I think its nice that you're going to bring joy to someone by gifting them the paints. Also the bloopers always make my day. Hope everyone's doing well and have a great day!
Thank you. I'm so glad you stay long enough to watch the bloopers, lol. Hopefully someone will need these paints. Looks like we might have one good candidate already.
Have you tried putting full and half pan in the wells? In watching the designer's video demonstrating his product, he shows putting half and full pans in the wells. That would certainly provide the flexibility you desire.
It's so sweet how you're gifting the paints. I don't need them because went on a shopping binge during the quarantine last year and bought enough paints to last me a lifetime. I hope they'll go to someone who'll treasure it it. It's always nice to see the bloopers. they're fun to watch.
I really like that palette and the colors you went with. If I had to change anything was maybe take one of those yellows to put in another green like you mentioned you wanted another green. I have way too many paints and have yet to get to use them so I hope you find someone who would put them to good use.
Oooohh Mijello paintss. Those are the only brand of paints I have, and it is just gifted but I love them (I haven't bought anything else, it's scary to spend money and I might not like it..) My favorite color is the Ultramarine light, the granulation is beautiful. I enjoy those paints sooo much, it made me love watercolors but I don't really know what other brands feel like so I can't compare it. The way you paint wet in wet looks so easy but I can't do that without being stressed, I think I'm a slow painter (and I live in a tropical country) so the paper dries fast. I like the painting though, the muted ground really makes the sky stand out, and it's balanced, it has the soft edges and the more rough or clear details. Soooo even though you didn't like is, we do! It's amazing!
I truly enjoy watching your videos and wanted to tell you how I’d handle the Winsor & Newton paints in a half or whole pan if I get them: I’d use a toothpick to add a touch of glycerine. I was going to try and save money by paint making from locally sourced clays/stones but spinal surgery last summer that went awry has me in a hospital bed. I did learn from YT that even a tiny drop can help. Hope this sparks new ideas! If I get them, I’ll try to make a short video showing how it goes!

Sue, it just made my day that you said you were so excited to see my new video; thank you! This cloverleaf palette is even more expensive now than when I bought it, plus they're charging almost $13 shipping, too. Ouch! So I definitely understand that it's a "someday" purchase. That makes for a pricey palette. It sure is fun, though! So glad you were here today. Oh, and when you said water bottle for your back, is that for soreness or did I misunderstand? Talk to you soon!

It's SUCH an expensive palette! I had birthday money a couple of years ago, which I ended up using to buy mine because I couldn't justify the price otherwise. In Aussie dollars I think it was something like $110? I do love it though, but that is some very expensive plastic, lol.
Your video was PERFECT timing for me. Will be filling some full pans today. Want to try your method of leaving space to use for lighter colors. Haven't had problems, that I have been aware of, rewetting my Windsor and Newton tube colors in pans BUT the half pan set I bought in the 80's HAS ALWAYS been a problem to rewet. Saved it for plein air but if I found the right person would pass them on. I have a major problem of not waiting for paper to dry. Usually it's because I feel time crunched. Thanks again for another enjoyable video.
Oh, that's great, Eileen, about the timing! What paint are you putting in your full pans? Interesting about the W&N paints. Wonder what's up with that. Yeah, I'm really impatient to keep painting. I hate waiting for paper to dry, and this paper takes forever. I should go dig out my heat gun, wherever it is.
@@MirandaWatsonArt Actually filling with Windsor and Newton. :) Have had my tube set in a small cute metal box that works out for home but not plein air. In a couple of weeks, I'm doing a watercolor plein air workshop at a local garden. Decided I wanted the option of taking the tube set versus the half pan set. Picked up a Mendon palette. Have enough room to switch out some of the colors from half pans to full pans. Will probably bring most of my travel sets and decide which one to use last minute. Have gotten so frustrated with the Windsor and Newton half pan set that don't want to take that even through it's one of the more convenient ones I have for plein air.
I bought most of them a long time ago when I took some classes and that was the brand recommend and even more importantly available. It's amazing how few of the tubes became unusable through many, many years of storage.
Don't know if it makes a difference but I almost always start a painting session with the Windsor and Newton putting a drop or two of distilled water on the pans. Try as much as possible to use distilled water with watercolors so colors don't get affected by any minerals or other in water.
It’s fun to watch you create palettes with the tubes! I’m too much of a rookie, I just bought a set with pans😂 though if colors need replacing, I will definitely buy tubes to refill them to be more cost effective! I actually liked how the painting turned out as it has kind of a surreal feel to it. Almost like when you look out a distant landscape and it’s hazy due to heat or something like that! Ahh
Thanks, Alexis! Sometimes it's better to buy them already in pans because they are formulated slightly differently, but these re-wet just fine. And you're right, it's fun!
I use my Cloverleaf palette quite a lot, I love its aesthetics. I ended up carving extra pan holes into that bit which is solid plastic (I glued them underneath, lol). It's such a strange configuration and I have no idea why the whole thing isn't just made up of wells. I've found that my palette has stained big time and I don't think it'll ever go back to pure white plastic, ha! I like your colour choices....yellow green is a colour I use all the time, it's so handy for light coloured foliage. Red violet is useful too! You can get separate inserts for this box for interchanging paint colours. I see you were sensible and taped your sketchbook page edges. I should have done this in my book because I've killed it, haha! I liked your painting, especially the camels in the background. Have fun on your trip! 😆
Hi, Becky! I agree; this palette just looks great, and it's actually very cleverly designed. When I put the link for it in this video, I noticed they sell the palette inserts separately, so that's cool! But alas, Buying Freeze. I can make my own, though! I don't mind staining, as long as the palette still function well, lol. Yeah, I end up taping mine all the time because I noticed it will go through to the edges of the other pages, darn it.
I've been looking at that pallet for quite a while. Pulling off the side piece brilliant. I have to stop watching. I am now actually considering buying the non-vegan Mission Gold set just to get the dark green. It's gorgeous! Blessed with more than I need-happy winning to someone who really needs it.

You answered two essential questions I had about this palette. How large it was and if the stationary palette could be replaced with individual pans. Thanks! That was very, very helpful. I wonder if you are still using this palette. It looks lovely but the size is a bit large for plein air for me. I did see another artist using this palette but they took the flap you removed and slipped it to the back of their watercolor sketchbook and clipped it on to secure it. It was a clever idea if that helps you or others.
I do use this palette. I love it. BUT I do not take it on trips with me - I just use it at home in the studio. That's a good idea about slipping that one part into the sketchbook. Thanks for that!
I dry out my Winsor Newton tube paints with just a drop or two of pure glycerine mixed in each half pan. (I bought a 6 oz. bottle at CVS pharmacy inexpensively). I have used them this way for a year without any problem except for Viridian. It does help to spray them ahead of time. Winsor Newton paints were the only paints available to me locally at the time and I love them. However, I've since found a wonderful art store within a half hour of me. Hence, I now have a few Daniel Smith tubes also.

Just a heads up for those who want to use W&N dry. The Winser & Newton pans only have a touch more glycerin than the tubes. Its the only difference. Thats why they rewet better than the dried tube paint. A specialist at Winser & Newton confirmed this. I was advised to add one drop to each half pan or 2 drops to a full pan after pouring and stir with tooth pick or any tiny pick. I do this because W&N has colors I cannot live without and I like using my paint dry. The colors are so clean and fresh. No other has a Potters Pink quite as beautiful, or a Dioxazine Violet that stays vibrant not drying to a dull purple. The French Ultramarine doesn't dry dull but stays beautiful. I LOVE W&N. I also do this with Daniel Smith premetek pigments because once dried for too long, its a pain to rewet. The hardest ever!
Thank you, Renee. I hope as many people as possible read your comment. This and a few other comments about the glycerin have certainly cleared things up for me. :-)

@@MirandaWatsonArt Miranda, I looked again on your video and those Windsor & Newton I don't think they are professional, I recognize the packaging. The professionals I have says"professional" on it and it's in a silver like aluminum foil material tube. The ones i see you have it says "artist" and it's in a white tube. I don't know if it's the same. Or maybe it depends where you bought them? Are you in the US? And those are 5 ml tubes? Since I use watercolors I don't use those. But I only use them once for swatching. If you're interested let me know. 😊
I'm sorry I don't mean to be picky but if I get them even free I want to know that I use them. And to have at least a half a pan in each tube Thanks 😊
@@MirandaWatsonArt Miranda, I'm sorry I forgot to mention I really love your painting, I mostly do abstract work, I'm not very good for realistic. I also wanted to ask you always use sketchbooks to paint? I found at least 3 different watercolor papers, not expensive at all, gives very nice results, especially if you like granulating, I don't know if you like that. But if you're interested let me know, I will tell you the names and where to get them. Oh, those 4 W&N paints I have I don't have problems reverting, i just put a drop of water on each about 10 minutes before I start. Thanks
Thanks, Judith; appreciate you saying so! I use regular paper occasionally; mostly Arches because that's what I had the most of, but YES, I would love to know your suggestions. Thank you!
The wet on wet technique made everything so soft and dreamy in the painting. It was really pretty.
Thanks, Lisa!
Keep your hands still
Yes! This is an older video and I have since learned my lesson about keeping my hands still. I may still slip up here and there, but it's something I always try to keep in mind!

Thanks for replying so quickly Miranda. I now see that I was both too quick and too blunt in my comment. Apologies.
