- Macy's flagship store in Herald Square, New York City is one of the last stores in the world that still has wooden escalators. They are slowly being taken out of service or refurbished with parts from other stores. I ride every single one still in operation as of October 2023 and I'm bringing you along!

Thank You!! I have been in love with the wooden escalators since I first discovered them many years ago - and I would get annoyed when you were on them and they turned into the metal ones.......They have character , they just feel special!!! Hope Macy's keeps them!!
I hope so too. From what I’ve read, they’re doing everything to keep them, but they had to substitute and retrofit a few with metal pieces underneath. You can see that in a few of my shots.
i can’t wait to check this out for myself!!
Excellent! You have to go up a few floors to find them on the main sales area.
@@JerseyJoe50 i’m going to take my dad next weekend after we go to see shen yun. i’ve never heard of this, thanks for the info about the floor numbers and the meanings of the numbers, love the video!
@@taylortelevision Thank you! Hope you enjoy!!!
These are Otis wooden escalators from the 1920s
I hope they’re around for another century!
Diesnt Harrods in London have wooden esculators too?
@@davidbeach5563 not sure. I’ve never gone inside when I’ve visited London
