I have read this book in Russian. Thomas Mann is one of my favourite writers. You, Germans, should be very proud of your great culture.
I felt so sorry about tragic fate of this great family, especially about Thomas and Antonia Buddenbrooks, even cried over some moments. Such a tragic fall of once great family.

First of all, a film is different to a book. Secondly, most families or dynasties did and do not remain powerful and rich. Times change, political structures change and money changes as well. No need to get sad or cry over it. What goes up has to come down and vice versa. I always fear good times.

Why English? German is also one of the main languages in the world. Along with French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic or Chinese.

@@Corkonia Yesss I know..., I should have learned German when I was young, English is my second language, Portuguese is the main one, but for me English is easier.. and some cities here in Brazil the German also remains as a common language (e.g. Pomerode-SC).

@@eduardolima1227 I love your movies from Brazil. My favorite one was the Central Station (1998). I saw it in Portuguese with Hungarian subtitles in an art cinema in Budapest.

ganz gute schauspielerische Leistungen.
