Gone are the days of being a workhorse. This is NOT a badge of honor. Stress can Kill. I am at a stage in life my next chapter will allow for me to work smarter and not harder. I have to enjoy and value what I do while not compromising my peace, sanity, or health. Tfs and being transparent!
@@lynnbleasdale5824 Thank you for your service in the field of education. I haven't taught in almost 20 years, I love children and will always have a special place in my heart for my former students; however, I (we) have to choose me (us).
That saying " your lack of planning, is not my emergency " If that student let their grade slip to that degree, they dont need to play sports. I don't think that's the exact quote lol but as a viewer I agree the last thing you need is more work and demands on you. I hope you are having a great week 💓
I had to go back and read the comments on your last video; a couple of comments were so "off." People really do have a lot of audacity. 🙄 These kids that have sports hanging by a thread and don't get their Leadership things turned in REALLY need to learn these life lessons now and not later. Sometimes being "cut-throat" is the best choice. Love your content!
No ma'am, don't get upset with yourself for not reaching every LITTLE goal bc the bigger, more important goal as a teacher is to show up for the kids, paperwork/grading comes after. For yourself. it is to be okay so if that looks like vegging out, not cooking or whatever, do your thing, girl!
You are amazing and appreciated by so many people. Being in a different season of life, and putting less pressure on yourself as needed, truly does not take away from your worth in any way, shape, or form. ✨ Telling myself the same, as often as I can.
Sped teacher here! I get what you are feeling. What I was able to do 10 years ago is so different to what I do now! We are growing but we most definitely don’t need to only work ourselves to death. I’m in a stage of releasing stress and giving myself more grace to just rest. I feel guilty about it but I NEED IT!!! Continue to prioritize yourself. You will get through it!
That’s how I feel about teaching special education I teach do lesson plans Iep meetings bad behavior interrupting the whole classroom , new kids IEPs , it’s too much I just want peace and not having to work 7 days a week to try to stay ahead . I feel you 100%
This is the time in the academic year when you feel as if you never have time enough to do anything. All of the assessments and activities are happening at such a rapid pace that you do not feel as if you can relax. The way things are going, you might not see principals lasting for more than a decade because of all of the demands of the job. Too many things are being put on people's plates in education. Hang in there. Thank you for your video presentation. Take care.
I think you would be great at being a school principal!!!! I say think about it. Yes, fellow colleagues will drive you crazy but the students will love you forever! Parents are going to be parents no matter what role you take on in the school. But listening to my sister, who has always rooted for students to succeed, I don’t think she would trade being a school principal! Also, in my opinion it might take the load of teaching off your plate since you’re already doing so much for the school.
Girl I feel you 100%. I am a resource teacher in High school. I make decisions and have to think for so many other people daily that by Saturday I just need to sit and be still and not be today expected to make a decision. It's a total re charge!! Sunday I'm ready to go again. But, if I don't get that recharge I drag...
Woow, since I’ve started watching your vlogs ( about 2 or 3 months ….but caught up on the old ones) I’ve always thought how a good principal you would be. Not only for representation but for your organizational skills, high efficiency, goals reaching and creativity, thinking outside the box). When time will come and you are mentally prepared, I hope you’ll reconsider. You will be a great asset. But totally understand the stress you are going through impacting your mental health, physical and emotional health. Take good care of yourself.
Again, thank you for documenting it ALL. My question is how can it be fixed? As you know I live in Texas, and I'm only a few months out of the classroom. But I said and felt every single thing you have said and felt. So that tells me it is a systemic issue. I keep looking for the place/position that will allow me to bring solutions. I wish there was something we could create--I don't know what that is...a coalition, something. But it is not just you or being Type A. It is the majority of us in education I believe.
I truly don't know what position/title one would need to change these systemic issues. I think that is one of the reasons why I haven't left the classroom and gone into administrative roles. I would do admin. if I truly felt they were given the freedom and ability to change things, but I don't they are given the freedom to make change even at that level. There is certainly systemic issues that need to be addressed, but it does feel hopeless at times. At least the classroom brings me a certain amount of reward and gives me a certain sense of control
I understand your frustration and decision I decided years ago administration was not my path…..25th year as a teacher and I’m 2 classes away from librarian I can’t do this any more.
The effects of a nationwide teacher shortage is the root cause of educators' health care symptoms. Our God-made bodies is not designed to handle too much stress. We must budget our time to get plenty of rest. Even God rested.
First, nothing about you is an “average teacher.” Just had to get that out. I have my admin degree, but have no interest in being a principal - but not because of the workload. I recognize that being an excellent teacher and also holding several leadership roles and performing at my standards on all fronts, is an insane workload. I’m also aware that I am essentially running in two lanes. This is the curse of being awesome. 😂 I’d wager that you are doing the equivalent of 3 full-time jobs outside of the world of education. Leave the guilt behind. Take care of you. That’s the growth.
Thank you for the kind words. I do feel like between my core classes and leadership I am doing what a principal should really be able to do if they were not bogged down with all the other things.

I wish I had committed to your wise philosophy when I was still teaching. I hope a lot of teachers take this to heart. Thanks

I applaud you!! Last November, I had to step down from a higher level job. The stress and lack of sleep almost did me in😢😢😢
Agreed!!!
Yes, those days are certainly over for me.

The "real world" certainly still is, no matter how much they try to adopt more mental health language.

This is wisdom. Keep making the best adjustments for your teaching and your life. You're an inspiration and a wonder educator/RUclips teacher mentor.
Thank you!

A good partner teacher makes a world of difference!
Makes a huge difference! Gets you through the day.
You ain't said nothing but a WORD. God bless Admin

Don't get over it, LaTawnya...some days we need to be able to laugh at the ridiculous to get us through other hurdles. Or is that just me? 😆😆😆
👍🏽

I know a lot of teachers are transitioning into being a librarian. Seems like it would be a nice balance.
You could honestly be my best friend!
Hey, I’m really loving the brown work bag. Do you mind sharing where you got it from?
Sure...here is the link: poppyandpeonies.com/collections/totes/products/tote-it-in-cognac

So true!
Lol my first thumbs up 😂
I appreciate it.
I would NEVER want to be in administration!!! Not a part of my ministry 😊.
I STILL sometimes consider being an assistant principal, but only because they're strict & can get away with it 😅
I am strict and "am getting away with it." Lol...

What does it matter if someone cooks or not?! My goodness people! Wow! Say you’re a patriarchy sympathizer without raising your hand!
