Wow! What an awesome chair to find by the side of the road! And you did a beautiful job on your upholstery project! Now if I could only find a pair of bergere chairs by the trash in my town, I would be a happy camper! Thanks for sharing your fun project!
Thank you, what an intricate project you took on, you are the right person for it. You are patient and purposeful great personality to have facing difficult tasks. Simply luxurious piece of furniture.
My grandmother has done upholstery herself and when she comes to a project that needs to be reupholstered. When the frame is completely exposed she fills the previous work with either wood putty, matchsticks with glue, toothpicks with glue, or wooden dowels / pin dowels with glue
Thank you very much. I have been looking for a clear concise explanation of how to recover a similar chair...this is the best vid I have viewed so far,. Very informative and detailed.
I love this. Trash to treasure is my favorite. I recently found a 1890s’ish Victorian style sofa tossed out and am working on it now. The frame is in terrible shape. Yours looks amazing!! Can’t wait to finish breathing new life in my trash find. It’s slowly coming together.
You did a really great job with this chair. Watching you re-work this chair reminded me of my mother and all of the furniture that she reupholstered for our home when I was a teenager. Thanks for your informative and interesting video. :-)
Thank you so much for your video of reupholstering your chair and the patient description of the process. You mentioned during the video, problems that you encountered with tack holes from earlier workings. I don't know whether you approve of or have tried this, but in the past I have used PVA wood glue spread into the holes to seal then, or hide glue if working on a period piece to achieve a sympathetic repair. Larger holes or cracks can be filled with glue mixed with sawdust of an appropriate wood type to create a bond or fill the void. Moz...
Fantastic instructional video...I learned a great deal. Thank you for presenting this. I wish I could say that I love the fabric choice, but that's just my personal taste. The leather looks amazing!!
Lovely restoration! I have the exact same sewing machine, which I had bought last year from a thrift store. I don't know why, just felt like sharing.😀😀😀
Really a remarkable transition. Your skills are fantastic--much experience behind them, I'm sure. I like the addition of the top cushion--nice color scheme. Thanks for making such a great video of your project.
Looks lovely. It makes me wonder why people throw out stuff like this. Funny I was thinking walnut too but antiques are my sister and late mothers business I just picked up bits along the way. I couldn't have left a gorgeous thing like this either. Your cat is dying to get involved!
Pretty long film. I must say that I realy admire not only this beautiful wooden thing but also your patience while watching how you are dealing with it. Best regards from Poland
Given the color scheme chosen, and tone of the wood, I think the upholstery tacks were the appropriate choice for this piece. Sure, a double welt could have been used, or even cording, but there isn't anything about furniture tacks that ISN'T in keeping with a bergere. Job well done! : )
I am quite excited to see your video. You were very concise and clear in your instructions. I do have one question: at 46:40 when you were struggling with that batting and padding, why would you not turn the chair so the batting would lay flat and permit gravity to help you? Is it because it is a chaise and therefore long in length? I saw a rather lovely upholstered chair for $10 at a local thrift shop which I did not buy because I did not know how to upholster, but after seeing your video I am excited and know I can do it. My first piece of stained glass after the beginner class had approximately 150 pieces and turned out beautifully. What a joy to create like this! Thank you so much for making the video and then sharing it? I will be back at that thrift shop on Monday to see if it is still there. I am thinking navy leather. My sewing machine does sew leather.
You did wonderful work, and an amazingly thorough job. You also did an excellent job with the video and instructions. Thank you so much for making this. It's unfortunate that you had to use such a strange combination of fabrics and colors for this nice chaise longue. Did you see any markings? It looks like it could be Henredon, perhaps?
Love this.. and love the fact that you are using an old Singer sewing machine. My mom handed down her machine to me and I wouldn't trade it for anything.. it's all metal. I'm encouraged to see you use your machine on leather, what size needle are you using.. 16?
I'm not a fan of the cushion. The rich color of the leather is fantastic with the wood. Maybe if the cushion had had the same golden/mango/yellow tone it could have worked but honestly...you should have gone for the leather cushion :/ More importantly, what idiot gets rid of a beautiful piece of furniture like that!?!?!? The leather work is nicely done...I'm going go drive around now and look for beautiful antique furniture being thrown away!
Oh, I love your finished chair, the fabric is perfect! I have wanted to learn upholstery for so long....how I wish you were at our community college! With fabric cushion, you have the option of changing the color and design for whatever particular room or house the chair will grace. Have you written a HOW TO book or have you made a commercial dvd for beginners? THANK YOU for this tutorial/shared experience!
Man, did you ever get lucky,..! I ve been wanting something like that,.. Hey where are you located? I have a project, of my own, I just purchased a Victorian type of chair for 15.00 from good will, and i have to figure out how to attach it to my walker,..!
Maybe you added an overstuffed cushion for a reason,,, the 🙀 and you obviously had some material left over from the footstool but to be honest you did an absolutely amazing job of reupholstering the chair(the throw awayers would be gutted they threw it) but I have to agree with other comments, the cushion material detracts from your beautiful leather, please make another cushion and add to another vid, thank you
Once you take off the old fabric and such, did you add any extra padding, and are you supposed to every time a piece is reupholstered, just to make more fluffy for new wear and tear?
Please tell me the style of this chair if you know it, I just found a chair like this and I wanted to find out the date to which this style was created.. Thank you for your time.
Are you are a professional or did you just figure this out on your own? How many have you ever done approximately?... l asked because I want to do this as a first timer and you did a great job by the way!!!
Well Mrs.That was an amazing video you shared. The patience and care taken to put new life in that old lovely piece of furniture.I have two questions. What model is the old Singer machine and how many hours did it take for the project? Thanks again for sharing, well done and entertaining.
Great work and what a find! I'm not really a fan of the fabric for the seat cushion. I would of went all leather. But it's your chair and your choice. :-)
I love the help, delightful calming video! Ready for a scratch, brilliant. Is that a medical tool, for holding the tack? Thanks for showing me your great art work..
10:34-12:00, for an example is very difficult to understand. A lot of detail is described but just a still picture is shown without pointing to what you mean. Maybe I have to be much more experienced at upholstery to comprehend certain aspects of this process.
Im new at this...when reupholstering a chair, do you want to update everything together or leave the good layers on? does that change the value? i dont want to ruin the antique part of it.
If the inside layers are still good and clean, use them. If they are not, there is no harm in using new material. The old materials are usually of better quality, hence keep them if possible. And things like horsehair are very nice but hardly available. Keep if they are okay.
Would you mind telling me the model # on your singer sewing machine? It is not a 306 and it not a 401 but I can't quite read that number below the badge with a loop on it.lol- my best guess starts with a 3 ? Doesn't really matter, but i am curious. they were all wonderful. Some sold better than others because of labor strikes after ww2. they will outlive our great Grandchildren it they don't get put in the basement, and they are so strong.Judging from your work, you would never use a sewing machine that couldn't get it done right
I cannot believe anyone would sit that out at the curb! Beautiful piece and finished work.
A beautiful piece and deserving of a good home. Thank you for taking it off the street and giving it a new lease of life. Well done on every level!
Your cat is the star. Love that it's there encouraging you all the way.
Your cat is hysterical trying to help you that is so cute and funny she's doing her best
Wow! What an awesome chair to find by the side of the road! And you did a beautiful job on your upholstery project! Now if I could only find a pair of bergere chairs by the trash in my town, I would be a happy camper! Thanks for sharing your fun project!
You have the most adorable helper esp at the 40 min. lol. Thanks for the helpful video.
Love the chair! You did good! I'm not a fan of decorative nails but to each his own. What a great find!!! You are blessed!
I'm not even halfway through the video. But I love your cat, and he looked like he was doing his best to be very helpful.
I appreciate your instruction and that is why you made the video as to those that criticized your materials they do not have to use the same
Thank you very much. I have been looking for a clear concise explanation of how to recover a similar chair...this is the best vid I have viewed so far,. Very informative and detailed.

You’re a great teacher! Wow! You did an amazing job!❤❤❤❤
Great work, awesome cat, thanks for the video!
Gorgeous! I am so thankful that people make these videos. It makes my taking on of new projects more likely.
I commend you highly for salvaging a beautiful piece of furniture. I for one am disgusted by our throwaway culture. Brava😊👏

Kitty-cat steals the show! I ended up watching the kitty more than the demonstration! had to rewind several times. LOL! Love it.
Love the new chair. And also love your cat- soooooo cute !!!!!!!!
Thank you for the great video and your cat is adorable.
Thank you for sharing this process in such depth.
This was great! There were a few terms I didn't know, but hopefully I will as I learn more about reupholstery. You did a fantastic job.
Fantastic instructional video...I learned a great deal. Thank you for presenting this. I wish I could say that I love the fabric choice, but that's just my personal taste. The leather looks amazing!!

While lengthy...I must say I found it very thorough.
thanks!
Pretty long film. I must say that I realy admire not only this beautiful wooden thing but also your patience while watching how you are dealing with it. Best regards from Poland
You did an amazing job. The difference in those tacks would have drove me crazy
Bravo! Very informative, and a beautiful outcome. Wish I could come study with you!
Way to go!! Looks great. It's good for me to see how much work goes into a project like this.

Beautiful! Awesome demo! Thank you for your time!
AMAZING TECHNIQUE AND REAL SKILL!!
Luv that chair, wish I'd found that.
You did a wonderful job!
Love the chair. Your cat is too cute that it distracted me from the project. I was more of, awwwe whenever the cat reappeared.

Great video. Thank you. I used to be a dental assistant and don't remember hemostats being magnetized. :)
What a phenomenal job
Great job, it looks fantastic!
Beautiful work. I'm not a fan of the color choice, but I can certainly appreciate all the hard work up into this project
Loved your work....your cat is adorable...
AWESOME video!! Thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge and skill!
Very nicely done 🌷🌷
OMG!!! What a score, the things people will throw away. 🤦♀️🙄
I would have found a match leather for the cushion. Its nice as is but would be so wonderful with the leather cushion.
I agree
Horsehair? Probably?
It’s interesting how you are passing through the historic layers.
“Like a Christmas gift,” nice way of expressing it.
Beautiful job.
This is a great video.
Nice to have someone to help tuck the fabric in I guess.
So nice thank you for sharing very nice. Bronx N.Y

To each their own, the color is her own preference. She did an amazing job. You can do it in your own color palette of your choice. :)
I find a very cute tub chair at my local thrift store, would you guys take a look at it and see if you recognize it? The is a wonderful find...
Oh, I love your finished chair, the fabric is perfect! I have wanted to learn upholstery for so long....how I wish you were at our community college! With fabric cushion, you have the option of changing the color and design for whatever particular room or house the chair will grace.

Love the kitty!!!
I love it, but the patterned cushion doesn't seem to quite match. Other than that, the leather is lovely.
Really good tutorial!
Knowledgeable ! Thanks for video cat creeped me out though

How do you do when the chair has some kind of pins close to each other at the back and on the arms?
Fabulous!
lOVE THE CHAIR
I love your chair! I will need advice from you?Great job.
Would wood filler be ok to fill in holes from the tacks used in previous upholstery?
Are you are a professional or did you just figure this out on your own? How many have you ever done approximately?... l asked because I want to do this as a first timer and you did a great job by the way!!!

Very nice! Love the color of the leather and gimp together. Too bad about the tacks! Will there be a part 2?
Part 2? What would that consist of? Sitting on the chair? My fantasy is to change that damn cushion. But that chair is done.
Holes can be drilled oversize, filled with a dowel, and then levelled.
stunning.....
Great work and what a find! I'm not really a fan of the fabric for the seat cushion. I would of went all leather. But it's your chair and your choice. :-)

Beautiful chair! I think we had a couch that was the same design. Do you have any idea who the maker was?
Im new at this...when reupholstering a chair, do you want to update everything together or leave the good layers on? does that change the value? i dont want to ruin the antique part of it.
