the oddest part about this is he is asking himself to hit him and it explains why he messes it up so badly as its really quite hard to hit yourself and even harder to go it with any force.
They didn’t tell him that he was gonna actually hit him which is why it looks real it is. Plus, he actually missed cause he was so nervous about hitting him.
"You do not talk about Fight Club" being a rule twice was a very clever way to make sure the people who watched it didn't then spoil the twist for later viewers.
Marvel Studios have a long standing tradition of alienating great actors and directors (Sam Jackson, Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans being the few exceptions) Btw, I also loved him as Bruce Banner, Mark Ruffalo sucks
He was great and technically his Bruce Banner is canon. His Hulk movie was the first of the MCU with Iron Man debuting almost alongside it. Only because Norton didn't want to return did we get Ruffalo, but they still reference events from the Norton Hulk film throughout the MCU movies, establishing that film as canon and Norton as the original Bruce.
Don't particularly enjoy comic films, but Edward Norton has been one of my top 3 actors for the better part of 20 years. The other two have been swapped out several times. Edward Norton holds his own. He's smart, and cool af, in real life. Watch his interviews (jre is a good one, you really get to see how he thinks)
Jack's biggest problem is that he only knows extremes. Extreme Masculinity or being extremely devoid of it... until he kills off Tyler and lets himself become one with him, thus balancing out both extremes.
I'm liking the fact it's implied the real you has been in fight club and might be dressing as the narrator in the film as your narrating this video. Fight club's always great. 👍
Man this is one of my favorite movies. Would you believe my first time seeing it was only a few years ago. I got the plot twist right as it was happening and I was like "Wait...wait...what?!! Oh my god!"
I love thinking about how the movie actually plays out. Like the car crash scene. Does he only vocalize Tyler's lines? It seems like he vocalizes both by how the passengers react, but it still a great premise.
Niyat, you should take a look at Hardcore Henry. It's an insane action flick that's filmed entirely from the perspective of the action hero, making it feel like a video game, even borrowing a few video game cliches. For example, there's a guy who literally has extra lives.
6:37 I've seen this movie a hundred times, and just now noticed that Tyler was rocking his suit with no underwear. 🤣 That's what I love about this movie. No matter how many times you watch it, you always notice or discover something new.
Your channel has quickly become my absolute favourite. I've loved films ever since childhood and it's so refreshing to hear commentary and exploring views on all my favorite movies and works of fiction.
Everyone started a fight club in high school because of this movie. We need operation mayhem to free the world. Love that picture of Muhammad Ali in the background. 😂
@@__MaReX__ it affected ppl not because of the fights but the philosophy, a big wake up from zombie land. Similar to when Matrix ends, RAM “wake up” song forced a lot of ppl to start thinking WTF were I my whole life! 😃
"We're a generation of men raised by women" this is a seriously overlooked line in the film. Children raised by single parent or without a good father figure are more likely to go to jail or be teen parents. 21 years later it's still an issue.
@wadautalkina beet it's the law of averages. Children raised by a single parent, on average, have a much lower standard of living than those raised by two parents. The majority of prisoners come from single parent households. Children need two loving parents to have the best chance at life.
@Kate Bee of course being a teen parent is a bad thing. Unless they're rich a teen isn't experienced enough or making enough money to take care of a child and end up handing the kid off to their mother/parents to raise. If a teen girl isn't smart enough to use contraceptives she's clearly not qualified to raise kids.
@Kate Bee it's not just my opinion it's fact. Teen parents especially single parents are at a huge financial disadvantage to properly take care of a child. That doesn't mean they can't but the child is statistically going to have a lower standard of living than a single parent in their 20s with a good job or two parents. A person having child in their teens alone is incredibly irresponsible. If the mother is married to a guy who's finactually stable and it was planned then ok, but otherwise that kid is going to have a rough life.
This is one of my favorite films. I love films that critique the world around us and the regimented society that we so casually accept as normal. Fight club, Falling down, Society, Taxi Driver, Joker, among so many others.
I absolutely adore the way you break down this material. Fight Club is my favorite film of all time, with that being said, I never thought about it in the way you just laid out. It's made me appreciate it's narrative in an entirely new way even though I've seen the film itself literally hundreds of times. Bravo, keep them coming.
I'd love it if you could look at the Mad Max films, both the original trilogy and Fury Road! More specifically the themes it explores and the psyche of Max, like why he feels like he needs to keep roaming the Wastelands instead of settling down somewhere.
You know, I get really tired of media and analysis stuff lately, always going on about how masculinity is apparently inherently toxic and aggressive and somehow always harmful to women, even if it has nothing to do with women. Nice to see a breath of fresh air.
Most website's you visit or get recommended are based off an algorithm of what you like. I especially like ancient history so that's what I usually get and browse. No one's forcing you to look that :/
But with this movie, the book really was meant to be a commentary on toxic masculinity. The author is a gay man who wrote the book as a satire and has been endlessly frustrated that so many dude bros have basically only watched the movie, took it literally, and think that that's how we should act as men
The one issue I had with Fightclub is that there isn't really any publicity pointing at its deeper aspects unless you actively look into it. To me it only ever registered as "some dudes hitting each other in the face + probably some plot that justifies that" until a friend talked me into actually watching it.
Bro, the psycho analysis is amazing....Holy shit.. I have a new found respect for this film because of you. Now I realize why this is one of the most brilliant films ever made....
But the truth is even more sinister. The truth is that we are still in the great depression. That is correct, it never ended. Our country, and the rest of the world, just learned to live with it as it was/is. This is true with the great depression and every economic downturn since. The issue has never been fixed, we just adapted to the new normal and moved on, kicking the can even further down the road, for some future generation to handle, *_IF_* they themselves don't just keep kicking the can, as we have. This is not sustainable, of course. And eventually it will all come crashing down, likely resulting in massive outbreaks of war, some civil, some not so civil, all over the globe.

I believe that a man's true confidence, his true sense of self, comes from his ability to handle himself in physical combat. That's what I get from fight club because little boys are taught that fighting is wrong and they learn to repress this urge to fight, talk it out. Society punishes men for fighting without sanction as to why dueling was outlawed. And why do men fight; mostly defend their personal honor or the honor of others. Discrediting a man's honor, will you put your life at risk. Yes there are sports that are an outlet for release but, they are controlled with rules against excessive violence.
