Thanks for breaking it down Jay! My take away today is the mock up tip - using same/similar to what best sellers are using. Makes total sense and my head hurts way less (constantly looking for new original mock ups is frustrating and exhausting!) I spent some time in Belize in the 90's - could not have found a T-shirt with BELIZE on it, even if I tried...was such a hidden gem. The reef was still healthy and beautiful. This fellow Canadian loved your channel before you moved, love it even more knowing you are living your best life and working to help save the reef.
We're not helping with reef efforts just yet (aside from a one-time donation), but it's been on the list now for a while, so we're excited to get moving on it! We love Belize too! And yes - everyone always overthinks the "need awesome mockups" bit - yes they need to be awesome, but that doesn't always need to mean "different". Your designs are what need to bring the value :) Thanks so much for the comment!!
More solid advice! Commenting for algorithm AND because your videos are always so genuine. Would love to see progress updates from your new shop (whatever you can share) as you’re starting over and putting these strategies into play.
Hey Jay, thanks for putting in the hard work and giving us all this valuable information! I’m a graphic designer going on 20 years in the biz and am looking to transition to solo entrepreneur, so your background resonates with me! Also I’m a big fan of Belize. Was there scuba diving off Caye Cauker 20 years ago and loved it. Keep up the good work!
Thanks so much for the comment!! Belize is a special place. Can't believe we're coming up on 4 months on Caye Caulker already.. Thanks for watching and glad it resonates man!
Hi Jay! Another great video! 🎉 I am 15 months into my Etsy journey with 200+ sales and 80 reviews. I have 300 listings and keep adding. I always hear people say the first 100 sales are the hardest. I felt that way about my first 200. 😂 I am leary of using mockups that the big shops use because of the design/mockup theft that happens on Temu resulting in Etsy shops being shut down. 😢 I wish Etsy would use real people instead of Bots to assess shops.
Jay, I'm still getting ready to launch on Etsy, and haven't yet because I don't want to look like the newbie to potential customers. Is it possible to prep and build multiple listings and then publish them all at the same time (say 40 of them)?
Definitely depends! So one general store that targets mostly men i use flatlays for. In another niched shop, i use a 'lifestyle' (model) mockup for the main image and then flatlays for the rest. In another niched shop, the first image is a model mockup, but it's relatively flat and zoomed in if that makes sense, and the rest are all lifestyle mockups to illustrate the shirt in use and resonate emotionally with the women it's targeting. So: this definitely depends on your niche and Ideal Customer (my free workbook should help), but in ALL cases, you need to showcase the design in a way that looks awesome and is easy to understand and resonate with immediately. Hope this helps - great question & good eye!
Currently sitting at 3 sales, 3 five star reviews, at 3 months in. Showing up 1 to 2 hours a day, longer on weekends. Man its a grind and most days I dont know if what success I've had is realistic, or if I should have more success from 3 months in
Assuming you've got more than 50 or so listings, 3 months at only 3 sales to me means something is broken 100%. 1 to 2 hours a day of the same broken system won't fix anything. Look at the top sellers in your niche. Study them all (not just one shop) until you start to see a pattern. Is it the design aesthetic? Is it the niche itself, like maybe you've pigeon-holed yourself too deep? Maybe your designs just aren't good enough? Or maybe you're trying too much to be too similar which will make it hard for your items to catch eyes and sales if you're competing with the same listings with 100s of reviews and good sales velocity. Hope something here resonates!
I dont think any of the points relate to my store. Not saying my designs are the best or anything, but maybe it could be my niche is seasonal. My store name is HikeVibes if you want to take a look. That would be really appreciated
Dog training! You click to mark before delivering the treat - there clicks for emphasis on certain words here 😂😂 & just finished the replay w/ Sarah - took a couple notes on that one 🙏🏼
You didn't mention anything about mastering a niche, or using research tools to see what competitors are doing or creating products that are actually being searched for. all sounded a bit fluffy to me. sorry if you did mention this stuff, i didn't make it all the way through.
I'm sorry to hear that you found it "fluffy". These are the fundamentals, so I encourage you to try to have a bit more of an attention span. There's so much more to winning on Etsy than mastering a niche, and you don't even need the tools to see what competitors are doing if you know what you're looking for. All of that is moot though if your designs aren't good enough and you don't have the fundamentals down. Thanks for the comment!

Keep researching so your new items sell! Congrats on the review rate! 80/200~ is HUGE!

Absolutely! Though I wouldn’t wait :)
Noticed on the shops you mentioned they are using flat mocks rather then models. Have you seen this be the case with your success?

I added a reply with my store link but looks like the comment was deleted??
@@DMArts88 I don't think RUclips allows links :(
Do you think the problem is any of what i mentioned?

I sent you a dm on Facebook a few days back. RUclips is being weird so i couldn't give shop name ether

Good video. To bad all people only give tips for people that already get sells. The hard part is to get sells with 0 reviews.
Very true! Hopefully this will help. Thanks for watching!
Rocket surgery 😊
😂 brain science & rocket surgery!
Glad you caught that ;)
You give such great advice, Jay! Thank you so much.
