Thanks for clarifying the motor windings and the attached link. This is very useful information and not easy to find out . Thats why i really wanted to know this subject fully. I have recently studied motors at trade school but they did not cover 2 speed. I will have a good read of this in the next week or so and might have a further question but hopefully i get it. Definitely a thumbs up for this. Thank you. Michael
We are replacing a 2 speed motor at the moment. We found 4 wires on the motor side, U1, V1, W1, 1 and can't seem to figure out where the wire that is labelled 1 would go. It is an OEM motor that has been repaired over the years. The tech who used to wire it is no longer with us and no one knows where the wire would go. The motor that came off only had 3 wires on each side. Anyone have any insight they can share?
Hi about electricity, Good video but I need one clarification, in control wiring diagram you mentioned that K2 NC in series with K3, while explaining high speed mode if we press S2 K2 will engage that time K2 NC become NO then K3 will not engage. Please clarify me whether it is NC or NO Thank you
Hi! This is a good video. But it would be better if you showed how the motor windings are connected through the contractors. Because a two speed motor is a special type motor. Thank you.
I mean control and power circuit diagrams are clear. What I don't understand, it's internal motor windings configuration, i.e. how the contactors change the poles of the motor windings. Thank you.
it should be okay to treated as two separate motor with exclusive interlock, but what if I need to reduce the starting current? (around 15kW motor) star delta use all 6 leads, but this motor only use either 3 leads to achieve high low speed

Please reply
AboutElectricity Hi Mr electricity, can all 3 phase motor, with 6 output cable can be applied with star delta connection ? , some motor motor only have 3 output cable ( star)
Hi AboutElectricity ,thank you for the video. I quite agree with you that it is two speed motor with star tapping. Could you develop a ladder diagram for this ?
I agree with the previous comment. Without the motor windings clearly shown its not much use. Does it have to be a special motor winding. Its not a normal 3 phase motor i assume ?? Please redo this video and clarify exactly what the motor details are and it would be good to have the motor name plate. I dont understand how anyone can give this a thumbs up from a learning point of view. Hopefully you redo the video please as i am subscribed to your channel because of your previous great videos . Mike
Michael Costello it is special motor but motor terminal box looks the same as standard 3ph motor. It has 6 terminals marked U1,V1,W1 and U2,V2,W2.All you have to wire is power to these terminals. You don't change winding connections because they are done inside the motor. All you do is energize relevant contactors.
Ok. Can you put a link to such a motor so we can read about it. You say its a designated 2 speed motor . Its not a normal AC induction motor with 6 external wires for wiring in Star/Delta
That is correct. It has 6 terminals and might look like standard induction motor but it isn't. You will find the difference on the motor name plate -two speeds. Some more info here www.elkmotor.com.tr/EN/two-speed-dahlender-winding-types.pdf
AboutElectricity The speed of the rotor depends from: poles that is the copper wiring and you can not change it unless you will wiring it again, and from frequency. So you need to change the input frequency to change the speed,in this case speed is the same
My friend, I strongly encourage you to double check this by typing in google "two speed motor" A quick quote from wikipedia: " A Dahlander motor (also known as a pole changing motor, dual- or two speed-motor) is a type of multispeed induction motor, in which the speed of the motor is varied by altering the number of poles; this is achieved by altering the wiring connections inside the motor."

OK. Thanks for thumbs up.
Thank you! came across one of these today, was very confused

Thanks for the video can i have a dual speed video where I'll be using a seletor switch for slow n fast configuration? With explanation please👏
Good illustration. Could you plz do more other schematics showing the energized states .
Thank you! Very informative
Boss in high speed mode for holding k3 u used an additional NO of k2 but I think one NO of k2 sufficient for that ,is that mandatory? Thanks
I belive it is just for safety reason.Being sure that K2 connect winding W1,V1,U1 before K3 connect power supply to W2,V2,U2.
Sir this is similar to star delta?
Very nice explanation
Hi. Do you have info on how to wire one of these 2-speed Dahlender motors to a VFD?
No.I haven't seen one of these wired to VFD.
@@AboutElectricity Thanks. I'm hoping I should be able to, but only using one of the two speeds and not switching, using the VFD for RPM control.
@@TinkerInTheShop ok. I did not know that you want to keep it wired only to one speed. In that case I think you will be able to make it work with VFD.
@@AboutElectricity both speeds would be nice, but not essential. And most importantly I just need the thing to run one way or another. Thanks
thank you !
Hi about electricity,

You're right. The diagram is not perfect.
1:04 in series with K3 coil is K2 normally open contact.
Hi! This is a good video. But it would be better if you showed how the motor windings are connected through the contractors. Because a two speed motor is a special type motor. Thank you.
Soslan Revazov there is a power drawing 2:11 but I will try to place contactors and then draw connections between them and motor terminals.
I mean control and power circuit diagrams are clear. What I don't understand, it's internal motor windings configuration, i.e. how the contactors change the poles of the motor windings. Thank you.
@@RS_83 here is no answer after 5 years.
Please advise the following situation:
a three phase 2 speed motor, 6 leads, low speed=only u1 v1 w1, high speed=only u2 v2 w2
it should be okay to treated as two separate motor with exclusive interlock,
but what if I need to reduce the starting current?
(around 15kW motor)
star delta use all 6 leads,
but this motor only use either 3 leads to achieve high low speed
Very good
thanks for usefull videos.....is it Delta/star motor or?
You can find star delta starter on my playlist. This is two speed motor.
@@AboutElectricity thanks....then its dahlander and star starter
Sir
2 speed motor he
Iski name plate missing he

(1) 6 wire nikal rhi he motor se

Please reply
Sir, How can I run two speed motor in star connection. Please send me wirnig diagram
How to calculate current drawn for High speed and Low Speed.
In this condition how will be the motor winding
Apakah ini menggunakan Kontaktor khusus dan push button khusus untuk menambah kecepatan pada motor 3 phase
Assalamualaikum saudara..boleh berkenalan dan berkongsi ilmu dgn saya?
👍👍👍
Can the torque be the same in both speeds?
Hellll no playa
Aux Contact K2 connected to K3 coil should be NO, should not be NC as shown in your schematic.
ohhhhhhhhhhhh in low speed motor is running by supplying power to only one terminals of the motor coils in the power circuit 😂😂😂😂
Hi. Was this presentation usefull for you ? If yes give me a thumb up. If not leave me a comment why and the next one will be better :)

Hi AboutElectricity ,thank you for the video. I quite agree with you that it is two speed motor with star tapping.
Could you develop a ladder diagram for this ?
@@mobileclub6935 most of them yes.But you have to check motor name plate and nominal voltage.
Why k2 is connected in star?
That is the way the 2 speed motor works. One speed - K1 is energized, second speed - K2 and K3 are energized.

Please make it bold
This is star-delta wiring, and will not change the speed of the 3 phase motor
It is not star/delta wiring because it is two speed motor

Star delta?Of course not!Where is the timer then?
yeah buddy even me also confused I thought it's star delta but it's duso speed motor
No good answer that I can usep.
Very nice explanation
