    Whilst I generally appreciate Figes insights, broadly speaking linguistically based imperialism is hardly a uniquely Russian problem. Consider modern France. Nor is managed democracy unique to Russia. This is the norm in much of the developing world.

    "Letting Ukraine into NATO would be to militarize the conflict, which would be a catastrophe."
    Russia's aggression is what started and militarized the situation. NATO is bear repellant, how asinine to condemn the person being mauled by a bear for wanting it
