Tom and Nova were broke, facing eviction, and electricity cut off. They were living in South Central LA in Crenshaw. Tom went outside to smoke his last half of a cigarette , he sat down and wrote this in 20 minutes. He ran back inside and told Nova that he believed he just wrote the song that would change their lives. They ran an extension cord from his neighbor's house to his so the could have a light. He recorded the song, Nova, shot, and edited it. The next day he borrowed money from Family, friends and an investor. He raised about $1200. He brought an ad. He released it and the rest is history. Music definitely influences, obviously is way more but even a "soundtrack" for your situation it reinforces it, music influenced me a lot, especially like Eminem n DMX etc, I was rebellious etc n violent as a young kid n def just increased it in me n fueled it, I'm not saying try telling anyone not to do music want I'm just saying music is powerful

It may not put you back but it helps keep you down with less thoughts towards how to find a new path out. It's both the music and the person. It's about habitualizing bad behavior/choices and excepting/embracing an abusive codependent relationship with art/entertainment. whether you like it or not your art and expression does influence you and others. You get out what you put in and vice versa. They're not making it to help others but for selfish purposes, ignorant to there effects and reverberations. Art is a tool for self development or self destruction. There are healthy positive outlets/pathways and negative ones that keep people trapped in circles and looping in pain with no resolution. These are just hard truths. You may blame your dog for you losing your train of thought but it's track was already diverted when you made the choice to hit that blunt. Seeking to scapegoat an outside and unrelated person or situation won't resolve the underlying cause of the problem just like making excuses doesn't excuse one from his responsibility. Also, if you observe and learn from discernment, you'll see things like how animals really just want love and attention and are super aware of when and where our attention is placed and when we're distracted. They always come up to you when you're hyper focused on something, especially a screen and they try to interject themselves so that they can receive it. I also personally don't like or think all this attention to screens and technology is natural or healthy and animals are the universe reminding us of what's important and what we're here for, which is to show/ receive love and to serve one another and nurture our best selves and be guardians over the existence of all life. I myself smoke, rap about negative things sometimes, make excuses, defend my positions automatically and reflexively at times and am far from perfect. I've just had a long time to observe and contimplated these problems deeply. I think you’re miscounting that not everyone feels like you and many many kids both White and black HAVE been influenced by songs and games full of violence - most skool shooters were influenced by both of those things

The problem with that is that it perpetuates a negative lifestyle and glorifies guns, drugs and disrespecting women to these kids that live in the suburbs, and then they try to emulate their lifestyle because the music is so popular. The ultimate root is a lack of parental involvement in kids' lives today. The music and the culture raises kids when the parents dont. Perfect example is Future. Juice Wrld said Future's music is the reason that he started drinking lean, and ended up a drug addict (and dead from a drug overdose). Juice emulated what he heard, and paid for it with his life. Future is a poser. He doesnt even live the lifestyle he portrays in his music.
