Today I review the Harbor Freight Heat-Shrink Butt Connector while repairing some Christmas lights that were damaged by Rabbits this winter. Very impressed with this product and highly recommend them. Harbor Freight is really putting out some very good products now.

May seem boring to most people but I need these

Convenient but better to twist the wires together, solder, and then heat shrink. Better electrical and mechanical CV connection and also water proof.

Neat! I didn't know Harbor Freight carried those, I'll have to pick some up. Thanks for sharing!

When I was in the Navy in the 1980's we had connectors that looked like these but didn't use a crimp. They had shrink wrap with a short tube of solder in the middle. You would strip and insert your wires, then heat it with the heat gun. First, the wrap would shrink, then the solder would melt. The wrap would then shrink more, squeezing the solder into the wires. There was also glue/sealant in the wrap. They were extremely effective, but I've never seen these anywhere since.

@@thechiefsway2618 Yeah, that's it. I don't know if they're exactly like the ones we had back then, but definitely similar. Thanks!

I don't know if these are as bad as some that Big Clive reviewed on his channel a while ago, but the issue that some of the Chinese sourced solder splice connectors suffered was a lack of adequate solder and flux in them.
I've used -Raytheon- (edit: RayChem) produced ones, and they were an amazing convenience when needed and allowed. (They had lead in the solder, so my work was no longer allowing them due to RoHS regulations. I ended up with a few boxes when they were purged...)

YT keeps eating replies to this...
Raychem SolderSleeve is the family of parts that I was using, and the part number family was B-155-900X.
They have a few sizes for different applications.

Thank you for the video!! Working on repairing some old wiring in my Gen 2 firebird. These should work nicely.
Any need to get an extra layer of heat shrink wrap to fully encase the connection? Was curius how the heat wrap on each hold up over time.

The rear of the packaging says it is ideal for marine and off-road use. The heat shrink portion is many times thicker and stiffer them than the typical heat shrink and the material takes 275 degrees to start to shrink. Should work great either under the hood or under the dash.

I'd buy em in a pinch, but stuff like that is dirt cheap on ebay and you get 100 or so not these little packs of 4 or 8.

The heat shrink tubing does NOT have any glue on the inside of the butt connector.

The Adhesive is there. See this post below in the Community section with pictures. There is not an excess that had oozed out, but is definitely there.
