RSGB 2023 Convention - Discussion with the Board

At this year's Convention there was a special session with the RSGB Board where the Directors presented the four strategic priorities that the Society will be focusing on until the 2024 AGM. After that the audience had the chance to ask questions.
It was an opportunity for those at the Convention to discuss with the Board how the Society, and its members, can meet the challenges facing amateur radio today. There were a few issues with the microphones for which we apologise.
The discussion was hosted by Don Beattie, G3BJ, who is a former RSGB President. For thirteen years he held the post of Secretary, and then President, of the International Amateur Radio Union (Region 1).
Don is active on HF and LF bands, both under his own call and his contest call G5W, where he has had considerable success in international contests over the years. Although now retired from IARU, he continues to represent the amateur service in discussions in CEPT, European Commission and ITU on the threat from Wireless Power Transmission.

very informative video, Nice to hear Essex Ham mentioned for foundation because nobody has done more to promote the hobby than them. I myself promote the hobby as and when I can and like to participate in as many ham radio events I can, like the convention, hamfest, even Friedrichshafen this year and hopefully 2025. Nice work

Yes, great that we got a mention, and thanks for the kind words. Good to hear that RSGB is interested in possible collaborations, and setting up meetings with groups to discuss future opportunities. Hopefully RSGB will be in touch if they’re interested in engaging with our growing community

The recurring theme was the need for more volunteers. That’s fine, but I’ve yet to see any concerted, full throttled campaign to recruit any?

See nothing about aligning with other regions .UK is the ONLY narrow minded ham hobby in the world .The limits on power , experimenting from home as far as gateways etc .Anyone who has lived in other regions will admit the UK regulations are far behind the rest of the world .
