numerocro my grandfather was really young then...my father told me he was captured by the ustashe (croatian fascist) and taken to the fortress...there was a death camp...serbian inhabitants of knin were murdered...he had to clean the grass...it was all red...he had to put the blood in buckets with his own hands...

alphaenemy The inhabitans are now where they wanted to be in a first place. In Serbia. That was their wish and we fulfill your wish. So, in my opinion, you should be happy.

+alphaenemy Since you ask, I will tell In short, Knins inhabitants where Croats from the very beginning, be it Jadri, Liburni, Illary. or today's Croats from 700AD (see history books and Vatican Archives). Knin was know as the town of Cro Kings before anyone heard of Smrds. The Croats being loyal Catholics and good Christians accepted refugees from Southeast region predominantly, Serbs, some Vlachs and some others, they gave them refuge and salvation from Ottoman onslaught. As a gratitude these refugees for century later collaborated with the enemies of Croatia, until in 1991 they declared this as "Republic of Krajina" with Knin being the capital, then they proceeded with ethnic cleansing, raping, slaughtering Škabrnja and other unarmed other places of this province, bombing Zadar, blowing Maslenica Bridge etc. Mass killing of its original inhabitants in order to create Greater Serbia at the expense of the host and other neighbours in this region of FROY!!

1bodulac what happened in the NDH during ww2 is far worse than RSK...if serbs should not live in croatia because of what happened in the 90's why did the croats in the ustasha dominated areas remain living in SFRJ?
      Communists saved croatians ass.

Ovaj se poprilično muči sa tim svojim "Engleskim". Nije da mu baš ide tečno. Savjetujem mu da zimu posveti usavršavanju. I njemu i svima koji imaju ovakav problem. Jer ovo NIJE dovoljno. Turistički vodiči moraju "pjevati" jezik one grupe koju vode....ovako muče i sebe i njih.

This city of Knin was ethnically cleansed of its Serbian community in 1995. The Serbs, I believe, made up like 95% of the Knin's and surrounding regions population for 300 years. Sad to see that this could happen in modern times.

What were these Serbs frightened of? I suspect it was their fear of a resurgent Ustasha ideology that sees to have come to pass in modern Croatia today. All very tragic indeed. Yes, in hindsight, they should have accepted terms from the Croat government. But there was so much mistrust on both sides, that never happened.

All they wanted was greater Serbia, fear of Ustashas was just an excuse for occupying croatian territory which should become part of Serbia. And by the way, founder of modern Croatia, Franjo Tuđman was Partisan during WW2 who fought against Ustasha. So yeah, serbian fear makes lot of sence. Also, Ustashe were not elected by Croatian people, they were installed by Hitler and Mussolini without asking Croatian people what they think about it, and most Croats were not Ustasha suporters. So, it is absurd to blame whole Croatian people for crimes of one regime decades later and take that as a reason for armed rebelion as Serbs did in 90s. Fear of Ustashe was just an excuse for atack on Croatia, nothing more

There was never 95% of Serbs in Croatian Royal Town Knin!
They came as refugees in Croatia, they went out as refugees!
You didn't respected country and its domestic inhabitants who took you as refugees into Croatia when Turks invaded Europe!
How come Croats who as refugee find refuge in Slovakia,Hungary,Czech,Austria,Slovenia and Italy never waged war on domestic inhabitants who accepted them and gave them shelter when Turks burned their homes and stole everything they had and they had to flee into other countries!
      *God bless Croatia!*

Funny you say that. My Mexican friend asked me an interesting question recently. He said, "What do you think would happen if the millions of Canadian immigrants that have flowed into the USA since the 1700s, or millions of Mexican immigrants tried to declare an independent state inside the United States. What do you think would happen, Richard?
