  • fightson.net/c... This video is a recording of an (unofficial) reunion of the 4 key players in Speed & Angels, which was part of the Live Stream F-14 Tomcat 50th Anniversary Celebration put on by FightsOn.net back on Sat 16th May 2020.
Released in Feb 2008, Speed & Angels is a fabulous film about the 2.5 year journey of 2 young US Navy aviators to fulfil their dream of flying the F-14 Tomcat that they both had since their childhoods.
Starring Meagan "Slick" Varley & Jay "Faceshot" Consalvi, Speed and Angels has been described as "the REAL Topgun" and was conceived as a "Love Letter to Naval Aviation" by producer Paco Chierici (who also flew the F-14 Tomcat & was in Speed & Angels).
Directed by Peyton Wilson (an accomplished documentary filmmaker), Speed & Angels "took four years to make, many (many) days of living on a variety of Navy bases and carriers. It screened at The Smithsonian, festivals throughout the country, Discovery Channel and was Hulu’s #1 documentary."

Thank you all for doing this film. It really is the real life version of Top Gun. I was in college when that film came out and it had a similar effect on me however with a vision issue I knew I wouldn't be able to be a Naval Aviator. Maybe had I had the persistence Jay had I could have been. I did end up at NAS Alameda after college, helped opened he McDonalds on the base in 1985 and got to know a lot of both enlisted and officers there. That was an awesome experience in that I got to spend time on the Vinson and the Enterprise. Had a lot of Navy brats working for me also. My flying has been limited to some private stuff, Cessna's and Pipers but like Meagan said to me, flying is flying. Just can't experience unlimited angle of attack in a 152! Meagan, I share your film with my kids like you look forward to with yours, hopefully they will find it inspiring and show that you can achieve your dreams if you go after them with everything you have! Thanks again for doing the film, and for letting us into your personal lives a bit more with this follow up!

Absolutely worth watching. I just realized that Meagan's reaction to jets was essentially the same as Toad's reaction when he first saw a motor car (Wind in the Willows movie). But who am I to talk; in the nineteen fifties I'd run out of the house every time a plane flew over the house.🤪

Something interesting about this movie and Top Gun. In Top Gun, they used A4 Skyhawks to simulate the Migs because it was small and agile (just like Jester said). Then they eventually faced off against the "Mig 28s". In reality, there is no such thing as a Mig 28. The Mig 28s in Top Gun are actually F5 Tigers. The F5 Tigers are also featured in this movie as well, playing the role of the enemy.
