I'm old enough to remember when drivers like Gary Ormsby, Kenny Burnstien, and Big Daddy Don Garlits, were fighting for the first 260 and 270 MPH passes in the 1/4 mile, using top fuel funny cars and dragsters. My respect, to those who are pushing those boundaries today
Hah hah was about to say the same thing!! Doesn't seem like it's been that long that the top fuelers were breaking into the high 5's. Now they're doing it routinely on blown methanol motors, in door slammers no less!😮
@@danw1955, Hell Tom Bailey run a 5.99 At like 248mph in a tagged and insured car after driving over 1k Miles and an average of under 6.50 in the 1/4 mile at 5 track days

Normal current Promod cars have the valve covers vented into the frame rails at the front of the car, and the catch can is connected to those same frame tubes in the "trunk" area. Smart idea, it gives whatever oil escapes plenty of time to fall out of suspension.

Average is 2000-4000 depending on setup. And they do not have to full rebuild after every run like top fuel. But some nitrous guys have to swap pistons between runs. All depends what happens during the run with the specific power adders.

kris lee yes a Nissan 4cyl can run 6.20 but how many times? I know those cars don’t run that very often. That’s why the record was held by a gm ecotec motor for 3 years before someone broke it. Those cars can’t run that time constantly while these cars are running half a second faster consistently and more reliably then that 4cyl.
How many of these cars have actual Ford or Chevy motors in them? if none, then why make out to be contest between the 2 with cardboard cut out shells?????

I don’t see why they like sitting on the line waiting for the other car to leave way first. Why don’t theses guys practice the tree in qualifying. Taking off 2 seconds after the other car leaves is hairy in the shit down area

There are dynos for them now. Anywhere from 3k-5k depending on setup.

RaspingPompano2 the horsepower and the speeds have tripled since then. Safety and parts preservation are probably the two most common reasons.

It's a light used pretty regularly. Top half pre-stage and bottom half to engage system.
