  • Travelling in France is so much more than drinking red wine under the Eiffel Tower in Paris or champagne on a beach in Marseille. The French countryside has a charm like no other, and the town of Confolens is no exception. From its cobble stone streets to its backyard gardens, Confolens is a place where everyone is welcome and the locals always make you feel at home. So come sit along la Vienne river with me and let me tell you about this little town with a big wide world attitude.
If you are interested in visiting for the famous dance festival, the Festival de Confolens you can find more information here: www.festivaldeconfolens.com/

I lived in Confolens, and I left the town because at 7PM even the bars are closed and it is completely dead. Only the week of the yearly dance festival in August is really nice.

I just found out recently this is my ancestral "home town", so I looked to see what touristy things I might do if we visit Confolens on our trip to France next year. Thanks for doing this video!

I live in confolens (just searched videos of it on RUclips to see if I could spot my house hehehe) and it’s great. It’s a very nice community and everyone Here is very friendly. There are also many great little quiet spots where i like to read/write/draw (like pretty hidden places). I would really recommend you come and visited!

@@0Iive That's awesome! Unfortunately COVID has derailed a lot of travel plans for the time being. But I still very much want to visit France sometime within the next 2 years, and my brother would never forgive me if I didn't visit Confolens! One thing I want to do is see if I can find the grave of my ancestor from the early 1600's. Morbid I know, but I still want to see it.

@@abubaseet oh I’m sorry to hear that covid has ruined your plans :( but hopefully you can still make it soon :D (also, for a mini walk, I would recommend going up a little alleyway called ‘ste catherine’, it takes you up a small hill at the top of which you can see the whole town. I love to sit up there and watch the sun rise!) also I apologise if my English is bad but I checked it with my mother so it should be fine hehe

Well if you like towns where small businesses are constantly dying, and people never go anywhere then yeah sure, go to confolens. Lived there for a number of years so know what I'm talking about 👍

Well, we bought a house in Confolens in 2010, right on the river. Love it there.
I wonder when you lived in Confolens. It has changed a lot since we bought.
The fact is, that now, there are people from all over the world living in Confolens. After the Brits, it is the New Zealanders who have discovered it, and Australians.
The open air concerts are since we bought, and there is also a farmers market every Thursday where you can eat as well. And other music venues as well. And there is a weekly pool competition at the cafe Cafeteria.
Our local corner shop changed hands and has some of the best cheeses we have tasted.
We have two excellent supermarkets in Lidl and Intermarche. Both have expended in recent years.
You remember that big house with the raised garden in the centre of town that was abandoned and derelict? Well, a NZ couple bought it and did a full renovation, and it is now a beautiful centrepiece.
The council is very proactive, and when you see the work, you are happy to pay your local taxes. We have just had a lot of streets cobbled and taken back to how it used to be. It is a walking friendly place with a central square with a cafe on it.
We are in lockdown here now, in Australia. Otherwise we would have left for France already. And returned only in October or November.

      Have holiday home there.
The people are so friendly and patient and life in general is at a slower pace.
Two suggestions, learn a few words of French and don’t pick the wild flowers.
