    I'm mentally disabled and I have wonderful fiancé who doesn't care that I'm disabled and he thinks that I'm a normal person who just has hard time learning but he's very supportive and he loves me unconditionally and we are high school sweethearts and we've been together for 10 years.

    This was just absolutely very touching to me. I’m intellectually disabled and mildly physically disabled. My physical disabilities are on the inside so people can’t really tell that my lungs are diagnosed with emphysema unless I tell them. Or unless they see me taking my lung inhalations. Or having to tell them about my acid reflux issues etc. But if I never say anything, then nobody would even know. But thank you so much for this inspiration. This will help a lot of people understand what it’s like to be disabled. That’s every day of my life. I hope people will grasp the reality of how yes people with special needs may need help once in a while, but there are some that can be pretty independent. But most importantly, how ALL special needs people need to be loved just like anyone else who aren’t disabled and will teach them not to down size them or taunt and humiliate people with special needs, because we have feelings too.

    I'd never thought about it as I don't see many disabled people in general. But I started doing temporary job at a big office. This one office had a receptionist that was gorgeous . I worked upstairs so I'd just see her when I came in and I'd say hi, and I'd leave earlier and I'd say bye when I left. I worked later one day and they were all going home and I saw her wheel herself from her desk. A piece of metal and some wheels didn't make her less gorgeous to me. Tbh I ended up even more into her when I found out more about her, she was real gutsy ,drove a car etc,did a lot more stuff than most people do. But she was in a relationship which was why I never made a move. If she wasn't I'd have defiantly asked her out. no doubt about it

    Its a disgrace for anyone to discriminate because someone is different or has any form of illness which cannot be avoided. Trust me, I have seen this first hand and observed just how sensitive some people are in reference to their disability.

      heavymechanic2 Omg thanks so much. This means so much too me. I’m special needs too and it would just devastate me if someone wouldn’t wanna date me just because I have a learning disability. I would just go off on them.

    India is not a disabled friendly country and the sadest part is even Indian families do not accept differently abled grooms or brides...but you can see differently abled persons are in leading positions in leading companies..

    Lakshmi Rebecca It is never the people with the disability who feel that the world is too big to reach out. As you have rightly said, it is the attitude of the abled humans that keep them out of reach. When some one with disability say that they want to get out of this country to be themselves, we need to ask ourselves a question. What good are we doing for them with our able life. Let me introduce Tifany Maria Brar who is blind herself but has not restricted her disability to achieve what she desires.

    It is so funny that you don't see the contradiction in your own question. But alas such is the world. Dating is a shallow take on a relationship and looking at a disabled person BESIDES the disability is a DEEP concept. You are asking if a person who is shallow, would want to do something deep about the same thing for which he/she is shallow about ! Well such is the world !

    This is exactly what makes you unique in making chat shows Ms. Awesome.
    Bold and beautiful are the only words which are coming to my ahead after watching this show.
    Well I would like to share a universal fact with you after watching this interview.
    Normally (Obviously) the sharp looks and physique of a person will only a gate pass to him to let others feel that, oh he is looking good and we might have a chat with him.
    But later it all depends upon his/her behavior and mindset of the person which decides to continue the conversation and simply we could greet a farewell to the person.
    Just like this it actually depends on both the abled and disabled's personality and mindset is the main key for others to decide whether they could become friends or maintain any other relation.
    All the best Ms. Awesome Keep up the good work :)

    I don't get it. Firstly, alot of people assumed that dating people with disabilities is like dating people with severe disabilities and there is as spectrum. Secondly, it funny how people are all that no or I don't think so when everyone grows old with vision problems or other issues. If you date people who are disabled at the end of the day, they might be better able to cope with getting old because while some are depressed about various loss of their body they had a whole life to learn and adapt. Which will make them happier in the long run 😏! Heck they might teach you a couple of trick!

    Hello, I'm a disability support worker from Australia. I really like your video and will definitely watch the movie you are discussing, but I was wondering why you didn't show the young woman with a disability actually speaking about her experiences? I mean, she has experienced disability first hand herself and we did not hear about her perspective.

    • @ChaiwithlakshmiIn
      @ChaiwithlakshmiIn  8 лет назад

      +Marina Nosenkova Because I wanted to showcase both perspectives and there was only so much time. And this wasn't about winning sympathy, it was about making people realise that the issues are bigger than inclusive infrastructure.

    Hi Lakshmi,
    Beautiful thought. Thanx
    I could so relate to deepa,like it was her mouth telling my story.
    I have neuromuscular scoliosis,I can walk but ya the life is a struggle and every day with new challenges. But then I have the Will to be independent, there were so many things I wanted to add when deep a was speaking.
    I would say one in hundred have to guts to accept a specially abled .its easy to say yes but hard to apply. No body could figure out by my pics I'm specially abled.get end number of frnd request on fb.but as soon they come to know me being specially abled the sentence from " I like you , i'm interested in you Nd bla bla changes to we can be frns Nd will remain in touch etc etc.
    So its actually a hypocritical society which can't accecpt this truth.
    But then we are fine with this,and I kinda njoy my company a lot.I actually like being alone.cuz I have overcome this need of being loved Nd all.
    Whatever I said might sound rude but the fact is its true.
    Cheers

    • @rogcmin
      @rogcmin 9 лет назад +1

      I agree with you, Christopher. As one who has CP, I would liked to have seen someone with a disability play that role. As the actress herself pointed out, there are different degrees of cerebral palsy, certainly someone with said disability could have played the part. It stills baffles me to see that directors and producers, for the main, continue to use the "able-bodied" to play someone with a disability. When that type of decision is made, the stereotype of disability meaning inability is perpetuated. It is somewhat hypocritical, if you ask me.

I would only date someone I might marry, and I would only marry someone I would consider to be a good mother to my children, physically and mentally. If the disability were not hereditary, and she could still care for our potential children, I might consider it.

    Growing up, the boys told me the only way I'd ever have sex with anyone was if I humped a corpse. I've had fantasies my whole life. Angels, vampires, Putin (who pissed me off), Indra. I don't want to have disabled children idiocy/mental illness runs in my family on one side especially. I don't think I have the right to do that to another person. I value my freedom now. Other invalids are attracted to me. No. I stay to myself. It's easier.

    Medicaid rules are set up to make marriage and having necessary healthcare benefits incompatible. Many disabled people are forced to hide their relationships in order to keep the benefits they need.
    The struggle to survive in the current system takes a financial and psychological toll on disabled people’s ability to get married and live a healthy stable peaceful life with the one they love. It’s difficult not to internalize the fact that society views anyone with a disability of any kind unfit to be marriage material, a burden and therefore penalizes them if they DARE being married.
    We need to end income requirements for disabled people who cannot live without Medicaid or SSDI/SSI, it is the only thing here in the U.S by both government parties that is standing in the way of a lot of U.S citizens getting married. The other option is universal healthcare, or leaving to another country all together. As long as disabled people are at risk of losing benefits, full marriage equality does not exist in the United States. The fight for marriage equality for disabled people is not over yet.

    For me it depends on what disability they have. If they were in a accident or something like that and they just need a wheelchair to get them around then yes. But if it's anything else Like 4:18 where they have problems with speaking then no. If that makes me a bad person then so be it but its more a mental thing for me when it comes down to people with similar disabilities like the beautiful person at 4:18 but like people that have broken their neck or back and there for only need a wheelchair i don't really see a problem with it at all because you can still have a fun exiting life.
