Very nice twist on the wave box technique, presented in a way that should be easy to replicate. I really like the up styling of the lava lamp shape of the 60's too. Many thanks for sharing!
There is nothing i do not like on this Carl....the wood, live edge, the aluminum, leds, and the beeswax finish....Amazing work sir....have a great weekend you and Robin
I can't tell you, Carl, how much it means to me that you take so much time and effort to share your woodworking experience with us. Health issues prevented me from carrying on my career but you have given me hope in finding a new trade to make a living. I don't know what I would have done without you, and others like you, who share the knowledge. I appreciate you man.
Wow, really beautiful piece! I really like the technique you used to turn all the pieces together! Great job as always! Thanks for sharing! Greetings from Greece. Dimitris
Fine video, I really enjoyed the project. As someone with only very limited lath experience I thought maybe this was a project I might try. Loved the sound track.
That turned out so cool Carl!! Thanks for all the great tips on how you made it. I"d be scratching my head trying to figure out how to do that just by looking at it
That is a cool project! Maybe on a similar or future project with led strips, try running the strip through a piece of clear or opaque tube. It should distribute your light throughout. Great videos and thanks
Love the lamp Carl its very stylish! An excellent project and idea ,must say though, the music bought back hazy memories of free festivals back in the 60's ....but that's another story altogether... :) Great video mate , Bram
Great project Carl. I think that must be one of the first projects you haven't turned at 3000 rpm for a long time, lol. Have you ever thought about making up your own LED lighting, it's very easy and you can get the configuration of lights that you want much easier, also the wire going in would then be a fraction of the size.
Very cool idea, love how it turned out. I'm incredibly new to turning and I use a spring pole lathe but your channel gives me plenty of inspiration! - Clint
Looks great, but I can see what you mean about trying to get that light to come out more evenly between the rings. Making the dowel hole wider could result in losing that fantastic cone shape you made. What if you opened up the bottom, turning it from the inside? A recessed plug wouldn't show, and if you made it from the same piece of wood, the grains would align. Just a thought.
Beautiful! An idea, with the circle cutting, if you were to cut out the spacing the grains would look even more continuous. so if # is part of wood from base to top, ) is a cut, and * is throw away, it would look like 1 )*) 2 )*) 3 )*) 4
Awesome project Carl. I do however have a question, are you using the same mounting point in the log and just reducing the radius on your circle cutting jig or do you have multiple pivot points for the cuts? All the best, Ben
Thank you Michael! I use Howards bees wax and orange oil to cut down on the dust. I use it on all the grits. astore.amazon.com/thewood0c-20/detail/B00DKWRNZ0
Carl Jacobson but doesn't that effect the surface if you want to apply something different as a finished coat like a hardening oil, vanish, tung... or a sanding sealer.
Thank you, Carl and Robin, for another great project. LED lights can enhance so many projects. On the downside, I'm dismayed that you still can't pronounce the word aluminium correctly. It's al-you-min-ium and not alloominum:-). We should never have granted our former colony self-government. Best... Alan.
Hey there :) I think your projects are amazing but you should pay more attention to the production of the video, as well as the thumbnail (I mean, just take a nice picture of it, with good lighting and a nice background, maybe an overlaid text if you want to, but in the appropriate font), so it will be more desirable to watch. So, for example, I think you're a laid back kind of guy so maybe if you used an appropriate "laid back" kind of music (instead of a funky type, it just doesn't match) it will give off a nicer mood. You'd get a ton of more views, then! I hope!
Very nice twist on the wave box technique, presented in a way that should be easy to replicate. I really like the up styling of the lava lamp shape of the 60's too. Many thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much Gard!

Well there's a handful of new techniques and tricks all rolled into one lamp. Great job Carl.

Very cool idea, love how it turned out. I'm incredibly new to turning and I use a spring pole lathe but your channel gives me plenty of inspiration! - Clint

Very nice Carl......... Sorry I've not had time to do your live feeds.
Thank you Tom!
Hi Carl, how did you go about drilling the holes accurately for the aluminium rods so they lined up?
Beautiful work! Oustanding music...!
Thank you Antonio!!
Cool! Like the music, sounds like a bouzouki.
Looks great, but I can see what you mean about trying to get that light to come out more evenly between the rings. A recessed plug wouldn't show, and if you made it from the same piece of wood, the grains would align. Just a thought.
Thank you Ethan! Ya I need to play around with it a little more, but great idea thanks.
très beau travail comme d'habitude
Je vous remercie
Getting fancy with the editing there
Beautiful! An idea, with the circle cutting, if you were to cut out the spacing the grains would look even more continuous. so if # is part of wood from base to top, ) is a cut, and * is throw away, it would look like 1 )*) 2 )*) 3 )*) 4
Thank you Start! Cool idea thanks
It's a very nice lamp. It would be interesting if you could replace the rods with magnets.
Thank you! That would be cool, now you got me thinking.
The song made this video kinda hypnotic
Carls eyes do that for me lol
HAHAHAHA
It was cool Karl ))
Thank you!
Awesome project Carl. I do however have a question, are you using the same mounting point in the log and just reducing the radius on your circle cutting jig or do you have multiple pivot points for the cuts?
All the best,
Ben
Thank you Ben! I'm just reducing the radius by moving it in each time.
Take care,
Carl
Why exactly do you sand while putting the finish on? does it give any advantage?
It cuts down on the sanding dust, and makes the sand paper last longer.
What chuck is that? Those quick-change jaws are awesome!
It's a Easy Wood chuck, they should be back on the market this summer. www.easywoodtools.com/products/easy-chuck/
Now this. This i can get behind!! :O
Thank you :)
Excellent...
Cheers...
Thank you Adam!
nice project - reminded me of the old lava lamp - I'm dating myself :)
Thank you Greg :)
great little project, but I always see you sand with some oil? like substance, what are you using when sanding and is that just for the finer grits?
Thank you Michael! I use Howards bees wax and orange oil to cut down on the dust. I use it on all the grits. astore.amazon.com/thewood0c-20/detail/B00DKWRNZ0
Carl Jacobson but doesn't that effect the surface if you want to apply something different as a finished coat like a hardening oil, vanish, tung... or a sanding sealer.
Pretty cool man!
Thank you!
Excellent,....
Thank you! Cheers!
love it. Thanks again,
Thank you!
what does cherry feel like on the lathe?
by the chips it looks like it might be a mix of ceder and poplar
Cherry is a very hard wood and turns great.
great video
Thank you Bill!

Thank you Antony!
Nice👍
Thank you Steve!
Hey Carl! Would you like some apple to turn?

I changed the jaws I have a few defendant sizes.

Steve said it looked like a sliced up boiled egg lol . But I think it looks cool . Take care .
Hahaha......It does kinda :) Thank you Glen!
Take care,
Carl
Liebe Carl, aber bist Du einMeister? Oder Genius? Silvio Romano, Ciao...

I think the music was just fine but I like blues and jazz better but its your video, your choice right
Why you did not start it
When do we find out who got the Murder Bowl?
I'll do the drawing live on the 1st of June David!
Sorry that part did go pretty fast. Yes I drilled down into the piece below a little bit so it left a mark.
anyone else think it looks like one of those large glade air fresheners? but it does look great non the less
Haha Thanks Jacob!
... Steve Zahn??
Thank you, Carl and Robin, for another great project. LED lights can enhance so many projects. On the downside, I'm dismayed that you still can't pronounce the word aluminium correctly. It's al-you-min-ium and not alloominum:-).
We should never have granted our former colony self-government.
Best...
Alan.
Hahahaha.....Thank you Alan!! I thinking about starting a YT channel for English slang...:)
Take care,
Carl

Thank you, and thanks for the advice!
Interesting project but weird music.
Maybe not 100% fitting the video, but still very good music.
Yeah...what's with the Ali Baba music?? hahaha!!
dat music
MEH!!! not bad ;) CACAO
HAHA Thanks Jamieeeeeee
First comment! Also, looks beautiful, man! Great job! Looking forward to watching you on Twitch!
Thank you Cristofer!
Lovely !
Thank you Tomas!
Carl, how do you align the holes for the rods? It seems that they must be precisely drilled.
I lined the first ring up with the base, and then used the first ring to drill from the bottom to line up the rest of the rings.
