  • In Episode 137 of ‘Cars, Shops & Collections’ we have a 1966 Shelby GT350H, A Hertz Rent-A-Racer. Find out what makes this already RARE ride a 1 of 50 car!
Our good friends Rebecca & Jerry at Sin City Muscle Cars recently purchased this 1966 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350H from the second owner! Rebecca & Jerry give us exclusive access to their garage as we do a bumper-to-bumper breakdown of this Rent-A-Racer!
This 1966 Shelby is registered with SAAC Shelby American Automobile Club and is 1230 of 2,378 Shelby’s produced in 1966!
In 1966, Carroll Shelby and Hertz created automotive history with their "Rent-A-Racer" program, launching the legendary Shelby GT350-H. This innovative partnership put high-performance Shelby Mustangs in the hands of everyday rental customers, allowing them to rent these machines for just $17 a day.
The GT350-H wasn't just a regular Mustang with racing stripes. Each car was equipped with Shelby's high-performance 289 V8 engine producing 306 horsepower, a four-speed manual or automatic transmission, special Shelby suspension components, and distinctive hood pins. Many of these rental racers found their way to weekend SCCA events, where renters would race them and return them on Monday - earning these cars the nickname "weekend warriors."
Today, surviving GT350-H models are among the most sought-after Shelbys, representing a unique chapter in American automotive history when you could truly rent American muscle car greatness.
The Shelby Rent-a-Racer came in Raven Black, Candy Apple Red, Ivy Green, Sapphire Blue and this one is featured in Wimbledon White!

I think that all the Hertz "Ford Mustang Shelby GT350H" rental cars were automatic transmissions?
I just learned, right here, that they came in other colors than Black and Gold. White and gold and Red and Gold. Wow.
The Hi-Po 289ci V8s in the Ford Mustangs, Falcons and Fairlanes were 271hp 289ci.
Great car and wonderful video. A piece of automotive history. She knows her stuff.

Hi JC Mike here. Great car great presentation. I'm still partial to my 70 Ford Torino GT convertible. Question. Why the 350 designation since the engine is 289 CID hypo. Take care Mike

All kinds of speculations on the 350 and the later 500's. Rumor is that is how far it was to the modification shop to convert it to a Shelby but who knows.

I have a 1966 GT350 repaint to Hertz but is mostly original real K-code/GT with less than 37K original miles. It would be nice to downsize to a more driveable /not museum piece and some cash.
