    UPDATE: 2024 Salmon Season is CLOSED!

    • @JammyPajammies
      @JammyPajammies 6 месяцев назад +2

      Judging by what the CDFW press release is saying, I'm guessing it'll probably be closed for a few more seasons to give the salmon population time to benefit from the better water situation.

    Everyone seems to be bashing u for taking limits but you’re only taking a limit of two fish when it’s really the charters/party boats that really do most of the damage. Halibut is just a little bit slow right now cuz more bait needs to come in the bay

      I think it's the irony of the picture of 2 very oversized halibut followed by the video title "this fish future could be at risk". If you cared about the future of the fishery one might think conservation would be on ones mind. Unfortunately, it's more about youtube hits than using the platform to sway others into a more conservation like mindset.🤯

    As far as keeping limits go, keep in mind Jun is one of the few people that requires catch and release with his tournaments. That’s huge for the local fishery

  • @jimbo4612
    @jimbo4612 6 месяцев назад +2

    Stock assessments of Calif halibut are actually stable. The reason for the two halibut limit is to prevent similar mistakes that were made in 2008-2009 during salmon closures and for 2024 it's the same deal all over again. What really hurts is during all the drought years causing poor salmon returns,Southern California almond and pistachio growers still get record water flows and make 25 to 30% more profit annually. California is basically nuts!!!

    Slot limit would be a great solution maybe 22” - 29” in that way the breeder can produce.

      Problem is Commercial anglers get paid by weight and they won't cooperate particularly with Salmon season closures and poor crab seasons. Many of the SF bay commercials are on life support as is .

  • @richardk.9900
    @richardk.9900 6 месяцев назад +2

    Lol everyone complaining about how Jun got his limits needs to check themselves. If youre worried about an individual *recreational* angler then what about the commerical fleet? There's a huge difference there in terms of barrier to entry and catch volume per outing. Yes recreational anglers do have the discreation to release or keep within their LAWFUL limits, but throwing racial comments online isn't going to solve squat. If you're really concerned write to the CDFW, CCA or heck even your local assemblyperson to revise the rules but channeling your inner keyboard warrior while wearing yoyr best pair of Pull-Ups isnt going to do anything but make yourself feel special💩❄️

    As others mentioned, a slot limit would be good. Keeping the breeders safe so they can produce more fish for every season, and keeping some fisherman happy by not having to close off halibut fishing

    • @nl4794
      @nl4794 6 месяцев назад

      Just taking notes from the east coast is all. Seeing how they’re fish populations are very abundant and a lot if not most of the fish out there have slot size limits. I think it would benefit since the bigger fish are usually the ones that breed a bigger percentage of the population.

    • @nl4794

    Reducing halibut to 1 wont change the issues with lack of water for salmon Better California puts a restriction on how many pistachios and almonds grown. Takes 1 gal of water to grow just to grow 1 nut !

    i talk regularly with fishing game and i do have faith that their surveys and set limits are keeping the fiahing sustainable. California halibut are still plentiful. just stay within the limit, trust the process and pray that poachers stop poaching. halibut fishing will remain great for generations to come.

    Hey Jun-not bashing you bro but you boys are the big influencers in the area. Most of your boys fish multiple days a week it seems and keep everything they catch. Sometime its good to see a catch n release videos. You guys talk about the declining population of fish m yet you always take your limits. Maybe sometime just catch n release would be good so other people that look up to you guys can learn.
