    The USA and Europe impose an embargo on NATO member Turkey. They cooperate with groups that carry out terrorist acts against Turkey in Syria and feed PKK supporters. Turkey has patience, no matter how loyal it is to NATO, do not test its patience. The West and NATO will suffer from this

    NATO membership protects Turkey against NATO and NATO countries. At the same time, Turkey's membership in NATO protects Turkey against Russia. But that doesn't mean that Turkey agrees with NATO on all points. Since the failed coup attempt, initiated by the USA, Turkey knows that it cannot rely on NATO. Turkey acts according to the motto, keep friends close but keep enemies even closer.

      Turkiye itself is already east, that is, Asia. It is not the southern wing of NATO, it is the southern wing of Russia. Russia is too Turkiye's northern flank. The western flank of China and Pakistan is the northern flank of Iran. 80 years ago, Stalin made a mistake, but Europe's puppet master failed to capitalize on it. By not accepting Turkiye into the European Union and supporting terrorist organisations, he made his aim clear and lost. The third world war will be fought between these 5 countries and the rest of the world, and at the end of this war there will be no place left called the world.

    What Jacques notes about Turkey’s EU membership is true, but it goes further than that. Turkey spent decades passing reforms, including most of Erdogan’s first decade in power. Then, Sarkozy stood up in 2008 and said France would veto Turkish membership, which meant Turkey started to understand that in Europe Islamophobia is a powerful force that will be exploited by politicians for electoral benefit and will ensure that Turkey’s EU membership hopes would never be materialised. After that is when the backsliding on reforms started. And after a long deliberation Turkey has realised its future is in the east, not in the west. Just like Russia has now turned to the east.

    • @morfeicheg
      @morfeicheg 3 месяца назад +44

      Also, Turkey would hardly be accepted into the EU, because Turkey is a fairly large country by European standards and it has some sovereignty. The main countries in the EU do not need potential competitors, they only need vassals who will supply them with cheap labor.

      To be honest, and it pains me to say this as a European, the biggest obstacle to Turkey joining the EU was that 80 million mostly non-white Muslims would get freedom of movement across the EU. That would never be accepted by the populist right, and was a key factor in why Sarkozy declared France would veto Turkish membership to stave off a challenge from Le Pen. And that bogeyman was employed by Boris Johnson (ironically of Turkish descent) and Farage in pushing through Brexit, who lied by claiming Britain as an EU member could not stop Turkish membership (despite having the same veto that France has).

      Aah, and you are of course the ultimate arbiter of what is or what isn’t “brainwashed”. Sorry, but it is a fact that Sarkozy’s motivation for publicly stating he would veto Turkish membership of the EU was to a significant extent a move to ward off a challenge from Le Pen’s National Front by stealing a march on riding on the coat tails of Islamophobia. And it’s a fact that Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage lied about the U.K. being unable to stop Turkey joining the EU despite it having a veto just like France and rode on the coat tails of xenophobia and giant posters of non-white Muslim immigrants “flooding” Britain.

    I would like to explain one more thing. Which country in Europe really has an army? Greece? a complete puppet state, colonised by the USA, living off the resources of Europe. Germany? colonised by the USA since it lost the 2nd world war, and although its administration knows this, its people are unaware of this, it has a uniform but it is empty inside. france? a country whose army has rotted in the last 40 years because of its reliance on nuclear weapons, unable to even fix its own internal chaos. italy? yes, there is something, but it is self-sufficient. maybe. spain? the only self-sufficient country in europe. Turkey is not a European country, neither because of its territory nor its religion. It does not have the kinship of the old European kingdoms, that is the real reason. Russia is playing a game with the USA, people are dying, but neither of them cares. they are nothing but partners who appear to be enemies. nato is neither the army of the USA nor of Europe. nato is a special army that protects the interests of the money barons. countries that cannot understand this will disappear over time. in a possible war, it would be very normal for turkey to leave the nato or declare neutrality. because who you are really fighting for and for what purpose is important here. It is clear that Turkey has no intention of being a pawn in the plan of the giants.

    I disagree with Jacques in that Russia needs Türkiye to facilitate some way out of the Ukraine conflict - Russia has that conflict firmly under control - it will stop when Russia chooses it to stop.
    Jacques also seems unaware that the Eu is also in terminal decline as a result of decades of neoliberalist economic policies inflicted from Brussels - a dysfunctional economic structure purposely designed to inflict austerity and division on Eu citizens by a general wage race to the bottom and a profit race to the top for the industrial states.
    Through the sabotage of Nordstream by the US the French & German industrial engines of the Eurozone have been destroyed for generations - Eu member nations are in a recessionary spiral to depression.

    Jacques gives the first sensible account of Turkey's strong allegiance to NATO and the west, despite the contempt it faces (often with reason) from that camp. Russia and Turkey are in a deadly embrace and Erdogan has successfully exploited this to Russia's disadvantage. However I think Jacques overestimates the strength of the bond between Russia and Turkey. In the last period, say a year or so, there has clearly been a distancing on Putin's part away from Erdogan. You could say Putin will no longer be 'played' by Erdogan. This coincides with US also being less receptive to Erdogan. Perhaps US and Russia don't need to compete for Turkey - despite this idea that Erdogan is a successful international player Turkey is really in a poor postion. Objectively it needs to go East but won't. Turkey is making conciatory noises to Russia but I think there is a real schism that won't be solved. If NATO were to attack Russia I don't think Turkey will sit on the fence but we'll see.

      Such a poor comment. It has no touch with the reality, not at all. Turkiye will never sacrifice his sons and daughters for NATO if they attack Russia. Over the last 60 years NATO was behind all of the coups and coup attempts in Turkiye, and they have been supporting enemies of Turkiye in the region since 1980s. All these cost trillions of dollars of economic losses. After the last coup attempt in 2016, Turkish state and Turks know that NATO and the EU cannot be trusted. Today, let alone helping Turkiye ,NATO and the EU members openly support terrorist groups like PKK against Turkiye, despite they officially recognize PKK as a terrorist organization.
      Your comment clearly demonstrates your lack of knowledge of Turkiye's geopolitical and economic significance. Open up the map and see where Turkiye is. First of all, Turkiye controls the entry to Black Sea from the Mediterranean Sea and entry to Mediterranean Sea from the Black Sea which is crucial in a war against Russia. Just remember WWi, how the Russian Empire crumbled, and Bolsheviks came to power when the French and the British Army were defeated in Dardanelles and they failed to help Russia. Second, many oil and natural gas pipelines pass through Turkiye. Most of the NG coming from the ME, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan should pass through Turkiye. Third, Turkiye has a large sphere of influence. Through its historical and Turkic ties, it can reach states and people of Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Eastern Turkestan (in China), and many Turkic states in Russia such Chuvashia, Tatarstan, Bashkhurdistan, Yakutia, .... Also, through its historic and religious ties Turkiye has ties with many countries spanning from Morocco to Somalia, from Middle East to Caucasia, from ME to Balkans, from Caucasia to Central Asia, from Pakistan/Afghanistan to Bangladesh and then to Malaysia/Indonesa. Fourth, the Western countries have significant investments in Turkiye. Fifth, today Turkiye is an important gateway to Europe for immigrants. Today there are about 4-5 million refugees in Turkiye. They stay in Turkiye thanks to an agreement between the EU and Turkiye. Sixth, Turkiye has siginifcant reserves of boron and thorium which will be very important in energy production, military technologies, and material science in the future.

    As a Turk, I can say that I hope we leave NATO. We are embargoed in every field and NATO sees us as a second-class country. We are tired of the US's bilateral policy. A more equitable growth together with BRICS+ will benefit us. Losing Turkey, which is located in the middle of the world and provides an important intercontinental logistics opportunity, will put NATO in a difficult situation.

    • @cemdursun

      BRICS would make Turkish government and potentially even the future governments more oppressive and authoritarian. And why are you speaking for the country saying "we" in every sentence. You "as a Turk" is not the only perspective of Turks on this. My perspective is the opposite of yours. I don't want Turkey to be a country aligned with unprogressive countries like China and Russia. Reading your last sentence, it is easy to see you are just another troll bot because your intentions are not in favor of Turkey, they are simply anti-NATO. Russian propaganda in Turkey is so strong, I can even see it within my west-leaning friends and colleagues living in Turkey. For those of us Turks living abroad, there is a stark difference in perceptions of reality on this.
