've had my pedal for a week and am trying to find ways of arranging songs. It's hard to make them interesting with variations, as that is pretty much against the nature of looping, but this one is a great source of inspiration. Good performance and pretty odd but well working environment too!
Thank you so much from the future me. Yes the art with a loop pedal is figuring out how you will arrange anything on it have some structure of a song, it takes quite a lot of loops before the idea of how to make the song work sets in. Sorry i didnt see your comment back then, i was poor and working really hard to make end meet so missed a lot of comments.
Thank you from the future. They do take quite a bit of getting used to but I also heard the first batch of these pedals were bad and needed a frimware update so you could make a clean loop, was nearly impossbile without it, so perhaps that was your issue
You are the master of rc30 boy! ;) I sold my one jejeje The people can not imagine how dificult is make music like that with this machine, the people doesn't know how much good you are! Great song! (again)
Fantastic, really enjoyed this (and your other videos). Have been toying with the idea of getting a DAW like reason etc for inputing guitar, however, after seeing yours vids i think i'm gonna get a loop pedal.
Thank you. Did you manage to get a loop pedal 7 years ago or did you decide to go with reason instead. Both are great, i use DAWS and loopers, all good fun.
Love the percussive elements - guitar and voice. Do you have a video (or recommendation for one) that shows in more detail how and when to switch tracks? Also enjoyed watching your sheepish audience. I once ended up with chickens in a video. ;)
+Elizabeth Shallers-Wagner Hi, thanks for the great comment. I do have a few tutorials on you tube but not for this song. Have a look at this one, you might find it helpful. ruclips.net/video/jegEvdHM6Sg/видео.html . Good Luck.
HI, yes the audio was recorded live using the zoom mic and a laptop which is hidden behind the rocks. This gives me the mixed pedal audio and the pre pedal audio to work with later. I spent a long time eq'ing and trying to remove faint bird noises from the audio, they are still there but not too noticeable, luckily the sheep stayed quiet. I will soon have a small video of how i set this up if its of interest to you. Thanks for coming back and watching / commenting very much appreciated,
Thanks You. Had a watch of some of your videos, was quite interested in learning the correct chords for 'I want you back' from your video. Up to now I have never really known them and just made something up that sort of sounded right, been playing it wrong for years!
Hi and thank you from the future me. I always try to keep my voice natural in music so if there was anything on it, it was likely a touch of reverb in the post production of the video. Thank you for watching and leaving a great comment
You just increased my respect for batteries and for England. Thanks for revealing some of the magic to the tricks, and one more techno question-- what type of mic?! Halleluyah, sounds sweet... - BL
The Mic is a zoom h2n. The sound quality of this mic is really good and it's quite cheap to buy, however you could only use this type of mic if you were using headphones as it would almost likely feedback if you were using a speaker system.
Hi. No I am not from New Zealand but I can see why you thought I was from the scenery in this video (I assume thats why you thought I was from New Zealand?). I am actually from the UK. Thanks for watching and the great comment.
Hey, this is great! Really nice "photo sense", nice light (not to much sun in the eyes? ;-), perfect scenery for a funny and "nature connected" moment! Musically you are on top! Another perfect loop cover, you are definitly taking the best from this boss! Is the audio really recorded live outside with this mic? The sound quality is really good! Maybe sheeps and birds helped for! Wish you the best, you deserve it!
Great video, congratulations! But I'm curious, you've recorded the video an audio in nature, and then recorded everything again in studio for the definitive mix?
+Rafael Gonçalves Yes and no. What you don't see is the mic also feeds into a laptop which is capturing all the live feed in the same way the pedal does, so it is recorded at the time but obviously that's going to sound pretty flat and have unwanted noise in it, i suppose i could use he audio as it is it but I want my videos to look and sound as good as possible so the whole audio is cleaned up in post.

+ReelfunkyProductions nice, it sounds really good. congrats
Hello. Very nice demonstration and performance. Will you please tell me the brand and model of microphone you used in this video? I am just about to order some gear, including the RC-30. Thanks for the video.
Thank you very much, This reply is 8 years late so I am guessing you ordered the mic long ago. You tube studio has for some reason shown me all the comments i missed form years ago all of a sudden ! The mic was a zoom h2n, not the most ideal mic for most people, but it worked for me as at the time i needed something i could record any instrument on, I had a lack of money back then so needed to keep it basic and cheap
Yes you can turn off parts of the song. There is two channels and you can record to both of them and then stop and start each one whenever you want. I have a video showing how this is done if you are interested. See link below and thanks for commenting. Boss RC-30 - How to use both channels properly
HI from the future me. The country is the UK and the area is west yorkshire. It is a beautiful place in the world as long as you avoid certain areas but i assume its the same everywhere in the world. Thank you for watching and commenting all those years ago
Amazing video and song... 1. How did you power the mic and recording equipment up in the fields? 2. Would you divulge what kind of camera you used here? 3. Is that England? Beautiful land...
Hi. 1. Nearly all of the equipment taken was portable/battery operated. So the Mic, Loop Pedal, Cameras and the laptop are working off batteries. (The laptop is hidden behind the rocks for recording). 2. Most of the cameras used are Nikon D3200's, they are a dslr with video function, you can get some really nice video out of these cameras. 3. Yes this was filmed in England and does indeed have some very beautiful places. Thanks for watching and commenting, always appreciated.
ReelfunkyProductions My Brother from another mother, you are Truly a Highly Talented and Gifted musician. I doff my hat to you in humbleness and with much respect for your great sharing with the music loving world. I am in awe of your ability to seamlessly put together such wonderful, "live" performances. If you have the time, could you please post a few instructional videos on the proper use of looper pedals, such as the RC-30 which you used in this performance, so that us mere 'mortals' can better understand and 'Try' to implement such in our daily toil for accomplishment. Thanks for your awesome contributions to the world of music making mate. Jolly good stuff bloke !!!
Absolutely wonderful, bravo, I have a question. The microphone, so I have condenser so I will use phantom power... 1) when I press left to record acoustic guitar - is the microphone always "armed" the connected to the RC 30? So before I sing the mic is recording the acoustic? I guess if I am using effects pedals those and the mic'd acoustic are both going to be recorded at same time? There is not a an arm unarm ability it is always recording when pressing left pedal to record? 2) Also I have the Apogee ONE interface so I run my pedals, then to the RC 30, then out to the input of the Apogee ONE and record real time in GarageBand or pro logic correct?
Yes all inputs are always armed there is no way to switch an input off on the pedal. This is useful as you can play and sing all instruments while not in record mode but leaves you with a problems if you say wanted to sing and play guitar but only record guitar on a loop. Yes your setup of pedals Into loop pedal , then from loop pedal to garage band would work fine. That is how I do it .
Thank you! In this video I was using a zoom h2n. I've used it in quite a lot of my videos, it's tricky to work with in some scenarios because it will pick up just about anything but that's also a good thing if you just want to use one mic.
9 years too late to comment but for those who still want to know this. The trick is in how you build the patterns. The intro should have elements of the chorus, this can be a totally different chords to the verse. Whilst playing the verse remove the chords that are for the chrous (So keep these on a seperate channel) When you get to the chorus bring the channel back in.
If i remember rightly i only used the Zoom H2n mic. There may have been a small mic on the guitar but it was a long time ago and don't fully remember. Either way the main mic would have been the Zoom H2n. Thanks
ReelfunkyProductions thought so. A real work horse isn't it. How long does it take you to work on a song like this, from idea to recording? I'm still learning the rc -30
Yeah the guitar is great for taking outdoors camping and such, sounds great but not too worried about the damage. The idea for a performance comes fairly quickly, i usually just start messing about with songs i already know and i can have the basic idea with an hour The hard bit is sorting the arrangement, which track to record the sections to, refining the song for loop pedal use like removing bridges or sections that are impossible to fit in an RC-30 loop performance. Sometime i get lucky and it comes within a couple of hours then other times I have to return to the idea many many times so in some cases can take me a few weeks. I guess on average if I have the time I can get it to a decent standard within 2 weeks of practice (I have a small attention span so my practices are never more than about 30 minutes in one day) The time it takes me to get the song right, practice it, film/record and edit takes me longer than i care to think about, I wish it was a quicker process as I would love to have many more RC-30 videos. Good luck with your RC-30, its not an easy machine to master but it is worth the practice, if you get any recordings/videos onto you tube let me know. Cheers
ReelfunkyProductions Hey, thanks a lot for your quick and comprehensive replies, it's really refreshing to receive advice from someone who know their way around the RC-30 and who produces great stuff. I'm writing my own stuff, cos covers don't really suit my voice... at the moment i'm doing a song where the looper comes in halfway through... hope that works!! I'd be grateful if you could listen to it when it's ready !
No you do not need a mixing desk you can just attach the pedal straight into your speakers or headphones . However a mixer does help a lot for balancing the instruments.
wow ! this is really great. Specially for the location with the animals taking a look in the background, and the song is perfect for that. I just got my RC-30 and it's difficult for me, it's a bit more complex than others loop pedals I used. For example: a) I noticed you changed the rythm in one of the channels while playing the other. How in earth did you clear it? I try record some loops in one channel and then some other loops in the other channel. Then I want to clear one of them and unless I stop both channels, I can't clear it. That's very annoying because maybe I want to try something else and I'm stuck in the loops I made in that channel. Is there something I'm doing wrong? b) More annoying than A) is that when I start from scratch, I start playing my guitar, then press left pedal to record the loop, and then I hit left pedal again to save that bars and loop, but it's still recording so the "overlap" between the first note of the loop and the first not of what I played make it hear a bit nasty. In other loops pedals you can stop recording, while the loop would play so you continue smoothly playing and going to something else. Is this clear? I tried stopping recording the loop with right pedal, but It woun't play once I cut, I have to play it with the left later on. Is this clear enough to understand? I see you master this pedal very smoothly so I thought maybe you can help. Thanx in advance and congratulations on your songs!
Hi. As i have only ever used the RC-30 I do not know how it compares to other loop pedals but I know I had a hard time with it at first. Now it may appear that I ,managed to clear a track to build up on to but in fact I never cleared a track, all I did was keep one track very simple so I can build on top of it in the middle of the song. Once I had built up that second track I then reintroduced the other track to it as a way of getting back into a more intense chorus. It is impossible to clear a track on the RC-30 while the song is playing. I really wish you could clear a whole track as this would make it so much easier to create songs and open a lot of other options. Your second issue I am not totally sure about. if you mean you are struggling to get a nice clean loop then try to make the first loop very simple, so just simple drums or finger plucking, if you try to play something more complex such as heavy strumming then the first loop will sound nasty as it cant overlap properly. You can play more technical loops after that as you can overlap on all loops except the first one. Basically you first loop should intentionally be something that has a very small gap between the last note and the first note on its return to the beginning. Maybe my tutorial will help, see this video Boss RC-30 - How to use both channels properly
ReelfunkyProductions oooh! Now that I saw it again carefully I understood what you did. Very creative. Simple, that's the best creativity. Again congratulations on the video, the atmosphere is great. Regarding my question B) that's not possible don't it? I mean, record the loop, stop recording but not dubbing while playing the loop I just recorded?
maumex Strange. When I press the left pedal the second time my loop pedal keeps playing the loop but the dubbing stops so I can play over the top without recording. What mode do you have your RC-30 in?
ReelfunkyProductions thanx for the quick response! I'll check out the model tonight at home and make a video so as to be more graphic. Thanx in advance!
ReelfunkyProductions hey! I just checked it out... it's a setting ! you can put it to record > overdub > playback (each time you step the left pedal) or record > playback > overdub. I just set it up this way and now it's perfect, much more comfortable, been playing for hours now. Still a pitty that the channel cannot be cleared once playing, if you make a mistake, you lost it...
Hi and thank you from the future me. The song is by Dolly parton and called Jolene. Its quite an old country and western song, not my typical genre of music but i do like this one
did you just have the mic set up to the rc-30 so you could loop the guitar and voice all in one mic? Because I am planning on using one for the vocal output aswell as guitar and was wondering if its good for that as well?
Yeah I used just one mic in this video but usually I plug in a mic and guitar into separate inputs. You can potentially have three mics/instruments plugged into the rc-30 . There is two jack inputs and a mic input.
ReelfunkyProductions okay sweet thank you so much! amazing video and song by the way. I love the simplicity of it as well! Is it fairly easy to use it with a mic and guitar?
hello guys!i want to ask you,how many layers can i use on this loop station?i mean how many phrases can i record and play?for example this guy used at least four layers.can i use more?
You can add as many layers as you like. I think the pedal has a few hours worth of memory recording time, far more than you could ever need for live performing. There is however only two tracks so although you can create as many layers you like they have to be added to track 1 or track 2 and that is where you have get inventive.
If there's anybody on RUclips capable of managing a Motown cover using the RC-30 it's ReelfunkyProductions. please do it man. we all know it'd be a hit and you'd do it justice. know what I'm saying? maybe Smokey Robinson or The Temptations. I doubt you're taking requests from your fans abroad but this would just be so marvelous if you accepted my humble request (or at least considered it)
Hi John . This is my first request i have had so I will do my best to make it happen. Thanks for the watching and the great feedback, very much appreciated.
Oh and yes there was a lot of sun in my eyes, I set it up before the sun was above the hills, by the time i was ready to record he sun had moved above the hills and was directly in my eyes!. Ha ha i will remember next time that the sun changes position quickly.
Two reasons really. Firstly this was about as easy as I could make it without having to carry even more equipment up into the fields, the was no way i could get an amp up there. Secondly I like to show that you can make good music even with a few cheap instruments, i always hear people talking about all all this expensive equipment you need and i feel that puts people off who don't have the money to spend on it. I like to prove you can make good videos and music with not too much money.
+John Smith Are you sure, i only ask because you don't appear to have any content of your own so I'm guessing your not the creative type . You don't even have a profile picture and your profile name is John smith! So are you sure your the right person the decide if it works or not.
nice. guess you are on your own property - a nice farm? cool idea. Definitely the first looper wearing huge boots ever. Nice singing voice. Keep it up.

Oliver G You are right, it is a cheap and very easy to play Yamaha C40, well spotted.
ReelfunkyProductions thought so. A real work horse isn't it. How long does it take you to work on a song like this, from idea to recording? I'm still learning the rc -30
Yeah the guitar is great for taking outdoors camping and such, sounds great but not too worried about the damage.
The idea for a performance comes fairly quickly, i usually just start messing about with songs i already know and i can have the basic idea with an hour
The hard bit is sorting the arrangement, which track to record the sections to, refining the song for loop pedal use like removing bridges or sections that are impossible to fit in an RC-30 loop performance.
Sometime i get lucky and it comes within a couple of hours then other times I have to return to the idea many many times so in some cases can take me a few weeks. I guess on average if I have the time I can get it to a decent standard within 2 weeks of practice (I have a small attention span so my practices are never more than about 30 minutes in one day)
The time it takes me to get the song right, practice it, film/record and edit takes me longer than i care to think about, I wish it was a quicker process as I would love to have many more RC-30 videos.
I'd be grateful if you could listen to it when it's ready !
hey man great uploads!! i want to ask you how you manage to power up the RC-30?
Thanks. The RC-30 can run off batteries. All the Equipment i used in this video was battery operated. Thanks for watching and commenting.
heheh thank you for answering man :) keep going the good work!!
It worked :)
Thank you!
do you neccessarily need a mixing desk in this respect? or you can just attact the loop station to the speakers?tnx
For example:
a) I noticed you changed the rythm in one of the channels while playing the other.
Maybe my tutorial will help, see this video
Boss RC-30 - How to use both channels properly
VERY COOL... what is the name of that song? like that. shared.
ReelfunkyProductions
okay sweet thank you so much! amazing video and song by the way.
There is however only two tracks so although you can create as many layers you like they have to be added to track 1 or track 2 and that is where you have get inventive.
thank you very much for your answer!and great job by the way!like from me!
Also, are you from New Zealand?
you think thats bad, I know for a fact that he will have had the same underkrackers on!
what county are you playin that country smash hit in?nice work
The UK, thank you
If there's anybody on RUclips capable of managing a Motown cover using the RC-30 it's ReelfunkyProductions. please do it man. we all know it'd be a hit and you'd do it justice. know what I'm saying? maybe Smokey Robinson or The Temptations. I doubt you're taking requests from your fans abroad but this would just be so marvelous if you accepted my humble request (or at least considered it)
Hi John . This is my first request i have had so I will do my best to make it happen. Thanks for the watching and the great feedback, very much appreciated.
What tree did you plug into? lol
What for . Boss Rc-30 battery powered. Zoom mic battery powered. Video Cameras battery powered , laptop battery powered. No power tree needed mate.
Oh and yes there was a lot of sun in my eyes, I set it up before the sun was above the hills, by the time i was ready to record he sun had moved above the hills and was directly in my eyes!. Ha ha i will remember next time that the sun changes position quickly.
POR ,favor que musica é essa ?
Hi from the future.
The song is Jolene by dolly parton.
Why you did it with classic guitar?
Two reasons really. Firstly this was about as easy as I could make it without having to carry even more equipment up into the fields, the was no way i could get an amp up there. Secondly I like to show that you can make good music even with a few cheap instruments, i always hear people talking about all all this expensive equipment you need and i feel that puts people off who don't have the money to spend on it. I like to prove you can make good videos and music with not too much money.
Great stuff man , may I ask what is your recording set up aside from the RC30 ?
1. Zoom h2n mic
2. Rc-30
3. Cheap Yamaha nylon guitar
4. Laptop to record the performance
5. Several Nikon dslr cameras
Thanks for watching
so this is called Demonstration???
How did you connect the mic to the rc30? And why did you use a laptop if the mic/looper already record internally?
Ha ha ha, if i could green screen this I would be rich.
It doesn't.
It doesn't what?
Work
+John Smith Are you sure, i only ask because you don't appear to have any content of your own so I'm guessing your not the creative type . You don't even have a profile picture and your profile name is John smith! So are you sure your the right person the decide if it works or not.
