Sri Kshetra Mrugavadhe is a historic place situated in Thirthahalli Taluk Shivamogga district. Mallikarjuna temple is the prime attraction here which is built on the banks of Brahmi river. (mistakenly said as Tunga river in video)
During the vanavasa of Sri Rama, Rama along with Sita and Lakshmana have travelled across so many places in the southern part of India. Mrugavadhe is one of such places.
Sita once sees a golden deer and requests Rama to get it for her. Later Rama finds that its a trap. A Rakshasa named Maricha has come in disguise and he kills him. Thus the place got the name Mrugavadhe. "Mruga" means animal and "Vadhe" means killing. Later Sri Rama installs a Shiva ling at this place and name it Mallikarjuna.
The temple is open all the days in the morning time, i.e upto 12 noon. Later there is Anna Prasada too. So visit this place before 12PM if you are planning to come here.
