  • Tonight I try to go ultralight. I am generally around 10kg minimum so I thought it would be interesting to see just how light I could get my pack without sacrificing too much.

    I forgot to mention the actual tent 😂 905g on my scales. Included in the total though.

    Nice one mike, just wondering do you not also take a paper map with you as well ? I always do even though 9 times out of 10 i dont need it, but always good to have in case of no signal or phone packs up for any reason 😉

      Thanks mick. No never taken a paper map. If I was crossing the whole of dartmoor I may but I always plan and download my map so can use it offline as well with GPS.

      Yeah it's a tough one. Get light and go without or just load up with luxuries and enjoy it. I do a bit of both on occasions, just wondered what I could get down to without dying 😂

    Wow, 5kg. I dream of getting down to 10kg (including 2litres of water). At the moment I’m down to 10kg but that’s without water but does include food and fuel.

    • @NoviceWildCamper
      @NoviceWildCamper  Год назад +2

      Yeah water is the killer. My food weighed very little so would have only been 5395g with it so still good. Around 7.5kg if I brought 2 litres and would have saved me a lot of walking 😂

  • @fuffydingo

    I'm at 20lbs for 3 days/50 miles. My extra weight is in food, rain gear and bear bag kit. That weight includes trekking poles and 2 liters of water as well...... and a 1lb stool😊

    How you liking that Durston 1P ? Looks roomy enough with plenty of room for your backpack and boots in the vestibule 👍👍

    • @NoviceWildCamper
      @NoviceWildCamper  Год назад +2

      Yeah and it has two vestibules the same size. Tons of space for storage, more than I'd ever need tbh. Its certainly my favourite tent at the moment. I'd like to see me using through winter but may swap out to my Fjallraven in really bad weather but only because there's more space to sit and be able to live inside and be comfy than the x mid. That or I get a 2p as well 😬😂

    I got mine down to 8kg this weekend which is pretty good for me. But I still had a few bits that I didn’t use. I took a bit too much food as well.

    • @NoviceWildCamper
      @NoviceWildCamper  Год назад +2

      It was a test for me just to see where I'd get to being minimalist but without missing out on too much. There's an obsession with what's ultralight and at the end of the day, if you weigh 70kg and carry a 7kg pack it's really the same as weighing 120kg and carrying a 12kg pack. Mines normally over 10kg and often 14kg so horses for courses 👍

    I had the same problem on Pumlumon Fawr last week, took 500ml water and my filter, but one spring after another was bone dry. Had to drop down a more reliable stream.

    Nice load out I've just packed for tomorrow I can't get that low mine was 6.8 that's without food gas and water I could shave more as I always carry waterproofs and my pack is a cpl hundred grams more than yours and I use my niak which is heavier.i have got a X mid in my basket but it's been in and out over the last 12mnths lol so if I got that I could just break into the 5s but I'm just not sure about 1p trekking pole tents

    • @NoviceWildCamper

      It's a bit more space true but probably not much more than the nick. About a foot longer and 2ft deeper. I use carbon poles on it and on my lanshan (non trekking pole just a carbon pole) and never had any issues.
