    Thanks Bino! ... beginner climber for a while now.... tried SRT base anchor today for the first time -- couldn't remember any of the specific techniques I've seen so I just used the "brute force" technique to tie it off.... .So now to go back and watch your videos where you show how you do it.... but the more simple ways for me first!

    Another great hitch for this application may be the Double Munster with Mule hitch tie-off as shown on Kenneth Knutson channel. Produces a lot more friction than a figure eight and doesn’t twist up the line. Can be used just with a carabiner and can lower really heavy loads.

      I heard about that. Thanks I'll check it out.

    Bino like your stuff. I would first put one biner on the alpine butterfly and then use others for the anchor on the prussik and lock off - I don't want anyone touching the AlpB at all in case they take it off! The prussik meets what we used to call the whistle test - the lowerer has to be able to get out of the way, hands free and feet don't fail me now, say if a dead branch is knocked down while lowering a climber. Another thing, i would be interested in any work ups you could have when using lowerable systems on a conifer. I am hesitant to set these lowerable systems up if you're conifer climbing on "smaller" limbs for your "safety line" - worried about the sawing effect of lowering someone off. So to me until it is stem choked somehow, say with a sling and two biners, the line is only "kinda" lowerable. With big tree limbs no problems, with some of the noodles we climb, maybe I'm not so brave. Thoughts? Wonky trees add so much more to trip someone up.

    Isn't there a choker knot that could be tied to the base of a tree so that if slides up, it gets tighter against the tree?

      Yes a Running Bowline with a Yosemite finish.

    Looks like you needed one more wrap on the friction hitch, the reason why you creeped a bit, good stuff Bino, Thank you, and Happy Resurrection Day.

      Yes and the sterling prussik is kind of stiff. It was the longest cord I had at the time. Thank you!

    I normally use the classic prusik with 3 wraps along with a snake ART anchor. You could also place the figure 8 above the distel in order to load the figure 8 first and the distel just becomes a control for how much slack is introduced. this might stop the knot from slipping.

    • @BinoH
      @BinoH  4 года назад +1

      I got a Snake ART for myself and my crew. I'll try it out! Thank you!

    Bino I saw a rock climbing video where they said you should actually run the rope on that type of figure 8 through a caribener because without ears on it the rope can ride up over the top and somehow lock. They said that's why some figure 8s have ears. Have you ever heard of that?

    • @BinoH
      @BinoH  4 года назад +1

      I'm not sure if it would happen on a base anchor. Maybe if you were repelling it could happen. There are figure eights with ears you could switch to one of those. In this situation it's fixed at the base I have never seen that happen.

    Can you see how a munter, mule, and overhand compare? It would require less gear, and I think you get better control lowering with a munter hitch than a figure-8. Although it may be more of a challenge to add the prusik backup

      Interesting I'll look in to it. Thank you!

    Thanks for the great video! I see that your using the DrenaLine in this video. As per your recommendation, I'm considering this rope because of the versatility. Would you recommend 150' or the 200' rope?

    • @BinoH
      @BinoH  3 года назад +1

      The length depends on how high or wide you plan on climbing. With a rope that is 150' you'll be able to go around 70' high. If you don't plan on going higher than that the extra rope would just be more weight to carry.

    • @stevebrough304
      @stevebrough304 3 года назад

      Thanks Bino. The 150' rope is probably the more practical choice. The extra 50' feet is tempting though.
