Great pick. I have 12 EJ’s and own Eric’s personal Prototype EJ Thinline that your production model was based on. It’s an amazing guitar. I have a video of it on my channel. Congratulations
Keep that guitar as long as you can because it will be highly desirable and collectable in the future, not many were made and it's, to my knowledge, the only quality "true" thinline Stratocaster they ever made. Nice find! 👍
Great demo! I love the EJ lines, but don't know much about them. Are the thinline pickups completely different from the solid body set? I bought a used American Standard 1993 and am considering swapping out the Texas specials it has at the moment.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! I don’t think they are different pickup sets according to the literature that Fender put out when these were announced.
It’s funny, you said you don’t play like EJ…nobody does….you said you tried to get an EJ tone…nobody does…hahaha….nevertheless, great guitar and great review as always my man👍
For electric or acoustic? If it's acoustic I would just get a good case humidity control system and call it good. For electric you basically just need to run a dehumidifier all summer long in the room your guitars are stored. In terms of basic humidity related repairs, it's not that big of a deal. Fret sprout being the exception just because I don't have the patience to do file work but truss rod adjustments is really not that complicated (even for neck placed screws).
Would like your opinion. I want an Eric johnson strat, but it's to pricey. Would a mim player series with EJ hardware be adequate? Used mim player $500 and new drop in EJ pre-wired plate $400, So $900. Or is it worth waiting and saving up for the real thing? Which can easily be 2x the price. Are we just paying extra for the name. Or is it far superior?
Ooh a lot to pick apart here! There are some differences to be aware of. Mim has three to four piece body, US has two piece. Neck profile on the EJ is pretty fat and has medium jumbo frets with 12” radius. That makes it fairly unique amongst the Fender line. Also US has Nitrocellulose finish vs the polyurethane on Mim. HOWEVER, Fender MIM are on par with many US-made Fenders, in my opinion. If you can find one you like and mod it to be like EJ, that is probably what I would do. My MIM modded Tele is my favorite Fender right now, so that might be influencing my advice…
@TheGuitarReliquary Thank you! They just released the EJ drop-in plate on Sweetwater. So I'm hoping dropping that in a mim player series. With a bone nut. And roll the neck and smooth the frets out. With some locking tuners, it will be something I'm happy with for less money. I'm not sure if the stock bridge will be good enough yet. It's actually my first strat other than EVH and ibenez models. Kinda wish it had the pop in bar and not screw. But really, don't use a bar all that much. Been on an EJ kick. But now, at NAMM, they just showed the new Godin Alex Lifeson strat. So another rabbit hole sigh... Tone chasing syndrome.

I just bought one of these used for 1299, it’s not arrived yet but I can’t wait

Trying to regulate the humidity is driving me bananas. It's rained all summer long. Would like to learn from a luthier. So can fix stuff myself.

@@shelbyrockstar I absolutely get it!
i'm curious as to why are the "blonde" ones so much more expensive than the sunburst examples?
