I have ben trying to decide about adding DXO8 to my photo editing software programs. Your video has helped to push me to adding it to my list. I would definitely use the noise reduction aspect along with the luma curve. The luma curve seems to be a great addition to this program.

    Hi Dave
Interesting update. I love DxO denoise capabiliteis and the automation of lens corrections !!. I love the "Lens softness compensation", this is brilliant. Those are the features DxO Photolab stands out for me. One thing I miss in this suite is the lack of compatibility with the iphone raw files.
One question, why do I have contrast and microcontrast but not fine contrast in my trial version?. Is it for being a trial?

Hi! I am 3 months into photography. I'm on day 10 of my free trial of DXO photolab + film pack. I'm hooked. I will use absolutely for everything about my photos as I really enjoy the results I get in the same package. Money is hard right now but PL8 is enabling me so much to overcome the limitations of my camera to realize my vision, that I'm willing to take the plunge once my trial runs out.

Hi! I have a Canon T7 and I prefer to use the RAW setting because it enables me to customize my photos in more detail, which I love to do. I've been researching all the different photo editing products on line for something more current and there are so many! I began using the DXO 8 Elite free trial option to see if this is something easy to learn and if it could get the job done and so far it has been wonderful (still lots to learn though for sure)! I have a tough time getting my photos to not have the noise issues and DXO is clearing that right up. I came across your tutorial today and saw what you did with the tone curve setting and that will really help me with the lighting and saturation! I look forward to following your tutorials and learning more. Thank you!

Hi Dave! Another stunning video, excellent work. I haven´t used DXO so far. I can imagin to use this SW for denoising and and Lens Softness comp. So far i`m hasitating to buy DXO because I thing it will overload my workflow and make it mor complicated (together with LR, Topaz AI and PS, not to mention TK9). Above that I fear that my hardware ( graphic card) is n´t powerful enogh. But in case of winning DXO I would not hasitate to build it into my workflow.... Greetings from Germany Werner

I always look for your instructional videos. I use right now DXO PL7 Elite as my basic editing software and Topaz Photo AI as a plugin for the denoise, sharpen and Upscaling of my photos. With DXO PL8 Elite I would likely use a lot of the Masking new feature and the Tone curve a lot more instead of the sliders. Again great videos.

I currently use DxO PL6 Elite for pure RAW development. I apply DeepPrime noise reduction and optical corrections. I also use my own camera profiles and make brightness adjustments, mostly with local adjustments. The I output the image as a TIF and the actual editing is done in Photoshop using TK9. I will continue to do this in PL8.

Hello Dave. I was waiting for this video on how you use DXO Photolab Elite. I currently own version 6 and I've always loved their noise reduction technology. I'm not afraid to shoot at high ISO's anymore, since it handles the noise. I use it extensively on my raw files and with TK9, its a one-two punch combo for sure. WIth his newer version, they have improved on many of the features and with the TK9 plugin for Photoshop, this is a now brainer. They've included luminosity masking in such a nice way that it enhances my edits greatly. I wouldn't mind a copy of this newer version myself. I use an Olympus OM-1 first edition mirrorless camera and this DXO really helps me here with the noise reduction. I also shoot with my Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. I currently own Topaz Photo AI too. All these new software packages, which are continuously improving make you want to go out and shoot more and experiment.

Hi Dave, good quick summary of the new features. I'm looking forward to trying PhotoLab 8 Elite on of my iPhone 16 images, correcting some of the computational photography excesses that sometime occurs. Apple Photos is getting better, but I'd like to have a go with PhotoLab. Thanks again for this video.

Keep up the great work, Dave! I would use the DxO Elite software to use the soft focus to improve the parts of my soft images due to my lens. I also like the new feature in the curves to help reduce the saturation. I like contrast in my images so I always have to reduce the saturation. The XD2S is great too!

I,m new to photography and I,m still building up my gear as I get closer to retirement. I,m about to purchase a new m4 Mac soon and will be investing in DXO editing software.I,m not a fan of a subscription model. I have read so many positive reviews on it.I plan firstly to scan my old family photos and edit them whilst learning how to use the software for de noising, touching up damaged photos, upscaling and enlarging alot of old prints some which are blurred. I found from my dad’s years in WW2.I cannot wait…

I currently use photolab6 elite for deepprime xd & lens corrections. Hoping to upgrade BF xd2S. Pity that luminosity masking is still only part of filmpack. Clearview & smart lightning also sometimes used as better than lightroom equivalents. Masking in main reason to keep lightroom as main raw editor

I am a long-time user of DxO PhotoLab and love it! I have two methods of using PL and it is important to stress that it is primarily a RAW processor rather than a complete editing suite. With that in mind, my first method is to do an almost complete edit in PL and then move to PS to refine the image - edit out any distractions, some dodging and burning etc. before exporting as a JPEG or finalise for printing. The second, and one I tend to use nowadays, is to use PL for all optical corrections and noise reduction only and then export the DNG file to PS. There I do minimum corrections in ACR and then open in PS and make full use of the TX9 Multi Mask and CX Panels. My workflow is almost exclusively based upon Dave’s TX Friday tutorials, which have evolved over the years, and I tend to learn something new every week. In sum PL is a fantastic RAW editor with some best-in-class features.

Photolab 8 Elite looks to be a great improvement from previous versions, with the Noise Reduction XD2S especially looking good. The other features you have also described would assist me in my editing, especially the compare mode with the Tone Picker and Hue mask with associated adjustment's. Keep the videos coming. Very nice overview. I am currently on Photolab 5 and am looking to upgrade to 8 (which is a full-price upgrade), along with upgrading FilmPack 6 and ViewPoint 3. The plan is to use these DxO products as my primary image editing system. I am impressed with the new features, control and image quality in DxO products and will move away from using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop except for some clean-up or AI work (until DxO catches up there). I look forward to going back through almost 25 years of images to re-edit the best of them and to see what more I can bring out of them. I'm also excited to shoot a bit more than I have been lately, knowing that DxO Photolab and its other software will help me get the most possible out of my kit.

I would use DXO photolab 8 elite to post process all my photos on my journey to launch my first photography business and from then on this would be my post processing and editing program which i would use. I am currently on 30 day trial and I love using the LUT's the DXO filmpack presets and every tiny bit of setting it allows which honestly gives me very high quality images. The denoising most of the time makes the image feel very natural which wasn't the case in lightroom for example, another reason I want to use this program for my plans. I'm getting used to the masking in this software more and more each day, which is not as bad as people make it out to be under some videos you just have to learn that it works differently than in lightroom, but it's almost as powerful and well made.
Grateful for the opportunity to win this software and I hope it's still not too late!

Hey, just turned back to photography with a Lumix S5. Would love to use Photolab for creating HDR Pictures from Exposure bracketing. It would also allow me to shot faster pictures in the dark as the noise reduction looks superior. And the best would be to cancel the tough monthly payment on LRC.

I have version 7 Elite (and previous versions), with the Nik 7 plugins I would like to switch to the DXO PHOTOLAB 8 ELITE editing plans to have a truly effective and essential DAM module for the new functions I like them but I still find version 7 really great. What you are sorry about is that they still have not integrated the masks like in NIK and the same thing for the language... ITALIAN. Your guides on Nik are great.

Apparently, as photographers age they seem to take up bird photography and in my situation that seems to be the case. So for me, the power of DXO 8 Elite for processing is the incredible noise reduction and the subtle tweak to lens sharpness often needed for bird photography as you demonstrated in this video. But not only that, being able to select and enhance slithers of colours easily would make processing with DXO a joy, not unlike the joy of editing with Dave Kelly!!

As storm/weather hobbyist photographer need Something pure like PL8 which gives natural colours looks without haloing and is easy to use or as complicated to use as you want. Also best in the business Nose reduction for nocturnal storms is essential.Just slight enhancements and PL8 excels for beginners or pros no matter how demanding your work flow.

Thanks Dave! Appreciate the video. How I would use DXO Photolab 8 would be as follows: Let's say I am working in Photoshop and I would like to make a contrast or curve adjustment to a specific portion of my image without affecting the color saturation globally, I could use this program to accomplish this task easily by using the luminosity curve mode. This is a lot easier to do in this in DXO Photolab 8 Elite compared to say PS where I would most likely need to create an adjustment layer to reduce saturation in the areas that got overcooked by manipulating the RGB curve only.

Currently using PL7 Elite and trialling PL8 as a plugin to Lightroom to edit mainly birding images, often in low light and high ISO, which makes best Noise reduction critical. Mainly shooting with a Fuji X-H2 so an Xtrans processor so looking forward to XD2S coming on board. In the meantime I find that combining XD Deep Prime AND lens softness compensation works better than in PL7. Also greatly appreciate the new loupe and continue to value the lens profile distortion correction far superior to LR for Fujifilm files.
