Do NOT use the SSI direct card. It’s a pain in the ass , but go to a bank and set up an account that your SSI can be sent direct deposit. Wayyyyyyyyyyyyy safer than using those cards
Yes, but can't they take your money from SSI before its deposited in your separate direct deposit account? It sounds like a great idea, but it also sounds like an easy thing for thieves to get around.
I only use my direct express card to get cash advances from a bank that I opened an account with to deposit there to go shopping and pay bills. I've never used it to shop for this very reason.
One thing to consider is whether using a different bank account to receive SS or SSI benefits makes it easier for creditors to get access to your money.
Probably the customer service people did that one. They blocked my card back in February and hung on to the rest. They absolutely refuse to send me a new card. Someone should organize a protest to not only make them give us back our money but make social security administration hold them accountable. Just saying though.( As long as the protest remained peaceable)
Oh man just got my ssi because i did not have a bank account they said they will automaticlly send me 1!! Thought was kinda strange. They did send the paper one (thank god) in 3 days. Im closing it n getting my own!!! Sorry this happened to you all thnx 4 the heads up...❤
The same thing just happened to three of my kids that get their money on this card I did not authorize anyone to take their checks I’m worried sick right now because I’m not able to pay rent buy food or pay for my kid’s basic needs one of my kids get a paper check I received that but the money on the card for my other three kids did not come but direct express got it as issued when it never was I have nobody to turn to for help I made a complaint with ftc and my local police department how can social security continue to let this happen any reported fraud should be handled effectively but it’s not their letting these things happen I desperately need help 😢
Direct Express refuses to send statements about account transactions then will not investigate because my account was emptied 30+ days ago. She laughed at me when I said they paid their ATT bill, can't you check it?
To avoid this issue just open up a federal credit union account and when your social security money is deposited into the direct express card just transfer it over to the credit union.
Yeah, Comerica Bank will not help you. You don't actually have a bank account with them, they just provide the cards to DE. It's a loaded prepaid debit card, nothing else.

I live in Pilot Mtn. N.C. it took me till dinner Friday to be able to get any money to pay my bills now Sunday an Monday it's back the same way can't get money I had left after bills off of it 😢

Man I feel for you. I truly believe some of this is an inside job. However I made it a point to never use my direct express card for shopping or pay bills. I go to a bank to get a cash advance to put in my bank account to shop with. That way if something is missing I know exactly how it happened.

Whatever you do never get this card and if you do get rid of it and get a bank account instead.
