Raid is owned by a gambling company and uses extreme predatory techniques to exploit their player base. They are the worst of the worst. Stop playing while you can. Or at the very least dont spend.
While i dont judge Willjum for taking Raids sponsorship. It is a huge problem as this game has many issues, Gambling as mentioned by Zeni, Please watch any one of the raid shadow legends reviews or Sponsorship controversy on youtube, or even just read a CNN report. www.ccn.com/raid-shadow-legends-just-got-caught-in-the-stupidest-lie-imaginable/
Some more advice from a successful solo who's also terrible at gun play: 1) Keep a paper and pen handy, or a text document. I write down every square that a heli goes down in, squares of big bases or bases whos players are giving you a hard time. This is helpful for when you feel like simply roaming for pvp or decayed bases, as you'll know where some stuff is. I used to write down squares I was downed in, but with the new map death icon, saves some space. Also good if you plan on staying on a server for a while to keep a list of trustworthy and not players. I know people often change their steam names, but this has paid dividends when looking for certain items to trade for. 2) Practice gunplay on aiming servers. It really does help, even if you're bad at it, to have some understanding of each gun's recoil, and it'll help you find one you prefer. 3) Doorcamping works. People will talk shit, but all is fair in love, war, and Rust. If you've been doorcamped before, gotta adjust your base build to take that option away. 4) Get good at farming good. @Willjum mentioned the snow biome as the best for nodes. This is true, but on every map, in every biome, there spots where nodes are far more likely to spawn. I'd write those down for the wipe. As for scrap, nothing beats the ocean still. I like the kayak, and if anything this has made the ocean waaaaay less populated early on in wipe, with the only other boats I've seen being a duo going to rig, and a group that took the rhib off cargo. Don't forget the Outpost's resource exchange vendor. 4500 stone=15000 wood. Don't forget to tap your jackhammer to save durability. 5) Plant farming is still very profitable. You can still do the Cloth to scrap vendor. It's been nerfed, but as a solo you often have more cloth than to know what to do with. Tea is so incredibly useful that I'm shocked more solos don't invest a bit of base space for it. Not only are the buffs great at saving you time, you can sell the tea for a decent prices, be it sulfur or scrap. 6) If you do have big clan neighbors, talking can really help. On the car update, I made a small garage, and a 6 person clan happened to move in within sniper range. I got killed twice coming over, but eventually I got a word in to say, hey I'm your little solo neighbor, just farming some BPs, I don't keep more than TC and I'm not planning on getting above tier 2, so could y'all play nice for me maybe? Not only did this work, I joined them for the next wipe, was good fun. Dialogue and politeness can get you far more in this game than steady aim sometimes. Solo is all about balancing risk vs reward. I mean the whole game is, but as a solo, your risk is typically everything you're carrying, and maybe even your vehicle or horse. So the name of the game is to limit that risk while maximizing that reward. @Willjum really nailed it with the "return every 10-15 minutes to drop" rule. The logic is, if you make 6 trips with smaller amounts of items, and you die once, you've lost 1/6 of what you were doing. If you do 3 trips full inventory, and die once, you've lost 1/3, and you're pissed because it was full inventory. Never assume you'll just win it back, because it's just you. Play smart and you'll at least carve yourself out a spot. LOVE the content Willjum, keep it coming!
My question is, how do people hop in expecting to get jackhammer, I have played for a while and hardly ever come across one, people make it seem so easy to get or I’m just missing something.
@@maxmartindale6090 i know that, it's just cringe to see youtubers acting so excited over raid shadow legends because of the script they gave them. Raid doesnt even try to make the script look real
One tip that I use. When farming wood, don't cut the tree all the way down. Get 4 or 5 trees on the verge of falling. Basically one or two hits away. Then when you are ready take them all down and dip. When a tree falls it makes a lot of noise, so this eliminates the odds of someone hearing and countering you.
I’ve been neglecting getting back into solo ever since my friends quit trios, but this honestly gave me the confidence to try it again. It’s good to know there are other solos who aren’t great at PVP, and that still enjoy the game regardless of their skill against others
Look at the brightside. Now you need to invest a bit of scrap, but also you will encounter people much more rarely. Also you can buy scuba gear while you're getting a boat so you can escape any encounter if you do happen to come by someone.
Pumpkins are for sure better overall, but if you're in a fight and need guaranteed heals. Mushrooms > pumpkins. Pop a pumpkin or 6 and get shot 2 seconds later. And it was basically worthless. Pop 6 mushrooms, 18 health.
You know what’s funny willjum. This is the first video i watch of you, but when u started talking about the mental aspect of learning how to let go of your possessions, i felt that i really needed that; mentally & emotionally. And I am not talking just about rust but it really is a mind state that extends far beyond success in game but out of it, success and mental stability in life. I really needed that highlighted for me, especially now. Thanks :)
I've never actually played rust but I have watched hours and hours of you guys and have to say your explanation is probably the smartest and healthiest description I've heard so far. Maybe one day I'll actually invest in a PC and jump on a server but until then thx for the entertainment 👍
Yep same here I'm looking forward to play rust soon on pc or console. For now im playing a copy mobile version of rust ( last island survival). I play a solo too and i naturally apply things what welljum said in this vid.
i would probably wait for console release and see how that is, also id recommend watching some pc building videos and maybe build ur own as you would save a lot more money
I recently got back into Rust and decided to try and live out a peaceful life in a snowy mountain as a hermit. Then I watched this video and it affirmed all the reasons for where I put my base. In the snow away from spawns, not near any neighbors or roads, and a couple monuments nearby that I can go through every couple hours.
I think you are actually my favorite Rust youtuber now. I'm a quiet person, so it's nice to not hear people screaming about loot and raging over deaths
i know u did this video some time ago but this strategy really helped me. playing solo is my favorite way to play rust and i was a mediocre player, not always leaving primitive and usually being unsatisfied with my wipe. but with a little bit of experience and this strat u teached ive been getting some really good solo wipes and now im always at tier two guns sometimes even end game. thank you willjum!!
Haven’t gotten back into rust since legacy, the game is intimidatingly different. This solo strategy and chill mindset you’ve shown is by far the most motivated I’ve been to get going again. Awesome video. Thank you
omg u have no idea how long i struggled being grubbed constantly thank you so much i have about 400 hrs and im always solo because every person i meet just plays one day then never talks again and it is rough playing solo but tysm bro
hey Willjum I've been playing rust for about 3-4 years now on and off playing with only about 800 hours, but i really took this video to heart almost every wipe i play, i play as a Solo and although I'm super crap at pvp i never get angry or toxic, this video really shared my experience with rust, so thanks bro and hope you have a great next wipe.
Willjum is a great and relaxing rust person that i can just listen and watch his videos as well as learn from them. He's a overall great RUclipsr and a awesome personality.
I have been a solo player for a couple hundred hours now, and I find immense joy in this playstyle. The biggest part of it is just as you say: one must be able to let go of your loot and accept loss. Getting sniped at random is Rust. Getting jumped by two dudes while smacking barrels is Rust. Winning a battle only to get murked by a bear while healing is Rust. This game is losing often, but when you prevail it is truly wondrous.
I'm a little bit late here, but thank you for the solo guide. I'm playing Rust on a slower PC, so it takes about an hour to load, and sometimes I experience FPS drops which cause me to get killed. I don't know why, but I still really enjoy playing Rust, even if I lose everything or have to wait for many hours when my game crashes. I also enjoy watching Rust movies and videos, such as yours. I like your editing style, music, humor, and gameplay. In the future, when I can buy a better PC to play Rust, I will remember how I watched your videos and tried to play the game on 40-50 FPS :D
Just got my external harddrive so I have the storage space for Rust and can restart my solo adventures. The more chill farm episode you had a while back was good inspiration for a more relaxed experience.
Great video and great advice! I play solo as well. One thing ive been doing lately that i think helps is similar to your idea of farming after losing a fight. If i take a a big L sometimes ill just spawn in naked randomly and just roam around a bit. Helps you see more of the map and you may even find a decayed base or a good raid target. Keep up the good work Wiljum!
“May people craft spears at the start. I would argue that they’re almost completely pointless.” Well they have a point, its the side you stab people with
@Wolverine FTW Don't listen to some wet dream from a "Thick Cheek's" Sleep Time Adventure into swallowing whatever he swallows in his said "69" get to you . That was funny. post on my dry friend! Thanks for the laugh.
One thing that’s helped me a lot for being a solo if I start out on a new server with no bp’s I’ll try to build next to a harbor. Low grade/crude is insane for getting down plenty of furnaces to upgrade, and it’s a tier 1 monument so no one really goes there much. Can get some pretty decent scrap as well to make your way down the tier lists
O No not Raid Shadow Legends :(....... ......But But But ./sigh......you the only chill Rust player out there... so I I I..Gratz on the sponsor..You earned it.
i understand youre disappointment man, but bare in mind i genuinely enjoy the game and have been playing for over a year, not to mention raid actually support creators, unlike yt who barely pay anything, raid allows creators to keep doing youtube
“I get a lot of sponsors but don't sponsor unless I enjoy it, that being said todays sponsor is raid shadow legends” never heard more bullshit in my life
I’ve been watching rust for 4 years now and i finally got a pc about a week and a half ago and I’ve been playing rust non stop since then and this honestly helped me out a lot Bc it makes me so mad when I die especially when I have a inventory of loot. Now I’ll start dropping loot off rather than running around with it and build farther from spawn points in the beginning & I’m gonna try to keep a positive mindset all the time but it is hard on such a toxic game 😂
Hey man another great idea is to turn off global chat and turn off voices I've been playing rust since 2013 and ive had to take so many breaks due to the toxicity tilting me but the second everybody is muted it doesnt feel that toxic it just feels like the way rust was ment to be played without the community being shit
I just got into rust, great video. I've been solo all of my 60hrs and I've just naturally been doing 80% these things, I'm glad I've been doing it right and honestly solo isn't that bad if you are just patient!
Toxic feedback loop is the worst part of Rust. I wish people would remember "Is only game, why you have to be mad?" when they either win or lose fights. Poor losing is understandable, but sore winners are the absolute worst. Example: Wipe day, I attempted a play on a dude farming, he had a metal pick and I hadn't bped it yet, plus maybe some farm. Didn't see he already had a revolver, hit my crossie shot but he won. I say, from the ground, "gg, heard the pick and tried the play but you got me, nice shooting." He comes up and tells me my mother is a whore, I deserved to fucking die, and he hated me, and wished I died behind my computer as well. Now, I'm 32, so that shit doesn't usually phase me, but I respawn and just kinda sat in my base for a minute to reflect on that poor guy's attitude. Like, dude won, got a compliment from the guy he beat, and that was his response? Now I'm sure I'll get "get gud" and "welcome to rust" replies, but was any of that necessary? But, in this game, you gotta pick that bag, spawn back in, and get back to it. Welcome to Rust.
@@SturmVogel96 Oh I meant in no way to imply this is generational. I've heard men older than me completely berate children over stupid game stuff. Again, "Is only game, why you have to be mad?" really needs to be a firm gamer creed.
@@finn4kill429 To each his own, however I didn't cry. I was kind and complimentary, and he was a dick. You're allowed to be a dick, but it typically doesn't engender you any friends.
@DinkleDigeroo I fundamentally disagree. People get toxic for entirely circumstantial reasons that they personally could have chosen to act differently/evolve with the meta. As for losing boats, the whole point is to build a kayak. You can do rig easily with a kayak. Yes cargo costs 200 for a motorboat now, but considering what you can get in drops, not bad. Also it has a rhib on the back that you then keep or use to get your boat back. It's always been harder as a solo. As for scrap, grow some cloth, they literally added farm stuff, just sell it. Tea sells like crazy. Cloth, while nerfed, sells good too. Gotta evolve with the meta. I know it sucks sometimes, but that's life with a game that changes. Try being a longtime Magic the Gathering player when they added the planeswalker cardtype. You roll with the punches or you get knocked down.
"There are no spawn points in the snow" I've been playing console version and this is NOT true. I've spawned in the cold and snow many times, it's very annoying because I had no resources to stay warm and there was no food. I also disagree with woods. If you are a NEW player building your first base the woods are great because there's lots of resources around. You just have to look out for anyone with guns and try to avoid building too close to other bases.
I would agree, console rusts smaller map size makes it hard to keep your base unknown so any concealment helps, plus door campers are pretty easy to deal with from my experience.
@@liammyers5903 well dont play console version of it sell ur outdated console and buy a pc and theres way more advantages if you need a pc for uni work aswell and if u wanna make videos
That was the most wholesome sponsor shoutout.💛 I usually just ignore those parts in Rust videos. Just the fact that you included your level and the time spent. Shows sometimes it’s not all about the money.
It's included in the script Raid gives to everyone they sponsor. It's about nothing but the money lol, Raid is a disguised slot machine that persuades children into constant micro-transactions. Nobody promoting it actually likes it. Raid dumps half it's profits back into marketing, paying a shit ton of money to their sponsors. They say they like it because that's the only way they'll get the massive amounts of money they're offered. I'm not saying this guy's worse for doing it for that reason, because Raid's the real problem. I'm just saying be careful not to fall for their extremely shady marketing and business practices. Not everything Is what it seems to be. :)
3 years later and after 50 hours of solo accomplishing nothing, getting killed all the time, I finally managed to built and run a 2-1 base and got close to a furnace. all because of the tip to set a goal every time I go out and return every 15'. Thanks Willjum, love your content
There's one big factor you haven't included in your video: diversification. Building multiple small bases so you don't have to worry about upkeep is critical for successful solo plays. Door camped in one base? Spawn somewhere else. Got raided overnight? No big deal, I've got five more.
Thank you sir . Of all the videos and all the faqs, you sir, have enlightened me the most . Every morning all my shit is gone and I delete the game just to redownload it in a few hours . I shall follow this multi base path 🤙🏻
Yoooo the best tip I find the most useful which was actually surprising was the don’t build your base in the Forrest😅😅I only been building Forrest bases solo lmfaoooo then again I’ve only been onlined a handful of times🤷
Thank you so much for this video! I've been following for a while now and finally took the plunge to get the game on my PC. I've died so much, but your videos have given me so many tips and tricks that I am rarely frustrated at the losses! Great vibes, man!
Yo dude u like really blow my mind with ur content and ur mindset I realy appreciate that u take the time out of ur day to do this shit and make these vids and I hope u go far with the RUclips thing
Good video, but I personally disagree with the notion of snow being better for the solo than the forest. Big groups love the snow for the exact same reasons you described, and if you're just out there in the open in their neighborhood, then in my experience, they are going to evict you. For me, building a low-key, but strong base (2x1 honeycombed [top & sides] with the main square being an armored suicide bunker) that is well hidden in the forest, but still close enough to monuments and roads without being in view of them, is the way to go. You’ll have great cover, and you won’t have to worry about door campers, you’ll still be close enough to roads/monuments/action. The key, for me at least as a more defensive player, is to just keep out of sight, and never let anyone see you enter or exit that base. Don't build it in an open field.... hide it in some thick trees. And don’t make your base look big or expensive and like a tasty snack for the raiders. But still make it strong enough (ala armored suicide bunker, armored door on the interior of the airlock, garage doors, etc) so that if someone does blow off a stone wall or your front metal door, there’s a decent chance they’ll move along when they see the armor. And if you hear someone running around outside, stand still and don't make a sound and let them know you are inside. People door camp because they hear you stomping around and working in there. When you hear distant pitter-patter, stand still and don’t do anything and just wait and listen until the coast is clear. And if you're still unsure, then just run out there as a naked or kill yourself and spawn to a nearby sleeping bag to check it out. Once you have that and are well situated, I like to build two more bases. One of them is an exact clone of the base I described above, but in a slightly different area (far enough away from the first one that you’re spreading out from the same raiders/giving yourself access to different monuments/etc; but close enough that’s it’s an easy and safe sprint to your other base. Spread your loot out between these bases. If you wake up and find out your OG base got raided, there’s a good chance your backup one is still there with everything you need. Starting over sucks, especially as a solo, so make a backup. Then once you are doing well, have lots of guns, etc; if you want to really have fun, you can go build a cheap “shell” base out in the open somewhere with a shooting floor/compound so you can have some good PVP action, but you don’t actually keep any of your important loot in there other than as temporary storage to depot it at one of your other low-key bases (if you shoot enough guys off the top of your base, you're just asking to be raided). Again, the key here is to never let _anyone_ know where your “real” bases are. Depending on how far along you get, some bare-basic 2x1s spread around with a gun and some basic loot in each are great for flanking bases / if your other bases get raided you’ll still at least have _something_ as opposed to starting from complete scratch. Some people can just make a bow and kill a guy with full armor, AK, explosives, and farm on their body in 5 minutes and then have a compound up and running in an hour or two. And then can play for 20 hours of the day and always be there to defend their base. But that sure as hell ain't me. This strategy has worked well for me on all kinds of servers (vanilla, 2x, 2x bi-weekly, 2x monthly…), although I do play mostly on 2x bi-weekly.
I started playing Rust because o videos on youtube. But the game isn't very friendly with new players and I started to get frustrated. I was about to uninstall the game and then I found your channel. Now I'm really hyped to try again and learn to play solo. This video is so diferent from the other "guides" on youtube and it helped me so much, and for this I thank you. You deserve your channel's growth, keep up the good work.
On point advices, and I really appreciated the part about "rage quitting" bit. I played with a lot of different people and when your partner rage quit and leave you hanging to recover, it really takes a toll to motivation and often made me go back to solo play. Maybe the older players just have more patience I suppose. :)
This video was actually extremely informative and helpful. I have just now hit 300 hours and couldn’t really find a groove because I kept trying to hit lighthouse or supermarket/gas station for loot and kept dying as a solo player. Thank you.
Good advice Willjum. Playing with a chill mindset and a purpose helps a lot. I've been adapting my gameplay to be more like yours and have been enjoying Rust more now. Thank you.
Just build next to the out post, scrap all the road sings in the safe zone, buy all the material you need for your house. Easy tier 2 work bench 30 min. Getting there half the problem.
I play solo often and have your so called "mechanical aim" I usually snowball from nothing to something in about a few hours... However I do find myself every once in a while not being able to catch a break and after watching a few of your previous videos I started playing with a lot more strategy. So for this I thank you.
Willjum is like the only rust youtuber i can keep watching for more than like 2 videos. His content is just so well put together and you can tell he puts time and effort into them without overdoing it.
Perhaps it's because I always plan on solo or duo servers, but I've found that the best place to build is a short jaunt from Outpost. With a max group size of two, no one wants to risk raiding a base near outpost since it's basically guaranteed to get third, fourth, and fifth partied. Outpost will grant you a safe recycler and an endless supply of chainsaws and jackhammer for early wipe building. After I get my base prepared for a minicopter, I head out across the map towards bandit camp hitting every crate/barrel I can safely get to along the way. Once at camp, I safely recycle and sell mats for scrap to buy an LR and a minicopter. I then fly back to my base and go from there. When in doubt, farm to bandit and buy an lr and a mini :)
Thank you very much I've been losing hard as a solo and keeping a good mindset is key as stated. Alongside the other information in the video I feel I can do better in my next wipes
Such a good job on addressing the mental frustrations and how to deal with them bit. A lot of people need to chill out when it comes to losing it all. Great Video.
The base location thing spokennoise I'm happy that you guys said that or that you said that because most people look where they live in how many zurgs and nearby to where they're gonna end up reading them war, more other random people are gonna come by like me. I like to. Go near generally low pop area and I try to stay away from monuments but have like a couple like bad ones so I like the best ones. And at least have one with like a recycler, so I like to build at the edge of the map where it's kinda flat or I like to build in the middle. I'm actually doing a server right now. And where my base is at is like a perfect place. Even though I discovered that there is a bigger base nearby, they are pretty bad cause. I killed one of them with a pumpy and he had a water pipe. And his aim was so bad and I cleaned the airdrops, so he doesn't know where I live, but he might figure it out.And if he does, then he's gonna get there just destroyed
I am New to Pc, New to Rust and New to streaming on Twitch. Im looking for advice, strategies, tips/tricks etc on Rust, but mainly advice on Soloing in Rust. I will say this is one of the best Guides ive seen for Rust as a Solo. You were 100% honest and told it how it was. The first two times i played Rust, i did everything you pointed out about players going the wrong way about their gameplay, i quit both times. I did what you said and offered as advice and it went 100% different. Thanks yo!
Only one thing I would add...for a solo player, a cave base (especially a snow cave) is one of the safest options for longevity throughout a wipe and has incredible resistance to offline raiding. Only chokepoints to design/strengthen and completely out of sight from raiders.
WillyJ, I've followed your channel for quite some time now. I play solo only, I'm a bit of a hoarder and hate when groups wipe my base and take my treasure. Seeing you progress from a shadow warrior o a pvp Chad gives me hope I can get up to a semblance of your level. Keep on posting your adventures, love your vids, love the music!
Damnnn its insane how you changed in that time. I only knew New Videos from you. But im pretty sure youve always been like that and just got more confident with speaking into a mic. Love your channel!
This is gold thank you for caring enough to explain the philosophy and yes I found it different from most. Thank s again. First time player of Rust and definitely needed those tips as I already raged quit from the server...lol and was called a neuro divergent for it lmao.
I’m not that good at the game, but do have some experience now (1k hours). Firstly, like Willjum said the start is most important. Find a location and run there. Only pick up hemp, I personally don’t even loot crates. I do loot toolboxes though since they carry tools and sometimes bows/crossbows. As soon as you have 30 cloth craft a bag and place it when someone is trying to kill you. Accept the fact that you will most likely die trying to get to your designated base location. That’s why it’s important to not waste time farming or looting crates. You will lose the stuff anyway, less things you can give to others the better. Once you have a bag or two down in your planned base location, do a quick 3min look around and make sure there’s not too many active bases which is going to screw you when you’re trying to get started. 2) Building your base. Have a base design learned by heart and that you’ve practiced. Use bunker bases, they’re very powerful. It’s best to build a base slowly so you never have many resources on you. I personally like putting down a stone foundation with two twig/stone walls (whatever you can afford) and placing a tc with lock down. This allows you to depo your resources so you don’t lose much. Plus, it’s not like people can break your tc early wipe unless it’s on a wooden foundation. 3) Once you have your base secure with an airlock you do what Willjum says, get 50 low grade asap. You need that metal for a sheet metal door. Once you have metal cooking and some backup resources, then you can start going on scrap runs for components and scrap. 4) USE your components and materials. Don’t just leave 6k stone in your little 2x1. Use it. You shouldn’t have more than 24hrs of upkeep when you log off unless you know you won’t be playing the next day. Night time is a great time to craft kits and things you need and also take a 10min break to refresh your mind while it’s night and you’re crafting. Always, craft things when you’re afk, use your components. Example, It’s better to have a box of syringes than 1k low grade, 5k metal, 2k cloth. As soon as you can craft something that you know you’re going to use, put it on your nightly craft que. This saves so much time later on and can be the difference between winning a fight and losing it. 5) Go back to where you died asap. The moment you die, spawn in your base and pick up your already crafted kit which you WILL have due to your nightly crafting and book it to where you died. A lot of people are greedy so they take too long to leave the area after killing someone. A lot of people don’t keep enough bandages/syringes as well so they will be low. Makes them easy pickings which means even if you lost the first battle, you win the war. 6) Get your base completed asap. The most important item early game imo is a jackhammer. If you have 150 scrap, buy it. You will finish your farming to complete your base in 1/10 of the time. The more time you save, the further ahead you will be ahead of others. I personally blitz to finish my base, at least in stone since well metal takes a while. I usually get a tier 1 down, get scrap for a jackhammer or at the very least go on a road run for toolboxes/kill scientists to find metal tools before I start farming. I view this as really important. If you can complete your base on the first day it means 2 things: First, you’re probably going to be poor since you didn’t spend much time farming components which is actually a low key good thing. Your base is hard to raid. Most likely you will not get raided on your first day since your base will be complete (in stone at least). IF you do get raided, you lose almost nothing and you put the people that raided you behind since they wasted valuable early game resources and time getting nothing of value from it. It’s actually satisfying logging back in on your second day, finding your completed honeycombed base raided knowing it will take you 30min getting control of it again and farming up the materials/scrap you lost, while it cost the people that raided you 10k sulfur for an empty base. The most expensive thing you own is your base and unless it gets hard grieved with a metal door, you will be able to regain it, even if it means breaking a wooden door and a tc. If you can’t regain your base, no biggie, if your honeycombed base was able to get raided, your little 2x1 was sure to get raided anyway so just take the loss and know you actually put the raiders behind and most likely made them rage for raiding an empty base. 7) Now that you have your base completed you can solely focus on scrap runs and getting guns. A completed base makes things go way faster. No wasting time having to craft extra boxes, trying to find room for boxes/furnaces/etc.,. You can quickly drop things off and go back out. I find this makes you progress much faster not having to waste valuable time. If you get lucky, you might even be able to have a tier 3 by the end of the day since you’re constantly going to be roaming/doing card runs. 8) Getting a gun. If you want to get a gun, make sure you have extra kits because you WIILL die and lose kits a few times. For pvp, go to where you hear gun sounds and stalk the players. Be patient and set up a choke point and wait for them to come to you. A db is best, if you don’t have one a crossbow with a nailgun and compound bow is best. One full charge headshot with a compound bow is enough to 100-0 most players. It’s very powerful. If you can’t pvp for shit, place lots of bags down and look for clan raids. So much is happening during large clan raids that you can usually run up as a naked with a torch/rock and find a kit and gtfo before anyone notices. You can do the same for big clan battles as well. If you’re new, I actually recommend you don’t play much of the normal game. 30% of your time should be spent on build servers learning how to build and different base designs, 50% of the time should be spent on bow battleground servers to get comfortable with primitive weapons since most likely as a new solo player you won’t get a gun in your first few wipes. The rest of your time should be spent learning the basics of the game on actual servers. Build near different monuments and search up monument videos so you learn where all the crates are. You’re going to get better at the game though if you solely focus on getting good at the bow/crossbow (most important skill to have), building, and learning monuments. Jumping into servers and doing nothing but playing actual rust is going to slow down your overall skill progression.

I have played 4,5 months and im on lvl 69. Great mobil game 😊👍
Some more advice from a successful solo who's also terrible at gun play:
1) Keep a paper and pen handy, or a text document.
Kash K buy it at the outpost for 150 scrap, or often in ocean crates, both scuba or floating.

One tip that I use. When farming wood, don't cut the tree all the way down. Get 4 or 5 trees on the verge of falling. Basically one or two hits away. Then when you are ready take them all down and dip. When a tree falls it makes a lot of noise, so this eliminates the odds of someone hearing and countering you.
thanks man this is an actual good tip
Excellent tip. Timeless.
Bro think this is fort
Yep great tip I do this all the time
I’ve been neglecting getting back into solo ever since my friends quit trios, but this honestly gave me the confidence to try it again. It’s good to know there are other solos who aren’t great at PVP, and that still enjoy the game regardless of their skill against others
As a solo and not very good at pvp. I took a hard hit with the 200 scrap boat, that's how I made my early game moves, on the seas.
yeah exactly i liked sea farming it was always peaceful and u could farm scrap without worrying about other players and now its gone
It suck I tried to get scrap yesterday and I got killed like 10 times just trying to hit barrel on the road
Same
I always die when I go out on water early wipe
Look at the brightside. Now you need to invest a bit of scrap, but also you will encounter people much more rarely. Also you can buy scuba gear while you're getting a boat so you can escape any encounter if you do happen to come by someone.

Great video and great advice! I play solo as well. One thing ive been doing lately that i think helps is similar to your idea of farming after losing a fight. Keep up the good work Wiljum!

Thx for the guide , Unfortunately i don 't play rust but i am enjoying with your vids
Man this guys voice is so therapeutic. For the lowly solo rust player who's just been raided this vid really helped.
You're just right. I'm 23 and i see a lack of respect in the young generation. It's sad that ppl get mad over a video game....
@@SturmVogel96 Oh I meant in no way to imply this is generational. I've heard men older than me completely berate children over stupid game stuff. Again, "Is only game, why you have to be mad?" really needs to be a firm gamer creed.
I'm the sore winner here; I do it cuz it's funny to see people like u cry lmao
You roll with the punches or you get knocked down.
this was the best guide ive watched, the 10-15 minute rule and especially the mentality and mindset portion of the video, that really spoke to me
"There are no spawn points in the snow" I've been playing console version and this is NOT true.

There's one big factor you haven't included in your video: diversification. Building multiple small bases so you don't have to worry about upkeep is critical for successful solo plays. Door camped in one base? Spawn somewhere else. Got raided overnight? No big deal, I've got five more.

This was like a therapist session I made me play again and relize its only game you don't need to be mad.

I see willjum, i see 5 minutes, I click, I don’t regret
Thank you very much I've been losing hard as a solo and keeping a good mindset is key as stated. Alongside the other information in the video I feel I can do better in my next wipes
Meanwhile in the Australian servers everyone and there mums in snow.
Is that Bcz they haven't seen it before?
Expected a good guide on how to succeed in Solo Only.
Received a whole Rust life lesson lmao.
Great mentality
Lol I have 1.5k hours in rust and I’ve only ever done solo😂
Lonely gang rise up🥲
Never played rust
2700 hours here and have never been in a group or used a mic. I play official servers

Lol I went straight to the comment once he said rAiD sHaDoW LeGeNdS
i came back to this over and over, what a quality video. the cherry top tip to succeed.. Correct mindset.
Same raid shadow legends script as all the others, same copy paste desc/comment... You really never played it, have you?
He shows his account level lol
@@vincentnaing1750are you sure its his account? it looks like a garbo edit
Thanks yo!
people who think saying 'first'' Is actually gonna get them as the top comment- lmao
Only one thing I would add...for a solo player, a cave base (especially a snow cave) is one of the safest options for longevity throughout a wipe and has incredible resistance to offline raiding. Only chokepoints to design/strengthen and completely out of sight from raiders.
first

I've been watching most of your videos on rust, as a solo player on rust I 100% agree with you and I hope to see you online some day
I luv going back and looking a Willjumś old vids. My how far you have come but still true to your foundation!
It's nice to see you have so much integrity to hold out for a sponsor like raid shadow legends
