I've been watching these buyers guides for years, as well as all the other videos. Matt's breaking the budget. And going a little more is a well honored tradition.
To me, as someone who never brings more than 3 rods along, this is the start of the most interesting segment. Rods get really nice without becoming technique specific and your basic SLXs become DCs, MGLs, and Curados. This is also where almost unused gear sold at half price becomes routine.
Matt, long winded and a little over budget(sometimes ;). Wouldn’t want it any other way 😂. Honestly can’t say enough about how much I enjoy listening and watching you talk all things fishing and gear! You guys really are the best! Grateful for all your time and dedication, truly.
You guys truly go above and beyond. The education and insight go beyond technique and presentation. I really like the comparison between price point. For a lot of us money IS an issue and you take right to the best bang for the buck we can afford, and save us the cost of trying new things that won’t hold up in time. Thx for what you do.
Keep up the good work guys this is my favorite time of year, you guys fish alot of stripers . You guys should do a freshwater striper video. Rods reels baits line hooks. I've watched all of your swimbait videos. Would be cool to watch a striper video keep it up cant wait for the 500$ video
Love watching all your videos! I would love to see your take on the Curado BFS paired with the Cashion Element 6'10" Med-Lite Fast! This combo has been blowing my mind for about 4 months now, and it fits the $300 price point fairly well! I will not be found in my boat without it! Keep up the good work fellas!
All my combos are a mix of the stuff from the $200 combos and $300 combos. There’s so much good stuff for the money. The exception is my expride 6’10 medium with a Curado 70mgl
Great video...I was under the impression that the Ultegra was in the power line based of what y'all have said in the past comparing it to the twin power EDIT: Did some research, the ultegra is in their core solid line, so their power line. Regardless, it's an awesome reel, I've had zero issues out of mine, even fishing saltwater. Either way, it's an excellent reel, it has no problem catching stripers and the occasional musky.
Love the video, hate that none of the rods shown, are on the black November sale... On this list for example the only spinning rod part of it is the Halo rod...
Matthew, we all love u to death, ur in-depth swimbait seminars/breakdowns alone are sooo many years worth of knowledge in a 3hr video that I've watched & been back to dozens of times! same w/ ur jerkbait & countless other indepth videos.. But Jesus Mary & Joseph, ur ADHD tangents on everything from rods to something as small as a hook... when Tim is right by you & keeps his parts all under 100 words.. cracks me up lol but the way he looks at you is hilarious 😂.. like "ur doing it again matt, we have 15 rods and we'll be here til TW's black Friday sale is over" lol but Ive sadly got used to listening 20-30 secs then tapping the screen & jumping 20-30 secs ahead lol
I'm curious. Have the 2 of you tried any of the Kistler rods and reels? I have several of them, and I like them a lot. They range in price from $50 (at times) all the way up to $450, this is not including their fly fishing rods and reels. I would love for you to do a review on the rods, especially. I absolutely love them and would love your feedback on them.
If you had to pick 1 Dobyns bfs rod to do everything well what would it be? I want to start with 1 good bfs rod. I'm still on the fence about what reel
Penn isn't freshwater buddy.. and they aren't dealers for anything.. just bass junkies who have the best job in the world and able to try out or buy a ton of rods reels and tackle.. then give us their honest opinion.. they don't sell anything but free knowledge... My fam owns an offshore charter company in st Pete beach Florida & I've ran charters since I was 23, but now i moved home few yeads back in the midwest & bass fish then charter in winter. But We use Penn 3500-5500's near shore like the slammers bcuz their cheap & when customers destroy em their only 200$-ish to replace & then use Penn Int'l 30-50 wides, Okuma Maikaira 30's-80's or Fin-Nor 30's etc for snapper/grouper/wreck fishing or tunas all the way to swords or chasing monsters.. but never Penn for bass
Hey Matt and Tim I’m sure you guys get questions a million times a day but I was wondering if you guys could tell me a good baitcasting combo for throwing like soft plastics and I sometimes throw spinner baits and other spinners and I throw some finesse but I live in Michigan and the bass really like soft plastics and like the small mouth like ned rigs here so I have a budget of up to 400-450 and I watch your buyers guide but I still need help and I’m willing to learn more because I was thinking about the expride or zodias and a curado but I don’t know what’s the main difference between and medium and MH or ML, I’m a big shimano guy because I haven’t tried other brands. Can you help?
I went to look for the Levante flat side special, but it does not appear tackle warehouse list these rods in anyway, but size and power. What would I look for?
do you guys think the taper of the dobyns sierra 7' extra fast rod is too stiff for small treble hooked baits, like small jerkbaits, micro cranks, karashis, etc? or should i go with the 6'9" fast for those size hooks? ive found a great micro jig/micro texas rig rod, but finding a bfs rod for treble hooked baits has been tough.
When they talk about junk reels, I'm betting they're eluding to Lews. I bought too many of those early on, only to be disappointed down the road. Huge issues with the drag slipping over time on reels in that $200 range. It's Shimano & Diawa or nothing for me nowadays.
Help me understand how you are saying that all rods are on sale even if not advertised. I bought a Shimano X Pride LAST NIGHT and it WAS NOT discounted at all. What am I missing?
That sounds like you put it in your cart but didn't actually buy it. If you completed your purchase, you would have seen the discount on your final receipt.
300 dollars might be the hardest to justify. 200 you find a great starter rod or technique specific rod an experienced angler might want to try out. But at 300 maybe you're getting a pretty good jump up in rod. But at 450ish you're talking about something you don't need to replace unless it breaks or you want to take a deep drive on a specific technique.
If there is enough $400 dollar combos, why not just do a combination video of $300 and $400 dollar combos with just a longer video so we get all the good $400 dollar combo recommendations, and you could do that with all the price point to cut down on the amount of videos you have to put out although they might be longer you won’t have to cheat because you can include the in between priced combos also, I know it makes it harder to include tons of options in the description but just an idea⁉️
Matt, keep up the long winded explanations. Majority of us enjoy them thoroughly.
I concur! Love it!
I equally love when Tim picks at him about it.
I can't believe all of the abu Garcia reels this year. Usually you only heard them mention the blackmax and that was it.
This
Yes. The longer explanations are good!

Thanks for taking the time to do this for us! Always helping me upgrade my gear and learn about equipment.
300 is the new 200, this is where I hang out. BFS has recently bumped a few combos up to 400. Great video!
I thought that to until I got my hands on an expride it’s truly unbelievable.
I’ve been using the Fenwicks for over 10 years. glad to see TB approve.
Seriously. I love Fenwicks.
Absolutely love that Dobyns Sierra Series BFS rod!!!
Agreed, I went cheap(er) on the reel but the rod is more than good enough to make the whole combo work well.
I get a laugh from Tim’s reactions every time Matt flexes a rod.. keep it up fellas..

I have the Finnwick HMG and the Tula CT love the combo!

My Daiwa Procyon MQ is one of my best casting and performing reels for the money🙌
It's a great option!
All my combos are a mix of the stuff from the $200 combos and $300 combos. There’s so much good stuff for the money. The exception is my expride 6’10 medium with a Curado 70mgl
EVA foam handles on $300 plus combos is un-exceptable . Let’s make cork great again on higher end rods, please and thank you!!
Or carbon fiber even…
great series so far guys fun to watch
Thanks!
Just ordered the Cashion icon 6'10" ML. Can't wait to get my Steez ct sv on it.
Zodias rods are sooooo underrated. Soooo good.
100%! Amazing rods for the money!!
Great video...I was under the impression that the Ultegra was in the power line based of what y'all have said in the past comparing it to the twin power

Keep em coming. Have you guys tried the new Sedona? Man it’s really nice at $80
Love these series
Love the long winded
Awesome video do you guys ever try the raid gladiator anti rods?
Have you ever done a buyers guide for 2 piece or travel rods?
Lets Goooo!!!!
Heck yea !!
Ditch the 100$ or 300$ 😂
The 400$ is my favorite.
shimano scorpion md300 it has the system infinity braking with 8 pins are you going to review one
one of these years im going to have a budget where i can actually participate in this sell
You guys help keep me broke. LoL
Same old Matt. Now this one a little more BUT lmbo.
Love the video, hate that none of the rods shown, are on the black November sale... On this list for example the only spinning rod part of it is the Halo rod...
Most of the rods on tackle warehouse are on sale they just cant advertise that they are on sale so after you buy it on the receipt it’s discounted
I didn't see the discount applied with rods in the cart, either.
You just need to go a bit further in the checkout process. After the 2nd step in the checkout phase you will see the correct, discounted price.
Ahhh, yes, you guys are getting closer to my range 🔥 of rods insane combos ordering a few !

Is the dobbins 7 foot light extra fast any good?
What applications do you guys use a 200 size reel for, as opposed to the seemingly popular 150?
Looking at a Shimano Zodius and Diawa Tatula Cork one. $199 vs $159. Spinning rod finesse probably medium. Hard time deciding. Recommendations? Thanks
Whats the best bait finesse casting rod for finesse underspin
This video is A+++++++
this buyers guide series is awesome. why do you guys never talk about penn? is it a crap brand? or you just arent dealers for penn? just curios.
Penn isn't freshwater buddy.. and they aren't dealers for anything.. just bass junkies who have the best job in the world and able to try out or buy a ton of rods reels and tackle.. then give us their honest opinion.. they don't sell anything but free knowledge...

Where are the dobyns rods? (No fury rods in the 200 dollar guide?)
They are sensitivity junkies, and Gary isn't.
The only megabass rod I see on sale at TW is 16% off orochi. I added levante to cart to see and it’s full price.
The discounts for Megabass rods are only applied once you actually purchase the product, it shows up on the receipt
First are you logged in? Then go to the last step before complete purchase.
I went to look for the Levante flat side special, but it does not appear tackle warehouse list these rods in anyway, but size and power. What would I look for?
Unfortunately the Zodias is not on sale at TW 😒
It's not advertised, but it is on sale. If you complete the purchase you get the discount.
Cheap rod expensive reel is the way I go .
Not always but often
So even though TW site says companies like shimano, daiwa, and megabass aren’t part of the sale, they actually are on sale but just not advertised?
Yes, that's how these sales have been for years.
do you guys think the taper of the dobyns sierra 7' extra fast rod is too stiff for small treble hooked baits, like small jerkbaits, micro cranks, karashis, etc? or should i go with the 6'9" fast for those size hooks? ive found a great micro jig/micro texas rig rod, but finding a bfs rod for treble hooked baits has been tough.
Which super thin Seaguar line do you have on that Stradic?
That's the PEX8
Didn’t realize how broke I was till I watched this lmao
So what you’re saying is for example if I add a Shimano rod to my cart it does not say its on sale but i will get 20% off at check out?
It worked for me 👍🏼 I saw it on my receipt at the end of the transaction.
Yep doesn't usually show up until the end
Try it.
Thanks fellas!

It's always been that way, just more other brands out there.
Would the thin tip of the KSII Elite spinning rods make them a good option for strolling?
*specifically the 6' 10" m/f
Absolutely! Even more than that, I found out in a conversation the other day that the thin tip I kept saying I couldn't break is actually a solid tip!
Oh that's sneaky... Good job Halo!
capping at around $175 for the rod, which of these do you like best for Gunfish 117, Shower Blows 105, and World Minnows?
Because you added world minnow, it has to be the Expride 6'10" Medium mod fast
@@tacticalbassin I was afraid you were going to say that. What if I took out the world minnow?
@michaeldahl6782 sorry... I missed the price cap. Same answer, but Curado. Without the world minnow, the 7'2" Medium Light is a pretty amazing rod.
@@tacticalbassin no problem, and thanks for the recommendation. I really wish Shimano would bring the 6'10" medium mod to the lower price points.
Hey Tim, tell us for real, how much Red Bull does Matt drink?
😂 None needed... but he drinks tea by the gallon.
Help me understand how you are saying that all rods are on sale even if not advertised. I bought a Shimano X Pride LAST NIGHT and it WAS NOT discounted at all. What am I missing?

If I’m spending $300 a $190 of it will be on an FX Custom rod.
