In this episode of #TheDailyDoug, I'm reacting to Follow the Light by Dirty Loops (Featuring Cory Wong). I was overwhelmed by this band's musicianship. This song is infectious, and I had a great time playing along. #InstantFan

I mean to take absolutely nothing away from any other musician on stage with Henrik, but sometimes I swear that half the reason Dirty Loops is so popular is because they actually have the balls to let the bass be heavily present in the mix. There are some phenomenal bassists out there, but they're rarely given such a spotlight like this. It's incredible.
Great comment 👍
It’s only three in the band, no guitar, no sax, no trumpet , and for me it’s "normal" for a jazzy trio.
This shit is what should be topping the charts!
People don't want talent, they want characters with face tattoos
Amen to that, Elias
This stuff will never be on the charts. Who cares about the charts anyway, we've got RUclips!
It should ... positive, happy, brings joy. Truthfully it should. Why people and kids would rather listen to. Them swedes know how to play.
Henrik Linder is a master of his craft. Probably one of the greatest bassists alive.
one of?
@@iamthephoto Aye. There are some pretty legendary bassist out there. Henrik is among them.
100% agree! The level of skill and mastery is amazing!
@@akio2589Henrik, Joe Dart, Victor Wooten
@@person3538 Aye, I said one of, not "the."
The funny thing is: considering their past work, they held back themselves here
I wasn’t expecting that whatsoever!!!!!! Drummer was fantastic, vocalist was great but that dang bassist was freaking awesome!!!!! Definitely get more Dirty Loops my friend!!!!!! Your reaction was absolutely priceless 😳😳😳 😊😁😂🤣😂
Quincy Jones is just their manager though. They produce their songs themselves, together with Simon Petrén. I heard one of them say, in an interview, that they don’t send Quincy anything, not even demos, until it’s completely finished. They’re mad as hatters and it’s utterly brilliant. 😁
You don't think that the MJ samples came from Q ?
@@markprater1 I'm sure it's made as an MJ tribute, and is supposed to sound a bit like him, but if you ask me it doesn't sound like it actually IS an MJ sample, but rather something they've created in some other way. And even if it is a real sample, it doesn't change the fact that QJ isn't their producer in any way. He's still just the manager. I'm sure they could have gotten a sample either way, if that is what it is.
Thats not a sample
It just sounds like Cory Wong songs on steroids.@@markprater1
The trombone player is Michael B Nelson. He toured with Prince and wrote Prince's horn arrangements...
You have officially been loopified my friend. Your life will never be the same!!!!!
I came back for another listen. Thanks, Doug.
Dirty Loops met at the royal Swedish Music Academy. The keyboard player studied composition.
Their song "Work shit out" has one of my favorite musical moments in years. The transition to the piano solo.
They have a great cover of Thriller, replete with half time break. Incredible musicianship.
Work Shit Out, Rock You, and Breakdown, are all must listens! There's so much musicality going on but yet it manages to retain that pop accessibility. To me they show that you can write complex music and still have be grooving and fun and catchy, reminds me a lot of how dense someone like Prince's music was etc
I second that
Work shiit out plssssssssss :DDD
In terms of musical arrangement, I think Next To You is a better pick than Work Shit Out. Work Shit Out shows their musical skill well, but I think Next To You was just written better (the way it spans genres too).
Either song is great though! Don't get me wrong.
Breakdown and Rock You are also awesome!
@@ErnestRamos I agree. But I would certainly watch any of his Dirty Loops reaction videos.
@@tparmenter definitely!
"I was not prepared for that intro," that's what I always say after looping this song for hours...
No one is prepared for Dirty Loops on first listen!
Insane skills as a 3-piece then add in Cory Wong with the rhythm guitar and the horn section... it just gets better!
Henrik Linder is my favorite new bass player. He's a total beast.
First time I've seen a bass player using Whammy. Henrik Linder is on another level
The musicianship of all of these guys (including Cory Wong and his Hornheads) is off the charts. I think the thing that makes Dirty Loops, Cory Wong, and Vulfpeck so amazing and tight is that none of them allow their ego to get in the way. They're all highly technical and gifted musicians, they all know it, and they all genuinely respect eachother's abilities and they all truly like each other. You can see the joy on their faces when they play and it's infectious. And Grace Kelly's stank face is everything.
Drugs reaction at 7.04 is priceless. Brilliant stuff.
Just in case you didn't know, they actually recorded this in two separate studios on different continents with the same sets and cameras. When you see Corey and everyone "reacting" to the Dirty Loops guys- they're not actually there, and vice versa.
Absolutely stunning visual production on this, not to mention the monster musicians.
That's bonkers. I guessed it wasn't a single take with a few overdubs here and there but I assumed they were at least in the same room. That makes this even more impressive.
@@johnnyonline They did the whole album like this. It's nuts.
@@johnnyonlineDirty Loops is a Swedish band, so that's why
Great reaction. You MUST do more Dirty Loops. They've got such epic material and you'll love all of it. I suggest "Work Sh!t Out", "Rock You", and "Next to You" in particular. I loved the way you grooved with this. They always leave you wanting more. Also, the credits can sometimes be long, but they're worth reading because they put some funny stuff in them quite often. Lastly, I love your shirt.
Agree
Hear hear!!
Breakdown is my favourite among their newer releases.
+1!!
I thought I was listening to a Quincy / Michael Jackson comeback - great groove
Great, Doug! Thanks so much!
Yay! More Dirty Loops!
Doug dancing? Yeahh!!! This made my day!!! Dirty Loops is soooo good
I envy you because you have so much more of Dirty Loops to explore! The three members of DL are all classically trained musicians.
ps please, listen to Jonah Nilssons version of "Bad" ds
"Work Shit Out" and "Coffee Break Is Over" is a must Dirty Loops reaction
Need to make a Doug dancing gif 🕺
"Work shit out" is the best. When you do the next one.
I love the reactions lol reacted the same way listening to this majestic track
@Dirtyloops are all incredible. Henrik is truly a bass genius but let's not forget the immense talent both drummer and keyboardist have. So so tight. Insanely talented all of them.
7:03 best key change reaction ever!
Henrik and Aron are beasts at their tradecraft. Jonah is a gift on the keyboard. And vocals
The “WHOA!” reaction 😂💥❤️❤️
Love your reaction, next reaktion: Dirty Loops ”work Shit out” (Jonah do a pianosolo that reveal his classical background) ✨
WORK SHIT OUT is the definite Dirty Loops track. Just the three of them (no Cory Wong, no horns - don't need them!!!). Super track, highlights every member - will BLOW YOU AWAY!!!
I love your dancing and Vibing to the music... makes me so happy...amazing reaction
Gz! Finally you meet these talented swedes, and you have soo many more songs ahead of you! Keep up the good work!
The beauty of music shown in all its amazing amazingness as exemplified by Doug’s fantastic body language whilst grooving to the band.
All 3 Dirty Loops were classically trained at the Stockholm Royal Academy of Music where they were friends. They compose first on paper then go into the studio.
Loved your reaction. Great when a reactor listens to something more than once-shows he's really paying attention. Big Loops fan here. You're going to get a lot of requests, just know this. There are NO bad Loops songs. They are all unique and I've never heard a bad one. Welcome to LoopsWorld.
There is so much more to discover with Dirty Loops. Check their song “Rock you”.
Dirty Loops came about when these three cats were jaming while attending the musical highschool. They suggested to take a famous pop song and then twist it around and have fun with it. Rest is history.
This is so great! This song always make me happy.
Yo Daily D, you MUST do "Work Sh!t Out", DL's drummer really shines on that super uptempo track. Peace!
The punctuated counter and poly rhythm fills are just toooo tight. Mannnn...that's good. Horns, Bass and Drums...right on it.
Their latest single, Turbo, deserves a listen too! It's completely instrumental and they go HAM
They have a insanely cool cover of Thriller by Michael Jackson. It’s genius. They’re playing it in 12/8 can recommend reacting to it. It’s on the turbo album too.
Henrik Linder is featured on an amazing and recently released track by the guitar heroes Jack & Owane: "U.T.F.F."
Getting in a Christmas request early. Bela Fleck and the Flecktones version of "The 12 Days of Christmas." Each day is in a different key and it's corresponding time signature based on the day number ie., 1/1, 2/2, 3/4, 11/8 etc.
...making a note...
@@Doug.Helvering Studio version, I should add. There are live versions which are impressive, but they don't have all the musicians used in the studio.
Hahaha good call on this. This version always makes me smile. 😂 Really captures Christmas for me.
Ooo...
May I suggest Jewish parody a capella groups for Hanukkah?
Another vote for "Work Shit Out"
On first listen, everybody seems to react with "WHAT?!?" at the end of a Dirty Loops song. I know I did. :D Even when I know the band now, I still react with "WHAT?!?" at the end of every new release they make.
These are the facts lol
These guys are masters of their instruments.
I saw them live in Helsinki earlier this year and they were f*cking amazing. The musicianship, the groove, incredible.
That opening is such a shot of adrenaline, and so ballsy. Very *very* few *musicians* could even live up to that intro, and they've got an entire BAND that blows the roof off. It's the kinda song that leaves you sore from how much grooving you do while you're listening
I'm really enjoying classical stank face. Your enjoyment is super earnest, and I really appreciate it.
Please react to Dirty Loops - Work Shit Out, you'll be even more blown away.
Been a loyal fan for about 4 years. Welcome to the club!
Yep you hit the jackpot with this group! Next to you, breakdown, rock you, work shit out…lots of great original stuff plus a ton of older cover songs with endless reharmonizations and cool arrangements!
Hahaha the look on your face at the opening.... priceless :-D That made my day...
Yeah, listen to more of this band!
It's so fun to me how Dirty Loops manage to put a smile on every musicians face when they first hear them.
Dirty loops was one of the first bands, without a record contract that went totally viral on RUclips :) they are freaking awesome. Bass player is pure world class
Recommendation: Pain of Salvation- lter impius and martius nauticus live. It's way different from King of loss
Seconded
Made the same sugestion.
A Man of culture
The singer co-wrote Random with Kpop/Jazz artist Lee Jinah. I love her song Stairs too. It's fantastic.
Damn and I’m off down the Dirty Loops rabbit hole!!!! Great band. Thanks Doug.
It is amazing that despite its complexity and sophistication this song is so catchy and uplifting! I love to listen to it while riding my bike. Doug, thank you for yet another great video! Your enthusiasm is contagious!
These guys. . .! Whew!! Been following them for a while. Henrik Lender is unreal with that bass. Unreal. Period.
I loved the ”What!?” After the key change at the end haha
This song should be up for a Grammy
Doug at 6:30. :D
I get it, dude. That groove is irresistible. You need to do "Work Shit Out". Brilliant song, and as a piano player you will particularly appreciate it... ;)
Dirty loops does "songs for lovers" as a side project that's mostly bass/drum and its face melting. More a show of talent than songs but it's amazing
New dirty loops so mature. Check their old stuff sir, full of mindblowing arrangement
FUNK FUSION.. wow.. Love it... dang. the singer sounds like Michael J. ya think? Nice 6/9 chords, Major 11, 9ths, 13ths #9s slash chords sweet.. very nice choice
Hahaha your reaction to that final key change.. I was waiting for it through the whole video!
Love the way you picked it up with such ease. Says a lot about your own ability.
Your stank face when you hear something you don't expect is magic, brother Doug.
Leprous- Running Low
Any and all leprous!
doesn't have to be this song, but the verse to chorus change will be a good talking point.
Really glad you liked them
Got me a new band to listen to.
They came to Australia a couple of years (2015) as a support act to Maroon 5. I know some people who were blown away by them at their concert, including serious Aussie musicians. Best band I have heard in 71 years.
I read under the originally posted video of this tune that the two halves of the band weren't even on the same continent, much less the same room! Just good editing and identical staging!
LOL man, that car analogy was exactly me listening this fot the first time half year ago 🤣🤣
This was awesome! I love your work and loved seeing you getting speechless listening to Dirty Loops! They're from another planet!
From one Doug to another, I am glad that you discovered and chose to review this. I provided financial support and helped them produce the “Turbo” album. That horn section is Cory Wong’s horns, known as the Wongnotes. The entire album is fabulous.
You helped produce them?! How do we hang out?!! 😃
@@NooshaSheep - not in that way (LOL); I just provided financial support to help them get the project off the ground.
@@dougmael oh hey, whatever you did, thanks for helping get this stuff out into the world!! I figure while there's there's virtually no chance of me ever getting to hang out with these particular musicians, I could work on coolness by association by hanging out with folks who supported these guys instead, it seems a lot more of a realistic goal. ☺️
Any proof?
Hey Doug! Hope all is good! Would love to see you with another Dirty Loops-song within soon! I would suggest their song "Next to you". Peace and love bro!
Finally! Was waiting for the Doug take on this masterpiece!
Hope you are willing to review more of their playlist
Clicked on this as fast on this as humanly possible and your "Breakdown" was everything I'd hoped for! DL are absolutely next level! Hope you can "Work Shit Out" to where you can do more Dirty/Filthy Loops sooner than later! (See what I did there?) 😎
Gotta do “Turbo” next. The horn lines & tenor sax solo are INSANE
From the video video, I see that this is not the first time you hear this music and the group, and the guys are simply the best !!!
I've watched others do a reaction to Dirty Loops but your video was the best. You have true excitement listening to the group. I've never seen anyone try to figure out the chord progressions like you did during the video. Well done, and entertaining.
One of the utmost greatest reactions. Superb analysis! (And oh my goodness there is soooo much here for you to enjoy...)
You, at 6:30, doing what any good musician does...loose yourself in the groove. I love watching these guys just enjoy themselves in the moment. When the spirit of the song takes over and they are lost to it.
Like you said , Doug : they are all great !!!
Yes... Hallelujah!!!!
My favorite part of this arrangement was the modulation at the end. SICK!
Your Journey with dirty loops is just beginning... Hope you do more reactions of the other songs, every song is a whole experience...
Love the research you do at the beginning! Awesome reaction
Wow. I've vaguely heard of these guys but never heard of them... but I'm an instant fan. I love jazz, funk, and pop anyway, but put them all together and I'm in heaven. Definitely be downloading their discography soon.
Well, that was a fun light one with a bunch of interesting stuff going on. I like
Dirty Loops are awesome, thanks for the video
Thanks for the early drop! So much easier for me to find time to take a break and watch. :-)
First time I heard this Dirty Loops tune, I thought I was drifting in Space: "Crash and Burn Delight"; and another cool tune with French: "Ta Fête (Stromae cover)" -- enjoy!
