Its not better than discus. You can use that for gimmick builds to stack damage reduction. Literally the only talisman more useless than stardust is lords bestowal.
My level 9 int/faith build is eating so good post-dlc, now she's got max cast speed, a catalyst that can cast sorceries and incantations, and she can teleport into a carian cross combo or a dragonclaw (not to mention the potential of Madding Hand which I haven't been feeling evil enough to explore). Can't wait to see what shenanigans Saint can pull off at this level!
I have a question, I assume you use a higher level weapon to kill stuff and get into the DLC, but whenever I get my stuff and discard the weapon I still can't invade anyone, how do you fix it?
@@dunmeroverlordthat’s not how it works. Once you’ve got a +11 weapon, you’ll be stuck in that bracket forever. Even if you discard it or trade it or whatever, the game keeps a note saying “this guy had a +11 weapon”, and you’re stuck in that bracket until you upgrade further. So you’re better off using spells since those aren’t accounted for in weapon match making.
@@dunmeroverlord yeah basically if you are trying to stay at a certain matchmaking level your weapons need to reflect that as well. So for example if you are making a lvl 20 invader with plus 3 weapons, and you picked up rogiers rapier or the plus 8 halberd from the dude in castle morne. You are going to be out in plus 8 level matchmaking. But as a general rule of thumb I wouldn’t ever discard weapons unless you have like 20 of the same one. It’s just better to put stuff in your chest. You never know when you might want to use a weapon.
omg the absolute actual madness of that phantom trying to snipe you with frenzy while you kept vanishing to disengage his lock on 😂 great video as always saint!
8:04 if there’s a use for something in a Souls game, then there’s a use for something in a Souls game. i.e my DS3 fave, offhand Caestus punch leads to roll-catch/poise through one-handed greathammer R1, then into a true combo jumping attack. Non-swap Greathammers suck, but it’s funny that they have a one-handed true combo to mix into, and addicting to use when you land it against Murky or PKCS.
Can confirm, other games do that too where something gets nerfed and no one uses it again. PoE has that a lot where a skill gets a slight nerf and no one uses it for 3 patches even though it didn't get a buff again and it's actually been fine the entire time.
It genuinely blows my mind that people simply stop using stuff because it gets nerfed. All it really signifies to me is that they were only concerned with winning, not having fun. When something gets nerfed, it just means you have to be more strategic with it. If you can still make plays with it nerfed, it means you are objectively a better player, not crutching on something overtuned. 😌👌
literally, i noticed this the moment the grafted sword glitch got patched. suddenly all the twinks in stormveil castle wearing the exact same armour sets stopped invading now that they had no means to have 13 virtual levels of Vigor. And hey, i've invaded and hosted invasions, with or without exploits. the devs patching them never stopped me from having fun with different builds and cosplays at low level.
Alright, that's more convincing. I can definitely get behind the talisman on low level builds for much the same reason as I can get behind the soreseals, especially since it would be that much more demanding to get 40 dex on a low level spellcaster.
My favorite Mirriam's Vanishing combos: Mirriam's -> Death Lightning Mirriam's -> Briars of Sin Mirriam's -> Glinstone Nails (great as a mix-up for those expecting a close range spell).
At lower levels primary defence which is flat defences will be doing most of the work in reducing pre mitigated damage, such that percentage damage negation won’t be reducing much compared to 150 meta of max weapons.
Thanks for this video. Extremely informative and entertaining, very stylish build as well. I was wondering why I hate rl60 so much, even though it should be a good level in theory. This information opens up a lot of possibilities for fun builds at rl40.
Ok so I did a few hours of Rl40 invasions with beloved stardust (flying of the shelf indeed) and marika's soreseal, using mostly crappy bloodspells (stone of gurranq + blade of Ansbach true combo mvp). And I have to say this was about the most fun I've ever had invading in this game. Night and day difference compared to rl60. For whatever reason, I just take way less damage than on meta level or any other level, with around - 15% dmg absorption from the talismans. How can this be? I'm convinced there is some kind of invader protection at this level, like Saint said. I just don't take any damage at all, it's insane.
I coop with friends. As a phantom I prefer being the same level, or at least very close in level to them. Seriously it helps a lot because the nerfing can be quite strong with big level differences. It may make no sense to someone who invades a lot, but being summoned very overleveled makes you very squishy. And it's not just because bad red man is around. Mostly the mobs will hit like a truck if you are much higher level than the host. But I don't always have a close level to my friends so I'll chose the next tier up. Maybe they are level thirty, and they summon my level 80 character. We're not even trying to do the gank thing, but we still want to play together. They don't need help either since they are experienced players. We just like hanging out, and playing together. I imagine the same is true for a lot of the overleveled phantoms you encounter. They aren't necessarily there to protect the host, but are friends who only have that character for summoning.
7:23 I mean, they really did dirty to the hollow scaling overall, not just the carthus nerf. I loved my hollow build, but it felt terrible to use after the nerf
Also he says it was a slight nerf but they slowed down its R1, which is its most important attack, and reduced its active frames and forward momentum when two-handing, AKA how everyone used it. Then they nerfed the hollow infusion and bleed in general. It’s the difference between PKCS and falchion. PKCS is the best weapon in the game due to its range and speed, while falchion (same moveset as the Carthus) never sees the light of day. Carthus is definitely better than falchion and some people do use it for its damage and bleed, but it makes sense why the general playerbase dropped it. Plus the DLC dropped the follower saber, which is almost identical to the Carthus but with a better weapon art. Carthus is still really good I agree, especially one-handed, but it’s just really obvious that pre-nerf and post-nerf are basically different weapons.
@Felicificity well, that's because it had a "light" curved sword moveset instead of the "long" curved sword moveset. That's the only reason why the pontiff knight cs is broken. Carthus cs is more than playable if not for the comparison with such stagnant meta.
I started playing in 2021, and built a Hollow/quality character (40/40/40!) after I got into invading. Hollow Warden Twinblades and a Carthus CGS made for some of the most fun fights I've ever had. I never got around to using the Carthus curved sword, mainly because I didn't want to overlap movesets with my main weapon. I'll definitely give it a shot after this and see how it stacks up, hahaha!
Saint talking about knocking people off bridges and forgetting the comically lengthy knockdown from ultra weapons in Demon's Souls, which could turn a stray R2 clip into a three-meter slide off any steep drop in Latria smh
I also need to give Miriam's Vanishing a shot (I didn't even get to try it in PvP at launch, because I was a little preoccupied with the DLC) but another anti-lock-on tool is the Unseen Form sorcery. I'm pretty sure it reduces the range at which your opponent can lock on to you, and maybe removes lock on when you first cast it?
