  • For the most people, they would throw a dead car battery off when those thought so; However in the most cases, a dead car battery can be recharged at home successfully and save $$$. This video will show you how to do that step by step.

    Hi friend what are the amperage for the high and low settings

    • @diymade2175
      @diymade2175  2 года назад +2

      Thanks for your question and is good one. It depends on that battery charged condition, although from the charger's point of view: Hi should be almost as twice as Lo but in practical and moderate condition, the charger in Lo position - say: 5A has been indicated ie. if you change to Hi position right away, you should respect to get 8A or so and proximate. The poorer battery is, the higher amperage.

I did not see the logic of buying a higher rated charger at this time, when I had to get my car going and money was short. I did buy another battery, but did not return my old battery. I am determined to try again and make this work! I will either borrow a stronger charger or maybe do more cycles with the lower amperage charger. Does anyone know if the lower amps with more cycles will work?

    Personally I've found that adding just distilled H2O, to the dry cells, isn't enough. You MUST add some sulphuric acid. It's only by adding H2SO4 that you'll see a rise in the voltage, e.g. 12V. Otherwise several cells just will not 'wake up', and you'll end up with 8 or 10V.

    • @diymade2175
      @diymade2175  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for your comment. You did well and good effort ! I must say: The way of restoring a dead car battery depends on "the condition of that battery at that time". The way of recharging dead battery in the video has showed: The one of the most successful cases, BY FIRST ATTEMPTED and fixed battery's problems in the most cases. You have to be very careful about filling acid (some one calls it as "battery Boosta") into battery's cells, sometimes damaging battery may occur although these cases have not been many.

    About to watch your make charger video. Do you have a circuit to add trickle charge function? I have an old arlec that does not do low charge and would like to mod it. it has 6 and 12volt selection only.

    • @diymade2175
      @diymade2175  Год назад

      Thanks for your interested ! The easiest way to modify the charger you have, depending on what kind of the circuits or components inside charger have. If your charger is a transformer with center tapped secondary & Diodes type, it can be done just add a Switch to have the charger modified for low and high charging. Watch video "ruclips.net/video/unl48S3bOpw/видео.html" for reference. However if a transformer without center tapped secondary & diodes type, you can add a Switch and a DC to DC Step Up Boost Converter (the Boost Converter is the voltage adjustable as you wish: output 13 - 16 V ie.) to have it done, of course this modification will be a bit more complicated unfortunately I do not have a video to offer regarding this. Good luck !

    I think this battery was in good condition before the video. 9 volts does not mean it’s bad and not accepting charge it was just flattened before the video then he charged it up. I have tried this method in the past and it does work on some batteries but if it’s severely sulfated this doesn’t work you be there all day. You need higher amps to de sulfate and recondition battery.

      In the most cases, the acid fluid inside battery will be bobbled during recharging process which means the pressure building up each cell especially during Hi charging, so keeping cell's caps open to release that pressure and at the same time to check the fluid level in side each cell.
