  • In this episode of We Are Adventure Riders, we arrive in ALBANIA!
After the first nights camp on the shore of Lake Shkodër and an interesting encounter with a local shepherd (8am moonshine anyone..?!), we rode up into the Albanian Alps to the town of Theth for some hiking. We hiked towards Valbone, but stopped at the half way point where there is the most incredible viewpoint at the very top of a peak, giving 360 views of the stunning mountains of Northern Albania!.
Upon leaving Theth, we took a different "road" back down to Shkoder which was off road all the way and we later learned was actually part of the Trans Euro Trail (TET)! Riding the TET 2up with a fully loaded 1200GSA was very challenging, but we really worked as a team and had the best day ever - made some new riding friends, Marc and Lisa from Germany, who we rode with all day and found out they are also heading to Central Asia around the same time as us! Expect to see more of them in future videos!
Join us next time as the adventure continues in Albania, but takes a turn for the worse as Lucie ends up in an ambulance...!!

Loving your journey so far… I did some two up TET in the in UK on a GS and it’s not easy. Respect. I will head East in years time.

Inspirational. Ive got a cb500x rally raid. I love off roading as mucb as i can in the Uk (there isnt much legally). I'm planning to ride to France very soon.
I've found 2 up ridint with my partner (who is an amazing pillion) very challenging. Maybe because your gs is mucn bigger and can take it but i think I'll have to stick to heavy offroading on my own for now. I'm trying to convince her to get her own bike so we can enjoy I together. Awsome job guys

      Thanks, Tom!
Good work giving it a go 2up. I would like to try it on a smaller bike for comparison. The GS is okay when you have momentum and the track isn't too rocky/loose/steep, because the centre of gravity is low and it has lots of power. But as soon as you slow down too much or lose balance, you feel all that weight and thats when we would fall over...
I've been trying some off roading in the UK also, just me though. I did some of the TET around Somerset and Wales - great fun, but some of it was a bit much for such a big bike haha

Nice video. Love how you did the music. Well done. You'll get more comfortable on the bike the more you ride. It looks pretty heavy with all the gear and a passenger.

Cheers, Stan! The bike+luggage+riders is almost 500kg... Its some serious weight to be lugging up these rocky mountain roads!

fantastic work smashing that road on a big bike, 2 up! if you seen some serious 4wd enthusiasts on that road then this is defo the same one i took last year, and at the start, had some dudes on enduro kms laugh at me (Africa twin) saying there's no chance. smashed it and glad you guys did too!!!

Kudos that you approached the Theth-Offroad-Section with two persons on the bike! I tried one offroad section of 10km in Zakopane, Poland with a pillion passenger and found it very hard to do.

I'd defo recommend "cool covers" seat covers guys, small investment, twice as comfy as extortionate aftermarket seats and really do keep your behind cooler !!! 😀

We could have used something like this as we rode through the deserts of the middle east! But we are just reaching the cooler climates of East Africa.

You make some amazing films from your trip. I love the style and you guys are extremely good at editing. Keep up this quality and your channel will grow quickly. It is extremely difficult to build a youtube channel, I have been posting videos for 4 years, without any great success. I enjoy making films so I do it as a nice hobby. I quickly became a fan and subscriber. Drive safely. Greetings Kingofarctic

Thanks so much for this comment - it's a real boost for us and means a lot! New videos will keep coming, but it's difficult to find time for editing while on the road, so uploads may be a bit random!

We were taken to an underground museum in the main square of Tirana showing the old secret police memorabilia! Sorry about your spill...the tarmac used looks like the Greek stuff with added concrete to stop it flowing the heat. When it rains it turns to soap....

      Hi Krzysztof!
      Thanks a lot dude 😎
I can't recall exactly where that camp was, it was a wild camp near a river, but it was somewhere near Mushaj Lekaj just about of Theth on the gravel road.

FOLKS. I enjoying your journey. I am heading down through Greece into Turkey starting 28 april from uk..
Which way to go is the question. Can you tell me was it possible to by bike insurance going into Montegegro and Albania. Uk insurance does not cover these areas, even the 11klm 9.5 minute journey through Bosnia as you ride down through Croatia..I am 81 now and I need things to be as easy as possible.
If I cannot get insuranhce ,it will be onto the ferry in Ancona , Italy.
    take care
    cheers

What suits are you wearing ? Waterproof , lightweight ?

    • @we.are.adventure.riders
      @we.are.adventure.riders  Год назад

Hey Kevin. We wear the Held Carese II jacket with Torno pants - they are multi season with a zip in or over the top waterproof layer - the main jacket/pants have lots of vents. Not super lightlight, but not too heavy - a good compromise.
