The girls are so good because Simon purposefully spotlights their talent vs their sexuality. They're all still sexy, but it's only enhanced because they lead with their voices and dance. When it comes to the plot of the MVs you have to start from the beginning. When they debuted they were basically in their alien sphere shouting out their existence. As soon as you hit Shooting Star era, you get them in their first traveling bit (that's why they're on their ship).
