    Got the Piezos installed in my uke and they work fine. Thanks for the advice.
    IF I ever do it again, or have a need to open up my uke, I'll probably move one of the pickups. I currently have both of them slightly behind the bridge. Came out pretty nice, waiting to find some smaller knobs. Standard guitar knobs look to large on a smaller Uke.

    I built 20 guitars with piezzo pickups, and then switched to magnetic pickups, and have now built 180 guitars with them, ranging in price from $50 to $390. There is no comparison to piezzo especially if you want to put some gain on your amp. Having said that if you still want to go the Piezzo route this video has good advice.

      Hey, thanks for the comment. That’s awesome that you’ve built so many guitars, I have also and I love it! The idea for the Piezo is that it’s easy to electrify your do it yourself type of guitar build. When I do a magnetic pick up I do a different style build that requires a little more bracing and notching, etc. I want people to be able to start simple and then develop ideas on their own of how they want to explore this world. Keep on building, rock on!

      Magnetic pickups are obviously preferable but piezos can be cool too. A trick I learned was that piezos sound very tinny and high. But if you add any gain they sound muddy. So if you find that sweet spot with just a little gain, just enough to thicken up the sound, it sounds pretty good. Of course that wouldn't be necessary with magnetic. As I said, they're preferable.

      @@PaulTheSkeptic I agree. I have now built 140 CBG and all of them since my comment above with Magnetic PU. I first started using the more expensive ones but have found that the $7.50 from =MGB Guitars work as well as the more expensive ones, Although the Lace matchbook pick up looks interesting.. If I ever get around for making a guitar for myself I'll chance a Lace.. At the moment I prefer to play the guitars I have for sale as a quality check before selling them. Thanks! That was very informative! Just a quick question about the tone pot... does that really make much of a difference in piezo CBG's? I've been trying to find examples online, but almost all videos of piezo CBG's either only have a volume knob, or they don't show any tone knob action in the demos. I'm still planning my build and don't know if a tone pot's worth it or not? 🙂

    I have a Telecaster Electric guitar but want to take out the magnetic pickups and swap them with a piezo pickup, but still have the electric guitar "sound". i would still want to have the tone and volume control on it though. How could i do this?

      Hey Greg, thanks for the comment. The Piezo is meant for a intro to wiring up your guitar. I play live shows and I use magnetic pick ups in mine, except one guitar I have a combo Piezo and magnetic. I think the Piezo has a cool sound, but definitely limitations in the live music realm. But, anything you building and wiring yourself to get the sound out is OK by me. Have Fun!

    It's a nice product but that's a lot of wires. Why not make them a bit shorter? Also, usually the piezo goes under the bridge but that's no big deal. With two you can put them in different places which is nice.

    • @SoundboxGuitars
      @SoundboxGuitars  2 года назад

      Wires are long so they are easier to place for different size guitars...also, at the end of the video, check out the 'pro tips' for installing under the bridge. - ruclips.net/video/aGtHNLKi7Qo/видео.html

    • @SoundboxGuitars
      @SoundboxGuitars  2 года назад +1

      no need for a ground with a piezo - it only picks up vibrations - unlike a magnetic pick which needs a ground.

      I don't see why not. That's what they use for like U-basses I believe but it's not all that hard to do a magnetic pickup. They even sell prewired ones for pretty cheap.

    Get an old smoke detector alarm and reverse wire it (flip flop the wires) in and you will have the same thing. It's the same electronics.

    I see very very much long wire in the cigarbox guitar and that is not shielded wire. Go study some basic electronics and use shielded wires!

    • @SoundboxGuitars
      @SoundboxGuitars  4 года назад

      Thanks for the comment, there’s long wires because you never know where someone is going to put their pick up. As far shielded wire goes, these are Piezo pick ups, not magnetic, it has no adverse effect on the ceramic disc and the signal being sent. There is no magnetic response to this, it only picks up physical vibrations.
      Keep on Strummin’!
