Good to know about the Golden Spoon! Seen it on Libro and had not heard a thing from anyone about it! Marketing makes it sound more thrillery but that didn't quite fit right with the Bake-off challenge vibes it was throwing. Thank you! Will still be reading it, but adjusting expectations slightly. My cat yells at me too, but never with the audacity of having food on her face too 🤣🤣

I loved the Golden Spoon. I am a mystery and Bake Off girlie, so it was so me. I think expectations ruin reading experiences for so many people, so they need to either go in cold with an open mind or find recommendation sources like you so that they know what they are getting into.
Also, I love those peach rings and the cola bottles 😋
I agree that expectations can really ruin a book for someone. I definitely think a lot of people equate a mystery and a thriller and they’re just really not the same thing.

I found Granny's Got a Gun last month. I agree. I chose it for a cozy reading group's scavenger hunt prompt for "elderly sleuth". It's a fun quick read. I've been finding some great reads via Kindle Unlimited. Another fun elderly sleuth book I found was The Three Dahlia's by Katy Watson, first in a series. Multiple POVs between three actresses playing the same female sleuth character at different times.

@@oliviareadsalatte One more recommendation if you don't mind in sci fi if you like political intrigue. It's only on KU for now. First book is Astray by Jenny Schwartz. I'm reading the 2nd one now. I'd love to buy these in paperback (high praise from me) but not available currently. I was very surprised how good the 1st was and virtually unknown.

Ugh the spider story reminds me of when i lived on the 8th floor of an apartment building, and i had a frap i was drinking, sitting on my window sill while i was reading, and i went and took a sip and felt what i thought was paper (maybe leftover from taking the wrap off the straw earlier), and for some reason i spit my entire sip out onto the floor. And i looked down, and theres a black ball in the spit out drink, and after a couple seconds it UNRAVELS, AND ITS A GOD DAMN SPIDER.
I cannot tell you the fear that entered my body. This was also, the first and only spider I'd seen in my room in the 5 years i lived there, because most spiders dont go up to the 8th floor.

🍵this was such a lovely, wholesome video! I don't normally read 'cosy mysteries' but you've made me want to pick one up now. I have gotten a lot more into 'cosy fantasy' after reading 'Legends and Lattes' and 'Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faerie'. (would highly recommend both) I also just finished 'Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow' by Gabrielle Zevin which was emotionally devastating so I could use a fun mystery book haha.

I tend to do more weekday afternoons than I do weekends, but I try to switch up the specific day! Usually it’ll fall on a Monday or Wednesday!
