Matt's pretty smooth, but I still miss the smoother, operatic strains of Messiah. Sure, things change but the first impression is usually the deal maker. Messiah aside, Candlemass is a legend, and anyone fronting the band has been given a TRUE honor.

@Gonzalo Hidalgo Bastien would be nice if he stayed on pitch sometimes. Also, I liked Candlemass for its CLEAR singing. This guy has trouble getting out one clean tone, and does not do "you are bewitched" any justice at all. So yeah - DECENT is a fair word to use, if you are slightly generous.

Way too much cheese for doom. More like a heavy/power metal song, really. There are few things in metal I hate as much as a generic punk beat in 4/4 that goes through an entire song.

I dont think Mats was comfortable trying to hit some of the high notes in this live performance. Especially in Solitude, the Chorus goes: Earth to Earth, Ashes To Ashes, and Dust into Dust. He kept skipping over the high in the chorus. Should go Earth to Earth, AAAAAAAshes to Ashes, and Dust Into Dust. Either way, I couldn't love Candlemass more than i do today. I knew every single song they did here, and I've only gotten to know Candlemass' material WELL (Of Souls) for the past 4 months. March CAN'T COME SOON ENOUGH!
I honestly say this: why not use 2 Vocalists? Candlemass could have Messiah for his stellar Vibrato, he's untouchable in that aspect. Then they could use Johan Lundkvist for the high note carries. I think that would provide such an excellent live experience!
Mats Leven was good, but his voice better suited with hard rock, sometimes it is too rough and gritty. Johan Langqvist and Messiah Marcolin are the perfect voices of Candlemass and the true voices of DOOM, i'm glad the first one is back in the band.
Yeah, Messiah was great and everything, but I really don't get the hate on Mats. He does a lot with his voice. From those gloomy (and doomy) vibratto lows to the high metal as fuck shrieks.
You said it right there, the high shrieks, it doesn't fit the music. He's a great singer but he needs to find his own identity, he wats to look and sound like 90's Cornell and play in a doom band.
Mr. Leven is a great singer, I just wish Candlemass would choose someone else…….His vocals do not hunt like Messiahs' did, it does not matter how skilled he is. I found Rob Lowe to be a much better fit With their sound actually, when Messiah left…….Such a pity that Mr.Marcolin could not stay in the band..... Oh well, I'll just keep listening to their older stuff :)

Yeah, I think Leif has had some health issues in past years. That's why he's not playing anymore. This guy does a pretty decent work, but since Leif is the main composer in Candlemass it's always cool to see him play.
