  • We get our first look at the brand new Roland LX708, a beautiful upright digital piano featuring their most advanced tone modelling technology. Find out more here: www.pmtonline.co.uk/roland-lx...
    The LX708 is the flagship model in Roland’s new 700 series, a feature packed digital piano that looks stylish, and offers the authentic feel and sound of an acoustic grand piano, thanks to it’s newly designed keyboard action and Roland’s most advanced tone modelling engine to date. The new PureAcoustic engine which is at the heart of the 700 series, now produces two completely separate piano models to choose from, there’s Roland’s classic European grand which offers those familiar, deep, warm tonal characteristics, and then there’s a new American grand model which contrasts this by emphasising brightness and clarity.
    Where the PureAcoustic modelling differs from Roland’s SuperNatural engine, is that when generating a sound, it also takes into account the virtual room that the piano is placed in. For example, a piano would sound completely different played in a room with stone walls, when compared to a room with wooden walls, and the PureAcoustic ambience modelling replicates these reflections and reverberations and adds them to the piano sound.This is incorporated into another new feature called My Stage, which allows you to emulate the ambience of your favourite venue to play in, with choices for rooms such as a studio, a stone hall, a wooden hall or a cathedral amongst others, and this really does bring an extra layer of depth, realism and versatility to the piano’s sound.
    Based on the feel of a concert grand piano, the LX708 features Roland’s Hybrid Grand keyboard which a completely new design when compared to the PHA keyboard found on other models. It still features 88 notes with ebony and ivory feel and escapement action, but the keys themselves have been significantly lengthened. This extra length means that the pivot point of the key sits further back, allowing pianists to playing further into the keys with more control, and a redesigned hammer action allows for faster repetition of notes.
    Along with the re-designed keyboard is a newly designed cabinet, featuring one piece side panels and added height to compete the authentic acoustic upright look. It looks very elegant here in polished black, but it’s also available in either polished white or charcoal to suit your taste and decor. There’s an adjustable music rest with pop up music holders, a lid can be opened or closed to subtly change the piano’s acoustic tone, and the design of the control panel takes it’s cue from Roland’s award winning FP90, with a simple, intuitive layout and backlight buttons.To deliver the authentic sound of a acoustic upright, the LX708’s cabinet houses a powerful, cleverly designed projection system comprised of 8 speakers, which are split into 4 pairs, with each pair carefully positioned and optimised so they can deliver accurate sound reproduction across the pianos entire dynamic range. This results in a rich piano tone across the whole frequency spectrum, that will really fill a room with it’s a dynamic, inspiring sound that you just can’t get from smaller digital pianos.
    As you might expect on a piano like this, the LX708 has all of the standard features you’d need such as transpose, keyboard split, dual tones and twin piano modes. And in addition to the two main piano sounds, there’s over 300 onboard tones to choose from including Electric Pianos, Strings, Organs and a full General MIDI soundset. There’s also handy practice features such as a built in metronome and a song recorder, which allows you to record your playing or play back one of the LX708’s huge selection of onboard songs, scales and lessons.There’s connections for 2 pairs of headphones, so it’s ideal for silent duetting, 1/4” jack stereo outputs and USB connectivity for either connecting to your computer or playing back WAV audio files through the piano’s speakers from a memory stick. It’s also Bluetooth compatible, allowing you to stream audio from your phone to play along with, or to connect to your tablet for use with Roland’s Piano Everyday app.
    Not only that, the app also allows for control over the editing and tonal parameters of the piano, so you can tweak sounds in real time by using the larger touch screen of your tablet, instead of using the piano’s slightly more fiddly screen and interface.

    Can you use USB-hos to get Music from a computer/iPad to get the sound from the piano speakers ie does it have USB audio interface? This would be great if you gave an iPad Pro that doesn’t have a 3,5mm jack to connect to the piano line-in.

    Is CA99 better or this?

    • @cresshead
      @cresshead 3 года назад

      depends what you mean by better and in which parts are 'better or worse'
      the key action might on the ca 99 has longer keys than the roland but not full length liker the casio GP 510
      the Ca99 has a wooden sound board on the back but the roland has 8 speakers and haptic feedback on the keys..
      the sounds of the pianos on the roland are based on the steinway piano sound (american and german)
      the sounds of the pianos on the ca99 are based on the kawai piano sound
      the sounds of the pianos on the casio gp510 are based on the steinway, bechstein and bosendorfer piano sound
      (yamaha digital mimic yamaha's btw)
      the roland's shape and design look like a upright piano, the ca99 is not as tall.
      the roland does not have any midi din ports but does have usb ports and bluetooth over usb
      to change sounds on the roland you have physical buttons in front of you
      to change sounds on the ca99 you have a phone like touch screen on the far left side... you have to stop playing to change a sound as you need to look at the screen and then put your finger on the right spot to change sound
      on the casio it has physical; buttons on the left and a lcd display
      on the roland the buttons are real
      on the ca 99 they are virtual via a touch screen... and this turns off after a certain time.. so ' melt away from view'
      on the casio gp 510 the buttons are real
      not easy is it?
      ..i'm in same boat!

      @@YeremyTurcios all depends on what the priorities are at the top of YOUR list?
      particular piano sound
      key build/action
      sound in the room form the speakers
      are you doing to use it to control a software piano on your mac/pc

    • @YeremyTurcios
      @YeremyTurcios 3 года назад +1

      @@cresshead Those are all priorities in my list :) I'm looking for a digital piano to continue to learn challenging classical pieces, so action, piano sound, and speakers, is important but I also plan to use it to control EastWest/Native Instruments software. I'm debating between this Roland LX708 and the Kawai CA99, but the Casio GP 510 is also another great choice. I haven't heard much about the Yamaha CLP785. I'll go and try them all out. I guess having many great options is a good thing, it's a great time to buy a digital piano.

  • @gregsullivan7408

    What a boring, muted, drab sound - the FP140 sounds much brighter and clearer to me: ruclips.net/video/7nsvWd4Qiqc/видео.html
    I believe the FP140, being much older, used the older SuperNatural tech which combined sampling and modelling, whereas this LX series uses pure modelling. I think Roland should just accept that sampling sounds superior, and switch to a sampling-centric approach.
