If you wanna know why these films are loved by certain members of Pixar's audience, and why it could even be someone's favorite, consider the following: Look at Monster's University as a realistic, honest conversation to kids about disability and tempering expectations of achievement after graduating from the education chapter of your life. Look at A Bug's Life as a Marxist deconstruction of class hierarchy and a champion of non-conformity during a time where that was not necessarily a very popular idea Don't look at Cars 2 cause I got nothing, genuinely hate that movie
Cars 2, with booze and friends, it a trip of an experience. As you try to unravel the nightmarishly ableist world building will make you will feel the true cosmic horror that CARS really is.
I love monsters university, mainly due to its unique message. When I saw this thumbnail, I was very hesitant to click... Then I saw the uploader. Your criticism of it was great and really well put.
here after seeing the most recently posted video bc I want to see the series and yt only recently realised this is literally one of the best genres of video it could have given me
No joke I literally just finished watching one of your other videos and all of a sudden this uploaded almost instantly lol. Anyways yeah insightful! I agree that out of Pixar’s library these films are some of the least interesting to me and I understand why they’re your least favorites. I’ve been exposed to all sorts of opinions of their films by many different people where you get one person who says “Cars doesn’t make sense” or “Toy Story 4 destroyed everything” or “Monsters inc. is the cleverest Pixar film” as if Pixar’s becoming more and more controversial as the days go by which is ridiculous. I just go with my gut feelings of how I feel about a particular film and try to get engaged in whatever intrigues me; I like Monsters Inc. more than you because, while I’ll admit it did pull its punches, it was thoroughly interesting to watch how the characters react and deal with situations. Also I think Toy Story 1 is heavily flawed with it relying way more on plot conveniences that really bugged me but it was ironically funny for that too. It’s gonna be super interesting to hear your thoughts on the rest of their films you’ll cover!
This came out of left field but I'm here for it. I'm glad to see you breaking out of the video game bubble again and exploring more art that connects (or in this case, doesn't connect) with you. I've only seen 9 of the films, most of which are earlier in the filmography, so this will be an interesting ride, though not one that I'll find any less fruitful. Your TLoU2 video still brings me to tears and I'll probably never play the game. Looking forward to the next batch!
I didn't even like the Cars movies, certainly not as much as Incredibles But for some reason, I, like every other child on the planet, ending up with a 10 pound basket of JUST cars toys Where the hell do these things come from?!
Re-watching this video again and scrolling through the comments only to see that apparently nobody caught the Game Grumps reference at 23:28 and also that I feel really weird for having caught that in the first place
Well researched video with good points. This has been on my mind for a while but... you covered most of it so very little to say. A lot of good points in this so mostly just commenting for algorithm.
To me at least, even Pixar’s “worst” movies are interesting in their own ways. Also, I was very fond of Bug’s Life as a kid but the liar revealed trope is so off-putting. I get why it isn’t as liked as the rest of Pixar’s lineup of films.
Discovered this channel thanks to the God Algorithm. What can I say, your very thorough and detailed opinion is very impactful and genuinely great. There's just one problem: Monsters University is my favourite film of all time. I agree in accepting the various opinions, also because the propective you give is very interesting and original: to say that Pixar was not suited to make MU is a thought that intrigued me greatly. But from here to say, in fact, "These 3 films I wouldn't see why anyone would love them" is going too far. OK, let's face it: I saw this film and Monsters Inc for the first time in Pandemic, so Nostalgia has absolutely nothing to do with it, and I'm the first to say that MU is NOT the best Pixar film, especially because I find Randy's presence awkward and unnecessary and it's actually not the most original film. Nonetheless, everything else literally has the complete package to fall in love with: funny jokes, a large dose of charismatic and likeable characters, hilarious Scare Games (which I really hope will be shown in full), an excellent third act, a message that for me is ambitious, and the presence of my favourite character, Johnny. For it to be a favourite film, there has to be an X factor, something that makes you connect with it on a more personal level. And while I can agree with you that Cars 2 and A Bug's Life don't have an X factor, Monsters University is full of it. Then I think the Monsters Inc. franchise is the best to explore, because the avenues are there: what I would give for a series based on MU. I'll end by saying that I'm looking forward to the next episodes and locations, because I'm too curious about your perspective.
Well, I thought Monsters University was good at being a prequel because I agree with what Seamus Gorman said about it. Do you think Finding Dory is one of Pixar's misses too?

gave a standing ovation at the albuquerque reference. now i know for sure these reviews are in good hands.
Unlike Pixar, Micah never misses
This is a wonderful essay, adeptly diving into Pixar's storytelling and animation as a medium on a whole. Love your work!

My ass was about to be mad but most of his criticisms did make sense ngl

I have referenced GG a number of times across videos and this is the first time it’s been pointed out.

Fun fact: this is the first letterbox aspect ratio and Pixar villain’s death, before the rest of the latest Pixar movies.
23:25 - What's with Luca?
