Very good introduction to using the iPad. This is my first day on the iPad and I am still a beginner on Pro. What I found was, I didn’t see where to find many tools and selections in the Edit, View and Tools menus.
I have had SketchUp on my Mac for quite awhile (basically unused - waiting for new house to be completed so I could jump to interior design fun). Just downloaded on my iPad because I’m traveling the next several days and finally am ready to jump in. I have a lot to learn - thank you for these videos. Today is day one for me!
RUclips tutorials for iPad are still pretty rare so I was glad to find this. Sketchup for iPad is intuitive and I find increasingly easy versus my Mac. However, it’s missing many of the the tool options that one can more easily on other SketchUp versions. My current frustration is trying to find a divide tool to make 3 equal divisions of a grouped item.
sketchup never made sense to me with a mouse. A stylus seems like the way to go, so tinkering with it trying to decide if it's worth a trying to learn and pay a years subscription. not having an outliner & ability to change perspective angle is kinda a bummer, would be cool if there was a roadmap of what features you plan to implement.
@@JonSoMe666 Perhaps there maybe some at larger file sizes, but then again, desktop suffers the same. I haven’t experience lag yet. Perhaps my file sizes are different than yours? What file sizes are we talking about?
Love it ! Just got the iPad sketchup. Have not used pro version for years so i was expecting more from this but after using it for a few hours i have gotten used to it with the mouse and keyboard. It works just fine. Not sure how to make more short cuts on my keyboard. I am self taught with this program since it came out.
I think completely dropping the keyboard will make it easier to transition. It'll be developing additional muscle memory rather than replacing existing ones. I don't really expect to be as quick at first as I am with the desktop but it'll be so nice to start a model anywhere and work between desktop and iPad.
Hi A: Good Start, thank you . Could you please, for the next video, go over how/where Model Files are stored; I'm unclear as to how that works within the UI. When finish creating or editing can the user specifty the name and where the file is saved; ie., just locally on the iPad in a specific folder, just the SU Warehouse, or both? I just installed it and would like test it thoroughy before the 30-day trial period ends.
Hello. Thank you for making theses videos. I was hoping you might make a line of videos for those new to SketchUp and have an IPad. It seems to be so new I can not find good learning material, unless I learn the old way and then watch videos on how to move from the old way to the new way. Or, if you know of a source that you could direct me to. Thank you for your time.
Glad you found SketchUp! What you are describing is exactly what the SketchUp for iPad Square One videos are intended for! Check out all of the videos (this is just one of an entire playlist of content)!
Hi, i am just getting back to using sketchup after many years. I am trying to decide whether to get an ipad pro or air or simply get a new mac. I also downloaded the web based sketchup before I upgrade. But, i can't seem to enter the measurement...any advice?
Hello, thank you for your video. What I haven't found is this. Let's say that we've created a component on the file we're working on, and then we erase the instance. Is there something like the components palette where we can choose a component and insert it on the model? thank you, all the best, Francisco A., Lisbon Portugal
Hi Aaron, new to sketchup for ipad but loving your videos. A quick question, Is it possible to upload a component directly from sketchup for ipad to my 3d warehouse account for future use ?
Thanks, although it’s difficult to understand this would be better than having SketchUp Pro installed on a proper tablet such as MS Surface or similar. Then you wouldn’t have to switch methods and still have access to extensions. Why involve an iPad, does it really make any sense?
How do you expect us to see with your screen so small.we are just watching nothing till you do something on your iPad, we are unable to see what you select, its hard to follow
Hello Aaron, Very long time SU user and now love the ipad app. Thanks for the tutorials. Quick question, Is it possible to select different styles : sketch etc... on the ipad app. I cant seem to find all the styles that are available on the desktop versions? thanks alex
Hey Alex not necessarily a complete answer but… I have seen that some special styles (with custom lines, etc) have translated from a desktop file to the iPad. You won’t be able to edit the style in the iPad (as of yet) but , if the style is part of a scene, the style comes with it. At least that’s what I experienced with a particular file I had.
@@OmarCalderon01 thanks so much Omar. I noticed this myself a few days ago. I am going to include some blank scenes with multiple styles on a desktop version to use as a template scene on my iPad. Have a nice day
I don’t see a tray for outliner. This was by far one of the best changes to sketch up in recent years so that you can organize components in groups and hide and unhide them rather than using tags. Is it actually missing or can I just not find it somehow.
I'm new at this and still evaluating the differences between the iPad version from the desktop versions. I'd really like to see a video that compares how a tool on the desktop might differ from the same tool on ipad. As an example, I haven't been able to use the axis tool on the iPad in the way as I can on the desktop. The options seem to be limited such as reset etc. Another example, I haven't found the view tools to see my model in plan view, or any view actually. I feel like the UI is very limited, almost to the point of if you don't find a command on the toolbar, it's just not there, period. There's no where else to look. I've watched your excellent videos and am learning a lot, and it may simply be that I'm missing things for lack of knowledge. Thanks.
I did find the view tools at last in the Scenes tab.... As I said, there is something to NOT be said about lack of knowledge... However, I still think a comparison video would be very useful. Thanks.
I would love to see a video designing cabinetry using SketchUp for Ipad

I made the transition. I love it. And i love the USDz export option. It plays nice with Morpholio Trace.

Does it work with shortcuts if we add the keyboard to iPad ?
I currently use Skechup 2017 on my desktop, I've been using the free version of Sketchup for several years when it was owned by Google.
This is what I wanted years ago for my Microsoft Surface Pro and Surface Studios.

You think that it would permit us make more complex models if we use new iPad Pro M2 chip ?
I have it in my iPad, it work very well, for small changes, but is not yet good for to develop a big project like a house
Can’t wait to try this out on my iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil. Thanks!

Can you view multiple angles of an object simultaneously? Is yes, how?
Nope. SketchUp, on any device, uses a single viewport for modeling.
Question is if anybody knows where is the extension manger I wasn’t able to find it neither to download any plugs
Extensions are only available in SketchUp Pro.
How would i be able to get the extension warehouse ?
Extensions can only be used in SketchUp Pro, so you would need to use SketchUp Pro to get to the Extension Warehouse.
Not to be flippant, but a platypus baby is called a “puggle”!
Can you use elevate on iPad?
Possibly... what is elevate?

Yes it is, and it is damn expensive because it apparently only offers 1 year subscriptions at a price a bit over 160 dollars in my country.
Is there anyway I can get it for free?
Is it free ?
It's very costly, for Someone who isn't earning so much.
