Thank you for creating this conversation! I read a study that was published recently about the carbon emissions of gardens compared with industrial agriculture. It turns out that gardens which use all new supplies and store bought compost are not carbon negative until 20+ years! The solution, the found, is to recycle gardening materials within the community and produce your own compost. It’s had me thinking a LOT about overconsumption (eg buying all brand new materials from chain nurseries) and how underconsumption can even help us bring communities together (eg community composts, reusing or renting gardening supplies, local seed libraries). To help our planet, I think we’re going to need creative and intersectional solutions to becoming self sufficient
