I grew up in Lompoc in the 70s and 80s. It was a wonderful place to live. Santa Barbara County turned it into a dump so SB and Montecito wouldn't have to see bums and hobos walking their own streets.
Did I say that?@LilAngelBigWorld. No. There aren't bums walking around SB and Montecito because the powerful people that run the county threw all the Section 8 housing money an priority to Lompoc and Santa Maria in the 90s-2000s. To avoid problems where the money lives.
Here is a few reasons out of MANY reasons why they dont go to a shelter. 1. The primary barrier to seeking shelter is the inability to bring personal belongings. 2. Individuals with mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia, risk eviction due to the discomfort it may cause others. 3. Proximity requirements force individuals to sleep within a three-foot radius of each other. 4. Shelter stays are limited to three months annually. 5. Residents must adhere to strict schedules, including sleep, meals, wake-up times, and medication management. 6. Possessions, like charging phones, are susceptible to theft. 7. Frequent turnover among staff leads to constantly changing rules.
