Thank you just got my son his first car 05 pilot He will be 16 in July changing all fluids tune up and tires I appreciate you help No more gamer vids till the cars up and running flawlessly
Highly recommend a new washer every time. Reusing crush washers can lead to stripped threads and/or leaks. The washers are aluminum and slightly crush every time they’re torqued, which puts more stress on the threads of the aluminum pan because they get a bit thinner every time. Eventually they just strip out the threads which is a major pain/expense. Been there, done that on a used Honda I bought (crush washer had been reused several times and was stuck to the drain plug-pan threads came out with the drain plug when I loosened it). A $1 washer every 30K miles seems like a no-brainer.
I changed the ATF on my 2003 Pilot, the first 2 drains showed sludge and metal filings on the drain plug - the 3rd drain showed clear fluid, but a small amount of metal filings, I used the genuine Honda brand ATF, the transmission works better and gas mileage improved. My fill plug is a little different, it has a pipe, connected to a rubber hose running through it.
My local Honda garage mechanic says not to do the extended interval changes with at least two drain/refills like the owner's manual says. Instead, change the ATF every 30K miles (or more) because this keeps the fluid fresher. When I buy a new-to-me used vehicle, I usually change the ATF at 5K intervals until the old fluid fluid looks better and then I extend the frequency. Also, the CRUSH washers are meant to be disposable. I use a torque wrench with a new crush washer on all my fluid changes whether filling or draining. Cheap insurance!
I went to home depot and got a weed sprayer cut the tip off and it fills the vtm-4 fluid and it fits perfectly in the transmission dip stick to fill it.
Wikipedia says most aftermarket fluid will say "suitable for" on the bottle and is NOT meeting specifications for your transmission. Honda is especially picky on fluid.
Have you added an external transmission cooler? How many miles are on your '05 Pilot? I have 200k on mine. I have taken it off-roading in 25 states. I'm thinking about adding an external transmission cooler. Worried about throwing a code & not being able to clear it.
Also, I replaced the transmission 2 months ago with one I got from LKQ (83k on the one I put in). I'm hoping an external transmission cooler will help prolong its life.
Sadly it’s not a 7... you can tell with the other 7 the top is straight the first one is curved.. it’s 299,766... BUT with proper maintenance and no abuse I wouldn’t doubt a Honda motor to make it to that!
@@phillippardo5712 Just check the scheduled maintenance of your vehicle to see there is any mention of a transmission filter change many web postings indicate you don't have to change it.
This is an excellent video! Thank you for being so thorough and taking your time explaining where everything is.

I been 14 years filling in dipstick cause I can’t get that 17 bolt off! LoL.

Did u not change the filter??
Thnx for the help..did it myself after watching this
This is my man , we make it work .
Washers are cheap, you can purchase them from Amazon. I just replaced the ATF on my pilot, do not have to place vehicle on wooden blocks
Shouldn't be just below the upper dot after driving around? because the ATF volume increases as it get hot
I would never do this without a new Crush Washer..
is it the same step with the 2006 Honda Pilot?

Thank you very much that's very nice and easy

does that odometer say 799,766? If so that's crazy mileage for a 1st gen pilot to still be going!
Doing emissions inspection in Georgia.. I have a regular customer coming in every year with a 2001 Saturn station wagon, recently hit 871k!
Just under 100k. 7:50

Good job 👏
Nice THX
Wow.. Gracias ...
Do you need to change the Auto Transmission FILTER ? and CLEAN the Auto Transmission pan ? Like the old way on US car .
No you don't have to change the filter
@@transformer889 I'm really trying to figure out why you don't have to change the filter??
